Right, so, good. Glad to see that everyone's having such a good time this week. Yay sex, amirite?

But I was kind of hoping also we could have a serious conversation as a community. Because we are a community, right? We're not just a bunch of people gathering here to go our own ways, we're in this together and we need to work together to get things done. At least, that was what I thought when I agreed to come here.

So. Ruby said something about it last week, and I'm going to bring it up again this week. We have several projects ongoing, right? What's left with the medical center? If I'm right we have our first babies arriving in about two weeks and we need to be ready for that.

Also, someone was working on a sewer system, right? Were they sent home? Not glamorous work but I'm definitely willing to help with that.

What else? What else do we need done? What do we need to make this island the kind of place we all want to live?

The medical center is as done as it can be until we (a) finish the sewage system, (b) receive plumbing fixtures from the gods or figure out how to make our own, and (c) receive lighting fixtures from the gods or figure out how to make our own.

I believe that we've run out of diesel for the bobcat, so we are without a way to dig other than by hand with the two shovels we have unless the gods send us more fuel. Tony Stark was overseeing the sewage and plumbing project, but he's gone and no one has stepped up with the knowledge or skills to take that over so we may be at a standstill there for the time being.

Sara Lance has been overseeing the construction of the community center. The intention is for that to house all of our community supplies which are temporarily being stored in the medical center. We have also discussed building a community kitchen and some temporary shelter in that building. I suppose that in addition to completing the actual building, someone could begin building tables and chairs for inside to create a communal dining area.

It seems that being here is going to mean that we're going to have to expand our skills or learn new ones. I don't have any of the skills required, but I can learn. Things might not be perfect at first, but that's no reason to simply give up. We can dig with shovels if we have to. It'll take a long time, but it's better than sitting around doing nothing.

I can also try to figure out how to build tables and chairs. It can't be that hard, can it? I mean, maybe they won't look lovely, but if they hold people and plates then they'll work.

I think that we need to stop remembering the things we had back home and try to make the best of the things we have here. This isn't an advanced civilization and we can't expect things to be the same quality as we have back home.

How exactly do you plan to learn skills that no one here is capable of teaching? Our resources are limited and it would be wasteful and foolish to risk ruining them by trying to make things work.

There are likely people here who do have the skills to build furniture. It would be more helpful if they stepped up to actually do so - or teach others to do so - than to have people, again, wasting resources on things that aren't going to work.

The gods have been very generous with us thus far and we need to make sure we are not taking that for granted.

So, I think most people know by now that I've taken some time off the from the community building projects to build a house for me and Chloe. I hope people don't think this is too selfish. I'll admit it is a little selfish, but I'm doing it for our baby.

I agree that we should be working together to build a community. I helped with the medical center, and I hope to help more with other things in the future. I like the idea of the community center and I think Sara (and others who are helping her) are doing a great job with that.

I do know how make tables and chairs, and other basic carpentry, so if anyone wants to learn that I could help them. I can't take the time out right now to make them all myself, but I DO want to help if it's needed.

The septic system is a bit beyond me. I know you dig a big hole, but that's about it.

Well, yeah, from a community perspective it kind of is, since Malia's babies are coming first. In like, two weeks? But as long as you know that.

I just think we need to start being a community again. Working together. It's not fair that some people are going to have everything while other people have nothing.

Malia's not keeping her babies, though. And the medical center is as done as we can make it (which I worked as hard as anyone on building, but you wouldn't know that since you weren't here). So what else could I be doing for her and her babies?

I do still fish for everyone a couple times a week too.

What makes you think some people are going to have everything? I assume eventually we'll build houses for everyone if that's what people want.

So, Mr. High and Mighty, what do you think I should be working on right now, given I don't know how to build a septic system, and I do know how to (sort of) build a house?

What exactly are you going to be doing to help the community? You told me you can teleport - can you use that to transport things that are heavy or awkward from place to place? Can you do it with large quantities of water? I'm not sure if I understand what plumbing we have available? Weren't we still hauling water here?

It seems like you could use your powers for good here since you don't have any other practical skills.

I haven't seen you offering to do anything but waste our resources while you 'learn' easy things like sewing diapers which is actually not an easy task at all. If you don't cut them correctly and hem them well they will leak worse than they will already. We don't have any rubber pants which we'd need so we'll have to make padding but we don't have enough cloth to do that well either. Hopefully we can start weaving some with the sheep and Ruby's spinning wheel but I don't know how to weave fabric myself.

I talked to Sara before and I'll be helping with the community center. I already work with the animals on Wednesdays. I can make basic tables and chairs, and other carpentry projects like framing and the like. I've worked construction before so I can do things related to getting a building up but not the wiring or plumbing of it.

I don't know anything about septic systems though.

Also, Ruby let me know there is communal fabric and a machine. I can sew basic clothing and mend torn clothing so I can help with that on the side if Briseis and Ruby get overwhelmed or you want me to mend something for you at night while I'm on watch.

I would be interested in learning how to sew. I want to make sure we have blankets and linens for the babies when they start coming. Plus it's just something I want to learn.

I know how to knit..I don't know if we have anything that we need to do that but if we do, I'm happy to teach people.

I can definitely teach you how to hand sew and probably machine sew. It depends, I haven't checked out the machine here yet. I've been a bit busy this week...

