The hall was large, a space that seemed to stretch on forever. It existed in a dimension outside of time, separate from any others, a neutral ground for the various powers to meet. The first to arrive were the Powers That Be, the benevolent strengths watching over this version of Earth. Two shapes of light appeared, growing in size and brightness until they were distinguishable as figures, one male, one female, their skin a shimmering gold with pale blue streaks. In life they had been known as the Oracles, in death they had returned to become part of the Powers.
On the opposite side of the hall a column of smoke appeared, twisting and turning until it became a man, large and imposing and in a very nice suit. Once he had been known as Marcus Hamilton, Childe of the Senior Partners. Upon his death at the hands of the former Champion he had become part of the Wolf, the Ram and the Hart once more and now he stood there, part Marcus and part them. He looked at the Powers, his gaze looking them up and down before he scowled.
"How come you get to appear as two and we only appear as one?"
The female Oracle rolled her eyes, smirking at her opposite. "You chose the form, as did we."
"If you wish to change," the male took over. "Be our guest."
Marcus rolled his eyes, irritated as he crossed the expanse to join them. "That's not the point." He straightened his tie as he stood next to the male, looking out at the cool gray hallway. "We do want it noted though that it was our Liaison that brought this incident to our attention. What were your people doing?"
The female arched an eyebrow as she looked past her brother to Marcus. "They were blinded by love."
"They were fools," the male was disapproving. "They will not fail their duties so again."
"Right," Marcus drawled, less than impressed. "Still, if it was left up to your lot, Lucifer would be doing a tap dance all over us by now."
"The past is done, nothing can be changed now," the soothing tones of the female irritated Marcus before she pressed on. "What matters now is we are all agreed." Her brother nodded, before he stared at Marcus.
It was tempting to disagree, tempting to just go against the plan because that was the Senior Partners' nature. But some things were more important than even eternal wars. And, almost reluctantly, he nodded as well.
The agreement reached and set in stone, there was another flash of light as the relevant parties were all brought out of the mortal plane and into the eternal realms.
The angel was the first to react, the angel who had so defiled his duty by falling in love with a demon. He stared up at the trio before moving to one side, his head lowered in respect. The brunette Slayer wasn't far behind, her eyes widening before she dropped to her knees before her creators, the ones who had Chosen her.
The female Oracle nodded with an approving smile before Marcus scowled again.
"How come we don't get bowing and worship?"
"You get ritual sacrifices," the male Oracle responded dryly before his sister raised a hand.
"Enough." She stepped down in front of the other two, looking at the lesser beings with no trace of a smile on her face any longer. "Now. We need to talk."
