The smells of lilacs and orchids caught Billy’s attention, pulling him out of his own mind and back into the present. He walked along the row of flowers in the shop, amazed at how much had changed, seemingly overnight. When last he was here, on Mother’s Day, he was depressed because he felt alone. Since then, he’d become friends with Bart, started dating Teddy, and joined Kate’s team of heroes, along with Eli and Teddy. A lot had changed in a short month.
Unfortunately, none of those people were with him now. He was here, alone, waiting on Wanda. Loki had warned him about her the last time they had met, but that had been weeks ago. He’d also charged him with trying to find out if her powers were stable or not. Though Loki hadn’t made his presence known in the last couple of weeks, Billy was still committed to seeing the mission through.
Something seemed off about the whole situation though, and Billy couldn’t quite put his finger on it as he stared at some Calla Lilies. If Wanda was so evil, as Loki had professed her to be, then how could she have worked her way into such a powerful group of people as the Avengers? Superman was there, so was Captain America. Wouldn’t they have objected, or had she pulled the wool over their eyes as well? Didn’t they do background checks?
Most disturbing though, of all of the things racing through Billy’s mind as he waited, was that for some reason, he still wanted to see Wanda. Though they had only met once, he had felt comfortable for a reason that he couldn’t explain. Yeah, there had been moments of concern and even worry during their last meeting, but overall, he’d felt safe.
Could it be that she had already ensorcelled him?
