Meaghan will deflect until the end of time ([info]mmmcc) wrote in [info]neeps,

Entry tags:! ic/ooc, ainsley galbraith, angus campbell, augustus pye, florinda mcgonagall, georgi draganov, gregor mcgregor, jason king, kal sharma, lorna macfarlane, madeline savage, maggie macdougal, meaghan mccormack, owen macfarlane, x-joy willison

Who: Sorry we never sent IC invites, basically practically everyone is invited since it's thrown by two Prides and a Magpie (medic).
What: Housewarming! Plus Christmas Hogmanay! Plus Joy's (super-belated) birthday!
When: 29 December, evening
Where: The Cattery, Paisley
Warnings: TBD

LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION: The Cattery is a large, six-bedroom house split down the middle, three bedrooms on each side. The heroes of our story hostesses of the party, Florinda McGonagall, Joy Willison and Meaghan McCormack, live on one side. Indira Choudry (Tutshill), Moonlight Flower MacLean (Wigtown) and Meleri Mousley (Caerphilly) live on the other side, but the party also spills into their side and the front and back gardens.

Despite Meaghan's claims, it's pretty clear that this was originally intended to be a Christmas party (in part), but since there are three different things being celebrated here, the decor is a little, shall we say, eclectic.

Dave the Quidditch Tree (small enough to be potted, large enough that lifting him takes some concentration) is decked out with plenty of little brooms, quaffles and bludgers, with a Golden Snitch on top. If asked, or even if not asked, Meaghan will inform people very seriously that all the broom ornaments are Comets. She will even explain which models. The brooms will all look roughly the same. Meaghan's chimera, Mickey, is prowling around its branches. there are also some pig ornaments from the clubhouse prank, though at this point they're not actively singing, just oinking softly, but they'll sing if you poke 'em enough. (The pigs are important because HOGMANAY, obviously.)

There's a giant Australian flag on the door and little Australian flag toothpicks on most of the food, because Meaghan ordered a box of them and there's more than she knows what to do with. There's a lot of pink for Joy, and gold because gold goes well with pink, obviously, and Joy's a Pride so that also counts for being about Joy.

The Drinks: The three pictured drinks are all hot alcoholic coffee drinks. There is also butterbeer, both regular and seasonal gingersnap flavours, hot chocolate, and eggnog. (You can probably get them without alcohol if you really want, but why would you WANNA?)
The Eats: Sweet potato chips with dipping sauces, tasty pasties and kebabs
The Sweets: Chocolate-dipped shortbread stars, spiced shortbread, jammy stars, ginger cats, fairy bread
The Most Important: Joy's birthday cake is pink and covered in stars. Some of the stars on the top of the cake are sugar, some of them are SPARKLERS. Can you guess which?? The cake also has a little figurine sitting on it of a kangaroo and a koala.

PARTWAY THROUGH THE EVENING, A SURPRISE: The party has been going for an hour or two when out of nowhere, what to our wondering ears should appear but an All-Weird-Sisters rendition of the Twelve Days of Christmas, apparently recorded at a concert (is that German coming from the audience?). At some point the days get out of order. This was not planned, at least not by the hostesses. It's very, very loud. Where is it coming from?? Is it coming from the other side of the house? Feel free to hunt down and destroy the cause of this monstrosity. (Or maybe you actually like the Weird Sisters, in which case, enjoy?)

Joy (to the world)

[ooc: THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PUTTING THIS TOGETHER, today is the first chance I've even had to think, I am so delighted and grateful, especially because FAIRY BREAD]

Joy is also delighted and grateful to her housemates, who are THE BEST (and she will tell them so with increasing frequency and sincerity as she gets drunker). She's very gold and sparkly because it makes her feel more sparkly. She's embracing the warming charms, thanks Florrie. Her dress matches her ever-present glass of champagne (no you can't have any; birthday girl perks) but the elegant-cocktail vibe is a bit disrupted by the fact that she almost constantly has a slice of fairy bread in her other hand.

Best. Birthday. Ever.

(It'll be even better if she can manage at least a pash from some fit bloke before the night is through, but she is, for Joy, not aggressively on the prowl.)

[<3<3 YOU'RE WELCOME I'm so glad this works for you, I would've added more Aussie party stuff but figured Meaghan's abilities were limited to the fairy bread]

Meaghan is glad that Joy's enjoying her party! It's her BIRTHDAY (sorta), she should enjoy it. And she should also get some action so Meaghan's going to point out likely lads throughout the evening.

(She is, I have to admit, a little baffled by the fairy bread. But supportive! Go on, have another slice.)

Joy appreciates both the moral and practical support. She may need to start keeping a list of potentials, possibly with plus and minuses added as behaviour warrants.

