Wanda extended her arm, reaching out to him as he pulled away from her. It remained there for a few moments before she let it fall limply to her side. A dull pain developed in her chest as Billy stared at her with his wide dark eyes. His eyes showed his uncertainty, concern and shock. She hated seeing him with those feelings. All she wanted to do was take him into her arms and make all of his uncertainty disappear.
She didn't though, because she knew it would only make it worse. She was the cause of those feelings. So instead of moving forward to hold him, she accepted the distance between them and stood still.
"I'm fluent," came her reply. "I was raised Romani along with my brother. My father used to carve us wooden puppets. Little marionettes." She would often tell William and Thomas about her father and the puppets he would make. One time she attempted to make some with the Vision, but they were no where near the same quality as he father's. The children had loved them, though.
"Billy... I know you don't trust me and I don't want to frighten you, but..." She paused, trying to come up with the right words. "I had two children. Twin boys named William and Thomas. I loved them dearly. I would play with them, sing and read to them, comfort them. I would whisper 'devlesa avilan' to them as they drifted off to sleep and speak to them in the same tongue my mother spoke to me."
She started to step forward, her arms lifted at her sides to show she wasn't a threat. "They were taken when they were about to turn three years old. It was a perfectly normal day. They were playing with their toys and I was watching them in the living room, but then..." She choked on her words, feeling her heart swell. "A rift opened and a horrible demon dragged them down into the chasm. My husband and I... we tried to save them but we were unable to do so."
Wanda took a deep breath to steady herself before continuing. "I thought they were gone forever. But I don't think they are. I think they were just reborn as two handsome young men, one of which is standing right in front of me."
