Dumbstruck by Cassie's firm announcement, Teddy was left looking between her and Billy with his mouth hanging open and slowly lowering his fork back to his plate. This concept hadn't occurred to Teddy. He had assumed they would go back, and while 'they' had started out meaning just him and Billy, the more bloated the situation became, the more the meaning of 'they' stretched to accommodate. They were a team, as much as 'things weren't that great back home' as Billy put it, and the fact that they were all here together should have been proof enough of that. And a team stayed together. For Teddy, there wasn't much of anything else-- if they didn't all go back, say Kate and Eli thought they would be much better off in this dimension, too, then what did Teddy have? He had Billy, sure. He had Tommy, a little grudgingly, but also grudgingly appreciative. But what else? He had the cold aftermath of a war. He had no family. He had no real home. He had no one he trusted, and no one who really trusted him, except for this team.
Wherever they went, Teddy had no doubt that he would be with them. But it still had to be 'they'. "Billy's right," he finally said, shoulder bumping Billy's gently as he leaned closer. "We'd have to stay here to take care of you, Cass," he tried to joke, smiling apologetically for it, and adding, "And what if I need to rescue Billy again?"
