Well....Tony Daniel is a hack then. Destroying all that was cool about the resurrected Jason by making him "irredeemable", having Oracle eject little girls into Killer Croc's mouth, suddenly having Dick be the grimdark one and Tim be the light one despite all contrary in previous books, making any female presence really minor and under the heel of a male one, making Penguin suddenly a crime boss again, what else is there? My annoyance with this scene stems from how much leeway Bruce is giving Jason vs. how he kept saying the Huntress is too violent and grimdark to be in the Justice League or part of the Bat-family. As Bruce didn't know about Jason crawling out of his own grave and being affected by Lazarus Pit Crazy Juice from BATMAN ANNUAL #25, Dick and Co. are a little out of their depth. As we don't seem to still have the INFINITE CRISIS "Batarang in neck" scene, maybe Jason's whole "I'm furious because Batman didn't kill the Joker" motive doesn't enter the equation. Some of Jason's "painful secret" might refer back that fight/discussion between Jason and Mia in GREEN ARROW #72. Jason told Mia "You and I are from the streets, for reals, dawg." And Mia was a teenaged prostitute. (Reply to this) (Thread)

You know, I was kinda predicting that something like this would happen. You don't just introduce a subplot like 'personalized holographic recordings from beyond the grave' and then not use it - it's just too juicy. (The question is, was it introduced specifically to set up the 'Jason goes whackers' storyline, or did the writer simply go 'oooh, THERE'S a good way to explain it!') And did anyone else think it was somewhat uncouth of Dick to dig out the recording like that? (I was going to say 'dickish', but that brings up some logical problems.) I mean, those things are PRIVATE, man. Sure, they needed to find out a way to stop him, but since when has the 'bring out the thing that turned a guy crazy and say 'this is what turned you crazy'' plot device ever actually STOPPED said guy from being crazy? 'You know, Artichoke Man, I'll bet you dollars to doughnuts that it was this rotten artichoke heart (which I happen to have a facsimile copy of right here) that drove you insane all those years ago.'
