WHO: Everyone! IC/OC
WHEN: Thursday, 21 December 1999
WHERE: The Manor House, Macmillan Park
SUMMARY: Mid-Season (Christmas) Party hosted by the Montrose Magpies at Macmillan Park, cocktail dresses and blazers suggested.
RATING: Low

The Macmillan Family welcomes you to to Macmillan Park for the Mid-Season Yule party for all of Scottish Quidditch (and then some).

The Manor House is decorated for the season, with each room on the first floor having a display of its own. The public areas of the garden are also decorated and kept at a comfortable temperature (as long as you are wearing a cloak) with plenty of warming charms. Christmas crackers are available on all of the tables for all of your paper crown and terrible joke needs.

Finger foods and drinks (alcoholic and non) are plentiful. Eggnog can be made either way and if you want a hot chocolate with a splash of whisky, nobody is going to bat an eye. Entertainment is provided by the Tomnahurich Quartet and the Calanais Singers throughout the night in the main hall. A selection of seasonal songs in the muggle and wizarding traditions were planned, but both groups will take requests. They will be performing both together and separately.

For any children who joined their parents in the festivities, they have their own party going on upstairs in the rarely-used nursery (think very large and extensive playroom with bedrooms nearby and a schooling area). There are kid friendly foods, including sandwiches, personal pizzas in seasonal shapes, a Hot Chocolate Bar, and cherry flavored fizzy drinks. There are, of course, plenty of sweets to be had as well.

Fraser is interested, but doesn't know nearly as much about it as she does, although he's been following Jason's career as well and remembers some of his matches.

"Pretty amazing to be so talented at two sports. We're lucky he wanted to come back to Quidditch. Do you race as well?"

The laugh that Ainsley gives is just on the wrong side of bitter, but it's nothing if not honest (what was in that drink...?). "No." After a moment's hesitation, she continues, because she doesn't want to seem rude. "I have... broom trust issues. It's what got me bumped to reserve status in the first place, and most of the reason why I'm happy to stay there."

She wonders if he'd read about the accident at the beginning of her career, but wouldn't be surprised if he had. Most people in the professional circles knew vaguely what happened, but not the particulars. Going on ten years, and she was still not very comfortable talking about it.

Fraser senses her uncomfortableness, and changes the topic.

"Pretty amazing what these long-distance guys do. In the old days, they flew all night, and there had to hug to shore and use muggle lighthouses as coastal markers. The first of these Sky-to-Montrose races took 30 hours and they had to rescue 6 flyers who got lost."

"And the scandinavian ones are even worse. But they like to hold theirs during the long northern summers. And sing about Cod, because that's what you do in Norway, apparently."

"I'm sure the racers appreciate the advancements." Ainsley smiles, beyond grateful for his masterful redirect, and then laughs. "You don't mean Torsken kommer nå? My dad and I used to butcher that song all the time. Would absolutely drive my mum spare."

It was getting on toward the last part of the race, but Ainsley got the feeling that Fraser might be a little bored. She rises from the seats they'd claimed and offers her hand. "I think you should dance with me," she says with a coy grin. "I'm rarely wrong about these sorts of things."

Fraser's eyes lit up at her smile. "When I was little, we spent summers with the Ross side of my family, way up in Caithness. If the weather was right, we'd get the wireless from Norway but not London. Da had fits, but Mum just cast a translation spell on the wireless. I heard that song a bunch, or something like it."

Fraser stands, takes her hand, and bows over it. "As long as we don't have to dance to Torsken Kommer Nå, I am in favor of this plan, and believe wholeheartedly in your near-infallibility."

He escorts her to the dance floor.
