It had not been a great couple of days, and Ainsley was having a harder and harder time getting out of her own head. The whole vibe in the locker room is off, and she could list a ton of reasons why just off the cuff. But none of that is helpful. Right now isn't the time to think about the festering mess of her personal life, not when she's starting her first official game with Pride for the season, and not when it's so important to send out the right message.

This is bigger than her. She would do this for her team; she would do it for Amir and Keke and Tav; she would do it for Jason King and the cause he so admirably championed.

And then Ellie's voice is suddenly in her head:

But now it is your turn.

She straightens from where she's been staring at her locker for who knows how long, and then slams the door shut and sweeps a mass of hot pink braids from her shoulder- eat your heart out Scary Spice. (And big thanks to Keke for the help!) Having retrieved it from her bag, she sets out a box of lavender cream macarons- a modest offering this time around, but tradition is tradition as far as she's concerned, and this is her pre-game ritual. (They might look suspiciously familiar to Alasdair, around whom she had been a little too amused for a few days of practice earlier in the week.)

She makes her way over to Lorna and nods toward the jar of hot pink. "Mind if I...?"

Today, she's going to war. Today, she's taking no prisoners.

	"I don't mind at all," Lorna said smiling and gave Ainsley a clap on the shoulder too. "I'm looking forward to seeing how you do up there," she said. The only game she'd gotten to see Ainsley play in since coming back was the Charity match, so she deserved her shot. Lorna helped Ainsley apply the war paint which is bright and pink for the day. 	Alasdair hadn't eaten the macarons at home - he had a policy of not eating things sent by people he didn't know personally - but he had seen them when Ada had opened the 'kind gesture from a fan'. 	Merlin, two steps forward... The amusement bleeds from her face, and Ainsley makes a quick mental note not to try to kid around with Alasdair in the future. Business, then, teammates. Alasdair sighed and rubbed his temple, pretty surprised in Ada that she would spread something she knew he'd be embarrassed by.

"I would appreciate it if that article goes no further, if you don't mind" he told her. No malice, no anger, just resignation and disappointment. Why did this have to come out before a match? Afterwards he at least had more to think about, a distraction. Now this WAS the distraction.
