time to take you down a peg

Who: Christine and Michael
When: 9 PM
Where: Michael's office

Michael couldn't remember if she and Christine had ever seen eye to eye. She thought not. They had both started working at the hotel around the same time, and both at the front desk. And through the years Michael had earned praise and promotions, and Christine continued to seem downright allergic to personal evolution. Perhaps that was part of the problem. Christine had never seemed to respect her as a manager, and Michael just couldn't stand her for it. So, getting two complaints about Christine in one day was a little bit like Christmas. Definitely worth coming in early for.

At nine, the door to Michael's office was open and she was seated behind her desk, watching the last few traces of the sun disappear out the window. When it became dark enough, she hit a button to turn on the lights, but otherwise made no move. She wondered if Christine would be on time.

Who: Cora and Aiden
Where: Serenity Pool
When: Early Morning

Cora had a break before her shift, before the cleaning and her other services, so she'd decided to have a calm swim before she returned to work. The spa would be quiet. Not many guests used it in the early morning hours and she could swim without worrying about having to have the moment interrupted by a guest.

She dipped below the surface, red hair streaming around her as she lingered in one spot for a moment. There was a calm to being beneath the surface; thankfully, hydrotherapy had never been like this. No, this was something different, something special. She felt pure beneath the water. She'd had so many moments of calm like this before. Everything was slower. Relaxed.

Surfacing, she caught sight of a figure moving towards the water and she realized that her time might be up for the morning. She made her way to the ladder and began climbing out before she recognized the person.

Dr. Mallory. Her cheeks grew pink, from the exertion of swimming, she promised herself, and she reached for a towel, wrapping it around her torso quickly. She had been seen by countless guests, but for some reason, she felt bare in that moment. Exposed.

"Good morning, Doctor." She was quiet, offering him a brief and polite smile.

I'll be alone dancing you know it baby

Who: Nisha and OPEN
Where: The ballroom
When: Afternoon, while The Breakfast Club is on

Like most girls her generation (and of any generation, really) the thing Nisha liked the most about The Breakfast Club was Judd Nelson's rebellious bad-ass John Bender. All the rest of it she could take or leave, except for the dancing montage of course. Still, the Brat-Pack movie marathon was one of the better ideas the overeager activities manager had come up with, and Nisha thought she might as well encourage this sort of thing. It filled her with nostalgia, which she wasn't used to feeling, and Nisha felt herself sigh every once in a while trying to recount what she'd felt the first time she'd seen this movie, probably some time in the early 90s.

She had been feeling a little restless lately; hadn't played in weeks, hadn't really done drugs in weeks either, and this whole 'vacation' felt a bit like a daze - as if she was in some sort of dream reality she was going to wake up from eventually. It might be her mind's way of dealing with knowing she couldn't leave but not knowing exactly why or how, but in the back of her head there was a growing sense of something wrong, something amiss. Much like a dream in that respect too.

Today, as she sat in the darkness of the ballroom with popcorn and a cherry coke Nisha tried to forget, but this movie only reminded her of her own adolescence and she wasn't sure that was any better. At least John Bender was cool. Kind of dreamy, even, so it fit.
