WHO: Everyone! IC/OC
WHEN: Thursday, 21 December 1999
WHERE: The Manor House, Macmillan Park
SUMMARY: Mid-Season (Christmas) Party hosted by the Montrose Magpies at Macmillan Park, cocktail dresses and blazers suggested.
RATING: Low

The Macmillan Family welcomes you to to Macmillan Park for the Mid-Season Yule party for all of Scottish Quidditch (and then some).

The Manor House is decorated for the season, with each room on the first floor having a display of its own. The public areas of the garden are also decorated and kept at a comfortable temperature (as long as you are wearing a cloak) with plenty of warming charms. Christmas crackers are available on all of the tables for all of your paper crown and terrible joke needs.

Finger foods and drinks (alcoholic and non) are plentiful. Eggnog can be made either way and if you want a hot chocolate with a splash of whisky, nobody is going to bat an eye. Entertainment is provided by the Tomnahurich Quartet and the Calanais Singers throughout the night in the main hall. A selection of seasonal songs in the muggle and wizarding traditions were planned, but both groups will take requests. They will be performing both together and separately.

For any children who joined their parents in the festivities, they have their own party going on upstairs in the rarely-used nursery (think very large and extensive playroom with bedrooms nearby and a schooling area). There are kid friendly foods, including sandwiches, personal pizzas in seasonal shapes, a Hot Chocolate Bar, and cherry flavored fizzy drinks. There are, of course, plenty of sweets to be had as well.

Listening to the Winter Solstice Broom Race (Library)

Aureliana made sure the Wireless was on and tuned to Jason King racing in the Winter Solstice Broom Race. Attendees can listen in the Library where charms muffle the music from the main hall. There are several comfortable couches and chairs.

Lex makes a point to drop by and listen when the racers are close to the finish line.

Maddock would have excused himself from the party to go listen to the end of the race to listen in on where Jason was in the race and when he finishes.

Aureliana was often busy elsewhere, but she did pop in regularly to check in on Jason's progress.

Jamie would pull her in to sit by him and/or on his lap depending on how many drinks he's had by then and offer her a sip or bit from whatever he's eating or drinking.

Lets be honest, she needed the excuse to sit down and eat from time to time, she probably hasn't stopped moving formost of the evening..

Once Kal finds out this is a thing, she takes full advantage of the fact that listening in on the race doesn't involve making small talk.

Merc drops by regularly to check on the race standings at various points. When things are reaching the last stretch he sticks around to listen to Jason fight it out in a close race for just past the podium.

Alasdair pops in for a minute or two each time he passes the library on his wanderings, checking in on Jason's progress. When it appears as though the race is coming to an end, he stays with the crowd listening as Jason crosses the line, wanting to know how he got on.

Once it started getting closer to the end, Maddock would have stayed more permanently to wait to hear the finish and Jason's place. He'd chat Alasdair the younger up!

Alasdair B is perched on the edge of one of the leather chairs, head turned towards the wireless when he realises there’s a presence near him. He looks up, sees Alasdair and nods in greeting, offering up his hand as he introduces himself, because it doesn’t see, like that’s happened yet?

In that case, Alasdair M. introduces himself to Alasdair B with a handshake. But he can call him Maddock, or some variation as most people do. Because going to meet someone in Quidditch with the same first name as you seems highly amusing to Maddock. He would have just come back into the library so he'd ask Alasdair about Jason's progress.

Alasdair introduces himself as Ada's partner, so their reserve Keeper is the reason he's in the building. Their starting Chaser, he explains, is an old friend of his from school which is why he's listening to the wireless.

"He's sitting around 5th at the moment," he explains, nodding his head towards the wireless.

Soon to interview him, Anais pops in midway through the evening to listen for mentions of the race. She's keen to get a full picture of the man behind the movement.

Angus is in and out of the library, checking in on the status of the race; he's going to apparate out to the finish line in the last half hour or so of the race to watch his buddy make his triumphant (he's sure) finish, but until then he's going to cheer on from here. If he had a Time-Turner he would be in both places at once, but alas.

Hey Maddock! Help him transfigure this button he has into a gold medal shaped like a crown to present to Jason upon his inevitable victory. It can sing Christmas songs, too, Angus feels that would be a nice touch.

He's excited by the race, but also seems a bit distracted.

As it turns out, Ainsley knows entirely too much about professional broom racing, and can rattle off statistics and race year particulars with encyclopedic precision. (She doesn't do this often, or to too many people, but it's still there, just bubbling beneath the surface.) She's been a fan of Jason's racing career for years, so, if anyone starts cheering, she's right there with them.

Fraser is interested, but doesn't know nearly as much about it as she does, although he's been following Jason's career as well and remembers some of his matches.

"Pretty amazing to be so talented at two sports. We're lucky he wanted to come back to Quidditch. Do you race as well?"

The laugh that Ainsley gives is just on the wrong side of bitter, but it's nothing if not honest (what was in that drink...?). "No." After a moment's hesitation, she continues, because she doesn't want to seem rude. "I have... broom trust issues. It's what got me bumped to reserve status in the first place, and most of the reason why I'm happy to stay there."

She wonders if he'd read about the accident at the beginning of her career, but wouldn't be surprised if he had. Most people in the professional circles knew vaguely what happened, but not the particulars. Going on ten years, and she was still not very comfortable talking about it.
