'Cause I'm two kinds of right...
Characters: Cassie, OT Billy, Teddy, Tommy
Setting: The diner where she works, NYC
Content: Nothing bad
Summary: Cassie breaks the news to Billy that she plans to stay
Cassandra Eleanor Lang was now in possession of a social security card, a driver's license, and her own birth certificate all courtesy of Nick Fury who had obligingly brought her back from the dead. Literally; for all intents and purposes aside from a grave in the Trinity Church Cemetery, Cassie Lang now officially existed here. It was far more than she could have hoped for when she'd gone to S.H.I.E.L.D. a few days after the meeting and asked General Fury for a new identity- a permanent identity. He'd smiled and said, "Little lady, you don't have to be anyone else." Cassie decided that she liked this Nick Fury, even though he was kind of intimidating and even though she didn’t exactly trust him. She thought it strange that he would actually bring her back to life- obviously she must have some kind of family here- and she politely questioned the wisdom of the move. Wouldn’t it just be easier to create a new identity? But no, Fury assured her, this was easier and anyway Peggy and Blake were long out of New York. If anything actually came up with her family Nick promised to handle it himself. So Cassie put aside her reservations and agreed because she didn’t want to seem ungrateful and to be honest it actually made her feel like she really belonged here. It was like picking up the thread of a lost life, disappearing for a few years and returning home.
The new living arrangements were nothing to be upset about either. She was set up in a really nice hotel and she was pretty much left alone. It was like keeping her independence with an added element of security. She’d even gone on a shopping trip with Pepper Potts and had a brand new wardrobe courtesy of Tony. She did feel a little guilty about that so she tried to choose relatively inexpensive clothes and decided that she would pay Tony back now that she wasn’t working to keep a place to live. She was still working. It got boring alone in her hotel room pretty quickly so she hopped on a subway train and every day and went to the diner. It was nice to have her suite to come home to and it made work actually seem enjoyable. A way to pass the time.
After a few days Cassie began to feel a little guilty at the fact that she hadn’t seen the boys since the incident below Times Square so she went to the Scarlet Witch’s apartment on Saturday evening only to be told that her friends were staying somewhere else. She asked Wanda to deliver a message to them that gave the address of the diner where she worked and asked Billy and Teddy to meet her there at five the next day when her shift ended. It was now five-fifteen on Sunday and Cassie sat waiting in a booth sipping a soda and staring idly out the window at passerby. She definitely had some things she needed to talk over with Billy.