I definitely can make things for babies though, I helped my mom do stuff for my little sisters. The old kind which is what we'll need here that are more what you'd call a dress that you use with cloth diapers that is easier. I can make diapers too but not sure if we have the right kind of cloth for it.

I'm Bucky, by the way. I don't think we've met?

Would you be willing to teach other people your construction and wood working skills? I get the feeling that we can't have enough of that around here.

I'm willing to teach people but I don't know if I'm the best teacher we have. I'd feel better teaching sewing than wood working skills. I've got experience teaching that verses the carpentry stuff I mostly know from watching and working a long time ago on jobs.

Steve and I made log benches and built a table for our shelter so we could show someone how to do those things. They are very basic though and others might can do better.

Yes well, I wasn't looking for your approval or permission. You could work on being a bit less judgmental. Your attitude is not how you make friends or influence people. It's also not how to be a leader, which you most certainly aren't.

As I told Bucky above, I don't know how to sew but I'd like to learn. We're going to need linens, blankets and things for the Medical Center when the babies are born. Also has anyone considered diapers? We can certainly make cloth ones and it would just be a matter of cutting them to the right size.

I'm afraid I know nothing about sewage or water systems but I can dig if something needs to be dug.

It's going to have to be cloth diapers. It can't be that difficult to come up with, can it? I mean, they'll have to be washed frequently, but it is what it is.

Oh definitely. I'd be willing to organize people to wash diapers. When we start having more babies, it's going to take all of us to keep them clean.

We'd need safety pins for the diapers ideally. It's a little more than cutting, you have to hem them and how you cut the shape matters and the size of them. We'll probably want some type of wrap type thing for people to carry their babies in. I've never made that but maybe some of the women have? We didn't really do that in my time. We had the babies in the dresser drawers taken out and put on the floor with blankets and padding in them. Then they slept with their siblings or the parents when they got too big for the drawer.

I'm from the future so I wouldn't know how to make a cloth diaper but if someone showed me, I could do it. We can figure it out. I know what you're talking about with the slings, there might be some women here who've seen them enough to be able to figure out a basic pattern. We didn't have those in my time either, what we had was a little more like a backpack and wasn't cloth at all.

As the father of one of the babies, yes, believe it or not, I have given this a little thought. We used cloth diapers in Four, so I was assuming we would do so here as well.

I can sew a little. Not great, but I can mend a sail so I could probably manage a diaper. Chloe and I can manage the washing too. Since people are suddenly questioning our life choices and calling me selfish, I'll be damned if I let anyone help with that.

Also, I was planning to make a large basket that could be used as both a cradle and a carrying basket for the baby.

I didn't mean to imply that you hadn't. I'm sorry, it's just the nurse in me doing inventory of what we need. I personally have never made a diaper but if someone shows me, I can do it. I can't mend a sail so you've got one on me!

There's no reason why you should have to do all the washing. Everyone should work together to take care of the little ones that are with us. At least I think so. I love the idea of a basket! That would be fantastic.

[FInnick]
I'm sorry if I upset you. It wasn't my intention. My saying that I was asking about who was keeping their babies was simply so I'd know how to prepare for things in the clinic. I not only want to make sure the babies get here safely but that they stay safe once they're here unless they're with Arva.

I'm good for heavy lifting, and can do a fair amount of construction or carpentry so long as you don't want anything fancy. I can sew, but not as good as Bucky and probably not with a modern style machine without being shown how.

I can design things, although I'm no architect. And I might be able to do some cartography in a pinch.

Like most everyone else, I know nothing about water or electric works.

I think that this place is a lot more community based than what you seem to think. Sometimes, though, the big picture isn't all that's necessary. People need to do their own things, socialize, and look out for themselves too. If they don't have time for that, and only work tirelessly toward one common goal, that simply won't be the goal anymore. A community is full of individuals.

I can help with building and lifting, whatever is needed. I also know a little bit about setting up a water system. I spent summers working on a moisture farm which probably sounds weird but that's what it was. I might be able to figure out how to rig up a sewage system or at least a way to get fresh water here.

I'm also pretty good a mechanics if anything breaks down.

You weren't here when things first got started. We had absolutely nothing. The fact that we are where we are right now is almost a miracle. It took a lot of effort by what few people we had.

That said, yes. We have projects that need to be finished. We had almost over half our population disappear in one night. We've been scrambling ever since to figure out which way was up. Then people started arriving again and getting them settled, welcomed and set up was the priority. Meanwhile, we're STILL trying to get our butts organized.

We don't have a leader. I doubt we ever will have a leader. Everyone is welcome to bring ideas to the table. Anyone could think of something the rest of us hasn't and it might save a life. The fact is we don't have the know how or the resources, but I agree. Projects can't be left half finished just because the people who knew what they were doing went home.

As for the babies, Malia is giving hers to Arva. No worries there. We have almost a full three months until Bri and I have ours. That is plenty of time to plan. Finnick is doing everything he can by me, as are other people when they can. And we'll all help Scott and Bri too.

We're having more and more people show up almost every day. I like to think of that as a good sign that we're doing something right! Stay positive. Keep hold of hope and we'll do this. It just takes a little bit of patience.