She doesn't have any hands free, and she's learned about sticking things down her bra, so this list will presumably be written on her forearm...

Joy is going to end up in a drunken sugar high and then Meaghan will see! (Whether Meaghan will see the mistake she made or the point of fairy bread is debatable.)

Toward the beginning of the evening, Jason will go in search of Joy to present the most solemn of birthday present. It is wrapped pretty well, but in newspaper. He is quite proud of this find and thinks that Joy might be amused as well.

That is FANFUCKINGTASTIC, which Joy totally announces at top volume. There is a lot of laughter, but she also insists on hanging it up immediately. (But probably settles for propping it up next to the kettle in the kitchen.)

You are all right, Mr King. Have some fairy bread.

Jason grins proud that she liked the gift. It seemed rather silly and appropriate, he was glad that he was right.

In everything else that's been going on, Joy clean forgot about that karaoke idea, but now she is a portrait of remembering a great idea. Yes. Yes! They should make this thing happen. How long do you need to get your a-game together? Because obviously portree is always on song.

Lifted eyebrows and a slow grin. "Friday coming up, then? What is it, I can never even remember the day at this time of year. The--" counts on her fingers "--5th? Reckon you're good for it?"

LATER IN THE NIGHT, Joy makes a point of swinging past Jason to note that there's some crazy birthday something going on that week and it allegedly involves karaoke and she doesn't want to muscle in on someone else's funtimes, so maybe the Friday after.

Lorna and Owen have a gift for Joy, and Lorna wishes her happy birthday fairly early on. They are magical bath bombs. Why are they magical? Apparently they do different things- make floating lasting bubbles, they can change the color of your skin, remind you of the best time of your life, or make spiraling galaxies of glittering stars that fill the room. Stuff like that. Owen picked them out.

So delightful! Joy is very much looking forward to trying them out! Hugs for both of them, and do you have a drink? Have a drink. Try the fairy bread. :D

At some point Angus slides up to Joy to wax rhapsodic about fairy bread, which he hasn't had since he was about ten and had half thought was a thing his family had made up because none of his childhood friends had the least idea what he was talking about when he tried to describe it to them. Surprise, this extremely Scottish-accented dude spent part of his childhood in New Zealand with his mum's family! So he and Joy clearly have things to talk and reminisce about and he's been places she's probably been and can mimic Kiwi slang in an outrageously fake accent. Instant Friends, I hope <3

Totally instant friends! That's exactly what this girl needs right now, a wonderful mix of familiar as a balm for her homesickness, and novelty as foil against all the things she's trying not to miss. She would love to hear all about his mum's family and, indeed, about him in general. At least one drink worth of solid ignoring-others chat.

Florrie had handled the birthday giving privately (a hand knit Portree scarf which is hard to disguise the making of when you live with someone, oh well, no surprise) but there is also a little box of very nice Honeydukes' chocolates from the trip to Hogsmeade this afternoon!

Georgi didn't know it was Joy's birthday, for which he apologises, but he did bring a box of chocolates for the housewarming, so does that work as a birthday present? He introduces himself to her as "Georgi, from Bulgaria. She's intimidatingly beautiful but he's brave and stands his ground and wishes her a happy birthday.

Joy is blase about presents, the party is more the point for her, but she assures Georgi with a wink that she's sure she'll find something he can do for her. And she's pleased to meet him, asking questions about what home us like and how he's finding Scotland and how he's settling in and isn't it weird.

Scrimmy is not like a superb gift giver okay? But she really likes Joy and wants to get something that maybe she'll appreciate! And like what do you get a girl who's effortlessly cool and seems like she's got most things sorted?

Anyway she obviously went to muggle stores to try and find something. A Spice Girls Official Snapshot Album (one free packet inside!) and a pack of floofy pens. It's all stuffed in a gift bag bc she can't wrap to save her life, and inside is card wishing her a happy bday with a folded up page from an article after their wasps match tucked into it. It has that gala picture of the three chasers with tiny scrimmy jumping and doing a midair kick as alasdair laughs alongside a pic from their wasps match while the article gushes about the Portree chasers especially their 2 vs.3 work (look, Scrimmy reads their press and is maybe kinda totally sentimental). Idk maybe it can go in her snapshot album *mumblemumblemumble*

Scrimmy is a MAGNIFICENT gift-giver, Joy literally squeals in delight. The album is fantastic, she is going to have to collect all the photos IMMEDIATELY and she loves the pens, she feels like Cher from Clueless, it's amazing, Scrimmy is the BEST and gets a big hug. (And that's even before Joy gets to the card and clippings when she comes back to ambush Scrimmy for an even bigger hug.)
