Lord help me, I will never get used to that.

Who: Jai and open to staff
When: Noonish
Where: Security offices, basement level
Eventual language behind a cut.

Today was supposed to be Jai's day off, and he'd been enjoying it by sleeping in, until his phone started ringing an hour ago. Apparently they'd had a morning runner, and she'd broken a security guard's nose. Said security guard was now insisting he was in too much pain to finish the rest of his shift. Fantastic. Jai had dutifully risen to fill in, and he hadn't said a word of complaint. Oh, sure, he was thinking it rather loudly, but he knew the guy. He wasn't really a bad guy, and if it had been the other way around he probably would have done the same for Jai. Maybe.

Unfortunately, the guy was also the sort who would have forgotten his own head if it weren't attached. Jai headed to the infirmary to grab his walkie, and discovered the batteries were almost dead. Jai didn't complain here either, though he could have reminded him that these were supposed to be checked at the start of every shift. He just took it, wished him well, and headed back to the hotel to change them out.

He took the elevator down to the basement, not running into anyone as he headed into the empty security office. There was always the rumble of the washers and dryers in housekeeping, but Jai barely even noticed that anymore. He opened the storage locker at the end of the row, and pulled out the box of batteries. Empty. Frowning, he began rooting in the locker for another one. Nothing. "Well they've got to be somewhere, we need them," he thought aloud. Then he headed over to the small office fridge because, again, the guy he was relieving was kind of a flake and he'd found much stranger things in there in the past. He did find a book (...the hell?) and a half-eaten candy bar, but nothing else. Then he stood, turned, and found a softie standing not three feet in front of him. do not want do not want ever... )

[info]insideandout

on the first part of the journey.

Who: Cameron and Christine.
Where: Reception.
When: Very early morning.

He didn’t realise just how tired he was until he finished walking down the long drive. It had felt like miles, and in reality that was exactly what it had been, most likely, at least from the road. The car was still back there somewhere but Cameron couldn’t see it when he glanced back over his shoulder, he struggled to see the end of that winding drive with its carefully manicured shrubs and flowerbeds. Cameron realised his whole body felt heavy, his head was thick with an exhaustion that had crept up on him in the time it had taken to walk from his wounded and unresponsive car to these doors. It made sense really, he realised, it was a long way and he’d been awake for a while before his car had given out on him.

The hotel was a godsend, or at least that was what he would have thought if he believed in God, in miracles and signs and that sort of thing. Cameron had stopped believing in such things as a child. He’d stopped believing in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny at a young age too. Thinking about them now almost made him smile but it was short-lived and then he realised there was someone beyond those doors, someone behind a desk that was so very at home in a place like the one in front of which he stood and he really ought to move. Do something. And so he did, his bag held in one hand while his other reached out and pushed at the door to set foot inside the hotel that he hadn’t seen a single sign for along the road. Strange, or at least it would have seemed that way if he wasn’t so tired.

Drawing in a deep breath that was equal parts relief and exhaustion Cameron let the door closed behind him all the way before he took another step, and then another, and another until he reached the desk, trying and failing to muster a sincere smile when he got there. He had to settle for a false one but the woman on the other side of the desk was probably used to that by now. “Hi,” he said, hearing that relief and weariness in his voice. “I was wondering if I could get a room for the night?” And maybe borrow the phone in the morning so that he could call someone to come and take a look at his car, but that could wait until after he’d had some sleep.

I was raised up like a snake, You were raised to leave me bait

Who: Regan and Lina
When: Late morning
Where: Second floor, pearl wing hallway

When Lina woke up again she felt a little closer to normal, and she was told she could go back to her room. The security guard had offered to take her back to the main building in a golf cart, and for whatever reason Lina had gone into uncontrollable laughter at the idea. It appeared that, for the time being at least, her brain had decided it was just not going to deal with a single damn thing. She would go back to her room, take a shower, go to the bar and get wasted. Really, this seemed like the only wise course of action right now. Any time she tried to think about her current situation with anything closer to actual depth, she felt like throwing up again. Shock to the system, they'd told her. Give it time.

'Kay. Drinks then.

When Lina stepped off the elevator onto the second floor, she felt a little less like death, but she was still quite the sight. She'd gone for her little run in a pair of ratty grey sweatpants and a black tank top, and wearing sneakers so old they were practically falling apart. Her hair was still limp and damp with sweat, and she'd thrown it back into a messy pony-tail. The expression on her face hinted that she was having something of a bad day, and when an all-too-chipper housekeeper offered her a smile Lina stopped and stared at the woman until the maid realized she suddenly had something much better to do in a different part of the hotel. Wise decision, that.

GAME START

July 1st, 2013.
Monday.

Weather Report: It's a bright, sunshiney day with temperatures at 104°F/40°C! In the shade! Wow, what a beautiful day to be alive.

Staff Briefings: The managers are informed that they can expect at least two check-ins today, Seth Morris and Cameron Wallace.

Daily Events: Watch out for the activities director from hell. She's chasing after guests with her happy little clipboard and trying to sign anyone and everyone up for ballroom dancing. Medical staff should be on alert for when she's inevitably punched in the face.
