IC/OOC: The British and Irish Quidditch League Quarterly Commissioners' Meeting: Jan 30, 2018
Because of the size of the crowd, the BIQL Commissioners' Meeting had been moved to the first floor meeting room. It was drafty, and cold, and only barely suitable, but it was large enough for everyone who wanted to see the meeting to be allowed in.

In addition to all the regulars, Fraser noted the attendance of several people he'd identified as team management from other districts.

The meeting began and Fraser let the beuraucratic niceties flow around him. The roll was taken, a quorum was present. The minutes were read and approved. The agenda was discussed and approved. The January meeting was normally quiet, because nothing much was ever done mid-season, but this one looked exciting, or it looked exciting enough to draw a crowd. In addition to the usual quidditch press, there were some international reporters present.

Whatever they did, it was going to be noticed.

OOC: BIQL is democratic! After each section/speech, feel free to ask questions.

It has been pointed out that numerous players have been out of uniform during regulation play. Is this interfering with quality quidditch? Should there be consequences for not wearing your team's assigned uniform colors?

The floor is open

Jason stands and waits for Chairman MacFarlan to recognize him before speaking. If he has to wait until others speak, that's okay. Jason can be quite patient.

Although his shirt might be a bit cheeky, he is calm, collected, and well spoken. "I should like to ask the Chair MacFarlan to read the official uniform and equipment policy into the record."

Dawn isn't even going to hide her grin at that, she even flips her pink-streaked hair for the fun of it. C'mon McFarlan, show us what you've got backing you.

The precise rules and traditions of Quidditch are intentionally not shared with players in such a format, Mr. King, because "some witches and wizards might get ideas."

"The rules are quite clear in their intent, which is that players should be providing their talents to the end of winning the game, and that other ends are therefore not desirable during the matches."

He smiles. "Son, I am not unsympathetic to your aims, in an appropriate time and place I could support you. Just not during games. Quidditch should be free of politics, and just because we may have gotten it wrong in the past, doesnae mean we have to keep doing it wrong."

(This might be his internal reaction. He has far better emotional regulation to let this happen on the outside.)

Ainsley does not have Jason's emotional control; anyone can read the look on her face loud and clear.

As someone in the broom making business, Jason knows those regulations. There might be a fine line to fly, but he is not amused right now. Least of all about being called ‘son.’ However, he has long since been well taught to remain calm and respectful toward authority.

"To clarify then. Is the chairman seeking debate tangential to a policy which you are unwilling to cite in order to provide appropriate context?"

The commission seeks input to determine if anyone, and cadidly, if you, Mr. King, are in violation of expected standards of conduct.

Since that rule is not black and white, we would like input from all segments. We believe we know your opinion on it, and we wish to make sure we can give you proper guidance in uncertain times.

Jason does not smile when MacFarlan says his name. Absolutely not. Although he does find it a great deal more honest than the shade thrown at him in The Prophet. Jason remains neutral, calculating. If this ends poorly for him tonight, there are ways to spin the story. Right now, he just needs to be heard.

“If it would please the commission, Chairman, I would like to read my opinion into the record.”

Jason would wait until he is given the permission to speak. He did have something prepared, but as things do, it didn’t go quite to plan.

“I do not believe any claim that quality of play has changed can be substantiated. The color of my accessories no more impacts my performance or commitment to my team than a broom sponsor or any other endorsements. As for the game over all, I believe that as of December we have seen an increase in attendance in matches and merchandise sales.”

“If the issue is that neon pink requires others to reflect upon the maltreatment muggleborns in wizarding society than that is their personal dilemma. I am a muggleborn. I am never allowed to forget that. In some ways my decision to wear pink is no different than seeing Parkin, McLeod, or MacFusty on the back of robes.”

“Furthermore, it is misguided to propose that sports are not political, when sport has been historically used to influence diplomatic, social, and political relations. Surely, this is in part the intention of the European and World Quidditch Cup. Sport transcend cultural differences and bring people together, why not in doing so challenge them, challenge everyone, to truly build a better society?”

If there are no questions, Jason will thank the chairman for the opportunity to speak. He will yield the floor and take his seat.

"Hear, hear," says Archie loudly after that last bit, and flashes Jason a V for victory sign.

"Thank you Mr. King. Your opinion will be duly recorded and considered."

When Jason sits, Hamish moves on.
