Something I didn't miss about overnight shifts at St. Mungo's: the wee hours waiting game. Well, I did a bit, but Someone, please, entertain me. I've read the reference books here enough to recite them in my sleep. My partner is a drip and a half, and

AINSLEY GALBRAITH:

I'm living vicariously through you, so please, spill.
ALEC URQUHART:

[Each bullet is written in a separate ward so Alec's fancy charm to notify him of wards goes off multiple times. 23 times, to be exact. Strikeouts are cosmetic only, and the text beneath them readable.]
  • Dear Master Urquhart,

  • It was a pleasure to see you at the Macmillain Ranch earlier this week.
  • Conversing with you was a singular experience, as always.
  • Thank you so much for relieving me of my firewhiskey; it was weighing my bag down rather a lot.
  • I've been told that it's unladylike to be drinking hard liquors, but how else is a young woman such as myself expected to lure men into her grasp find a dance companion in this day and age?
  • On that note, thank you also for the dance. It was such a welcome surprise when you didn't mangle my feet like my peers warned me you would.
  • Won't they be surprised!

  • I'm sorry, we don't have much paper up here in the mountains where we don't have many trees.
  • I'm rather ashamed to say, but I find I must use each piece of paper for a dual purpose.
  • Please excuse this break in propriety while I record my shopping list for my elderly house elf, Geraldina.

  • Eggs (12)
  • Cheddar cheese
  • Bell pepper (2)
  • Gym socks
  • New sweater?
  • Souls of the innocent
  • Dish towel

  • I do hope we can find time to meet again.

  • Best wishes,
  • The Lady Maighread MacDougal, esq.

  • P.S. Fuck you.

  • P.P.S. Merry Christmas.

  • P.P.P.S. But still, fuck you.

My brain is currently half awake thanks to certain ladies of disrepute. Why are you even awake at this hour?

Oh, wow, bringing out the deep cuts. And can't you read? I'm working and bored. Which, as it just so happens, tends to put me in the mind for revenge. And italics.

I've been spending the better part of an hour trying not to read what you've been waking me up with.

I can't help but feel as though you're taking our friendship for granted, Alexander. I'm helping you wake up early so you can be as productive as possible on this beautiful Saturday morning! You can go for a run! Bake a loaf of bread! Be the target of a cunning revenge plot! Read a book! Keep me entertained! Watch the birds wake up!

The opportunities are endless!

UNTIL...midmorning owl!
[info]ohlaird
2017-12-24 07:10 pm UTC (link)
(OOC: From a very persistent owl tapping on her bedrooom window right around the time Alec figures nightshift workers would be trying to get their sleep)

Dearest Disreputable Lady Maighread,

I must thank you for the reminder that opportunities are endless. You see, in my early morning state of muddled confusion at having been kept awake by a particularly persistent and maddening lady with ideas of revenge, I had completely forgotten a particularly important and disputable fact.

Namely, that I am a wizard.

Fully capable of silencing charms and altering notification charms, particularly to key them to silence the wards of one particularly irritating lady.

I do appreciate you holding for the night, one does want these owls to come at the most opportune times, and I hope it finds you bright-eyed and ready for the day.

And now farewell, may merlin give you poor rest and render to you the gratitude you deserve, which is largely minimal, you marauding malificent lady.

return owl

When Maggie sends the owl back to Alec, it's holding a small package instead of a note. Inside is three-dimensional star shape about 3" across with "OPEN ME ♥ M." written on the top.

When opened, it explodes in fanfare and glitter. The large flakes are red, green, and silver, and take nothing short of three rounds of
Scourgify to remove from the surfaces it hits.

An envelope addressed to Maggie that has a note and and another, slightly smaller, envelope within it.

Note:

Enclosed is a picture of the results of your glitter 'gift'. It is the only copy. Please don't try too hard to open it, I have no replacements.

Please also note that the seal is locked so that only one wand can open it. Peggy's.

Merry Christmas
