Thread: Graduation Day (Open to All)
Characters: All Graduating Seniors, Staff, & Open to Other Students
NPCs: NPC Staff
Location: Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, Lawn
Timeline: June 1st, 2013, Around 10:00 AM
Description: It’s time to say goodbye to the seniors of Stark and Xavier who walk the stage. This time, without demons, alien entities, the Hulk, etc.
Rating: F, for some foreshadowing
Spring was kind to Salem Center and the grounds of Xavier’s were freshly groomed. Lots of green with the trees getting back their leafy tops and flowers already in bloom. It was like walking in a dream. Or a nightmare if you had a lot of spring allergies. Regardless, it was picture perfect, almost pristine, and the parents and guardians of students who could attend arrived, taking their seats. A number of the study body were there as well to see their friends walk the stage and support those who’d been voted valedictorian.
The ceremony was held outside on the grass near the hedge maze. Nice chairs were set up, along with a stage constructed by members of staff who were good when it came to that sort of thing. Charles Xavier, Howard Stark, and a few others of note were seated on the front row of the stage and behind them were the rest of the staff from each of the schools.
The ceremony was like any other. It started with the march of the graduates to their seats in the front two rows and the national anthem. Then Dr. MacTaggert went to the podium to welcome everyone there. Thick Scottish accent and all. She greeted everyone to the ceremony and gladly thanked everyone for all the hard work. She then went briefly over the program for the day and spoke about how the year came with challenges, but she was happy they were all here to overcome them.
Then came the introduction of the valedictorians for each of the schools respectively. They were each given a chance to address their fellow students. After they were done, Dr. MacTaggert returned to the podium and then began to introduce Charles Xavier who would be be addressing them as their main speaker.
A car had arrived at the front of the school around that time and two men in suits came out. One came around the stage but behind as Professor Xavier began his speech. He whispered into the ear of Captain Rogers who in turn looked to Mr. Hammond, Lady Jac, Lord Falsworth, and Mr. Barnes, motioning them for them to follow him. Then Captain Rogers leaned over to speak quietly into Logan’s ear. Logan nodded and whispered to Sage whose face remained calm but she gave a solemn nod of acknowledgement. Logan then joined the others as they exited as quietly and quickly as possible, leaving the ceremony to the front of the school where they boarded into the car and departed immediately.
Professor Xavier finished his motivational speech and then sat down and Sage by this time had leaned over to speak to Dr. MacTaggert. The woman nodded and returned to the stage to announce the presentation of the class and Sage leaned forward to speak into Charles’s ear and then Howard. Those in the audience might be confused if they were observing, but nothing was being said thus far. The ceremony continued as if nothing strange was going on. Dr. MacTaggert instructed the seniors to stand up and begin their walk to and across the stage. Each of their names were called out, and any special honors like summa cum laude or magna cum laude were announced for those that earned them, as well as any other special achievements they had.
The students were handed a leather case for their diplomas, then shook the hands of Professor Xavier, Howard Stark, and the remaining number of staff before returning to their seats. Dr. MacTaggert returned the stage and instructed the students to move the tassel from one side to the other and then proudly said, “Ay present to ye, the graduating class of 2013!”
Hats were tossed into the air, there was a large amount of applause from the audience. They did it! They graduated!
