Day 3- Fishing
Who: Ayla, John, The Doctor and Miguel
What: Fishing
When: Morning, after breakfast
Where: The Dock/The Lake
Rating: R for nudity
Status: Complete!

Ayla had decided to stay away from the foyer this morning. She didn't want the responsibility of greeting anyone else. It was too hard to explain to new people what had happened to them. There were others that did a much better job of it. Giselle made it look downright easy. So, Ayla figured if she didn't see the flashing light of the new keys, she didn't have to greet anyone.

She went through the back door of the kitchen for some breakfast, and then headed out to see about Whinney and Racer. Both horses nickered when she neared and she began to speak to them in a combination of verbal and sign language. "Good morning, Whinney." When she said the mare's name word, it came out as more of a horse whinney than a name. "Good morning, Racer." She patted the dark steppe horse on his neck and hugged both animals. Whinney was Racer's mother, and Ayla had raised them both.

She finished her breakfast and went back to her room to get some unfinished weaving to take out into the sunshine. That's when she noticed the envelope taped to her door. She opened it and, even though there was no written language in her world, Ayla found that she could understand it. She was to go fishing this morning. Looking thoughtful, she opened her door and left the envelope on the rock formation that looked astonishingly like an end table.

She decided that if she was going to make it down to the dock, she didn't have much time, and she wouldn't be able to finish the basket she had been weaving. She left her amulet in her room. She didn't want to lose it, believeing that if she did she would die. Heading down to the lake on barefeet and graceful steps she found the dock and a golem waiting there.

She saw a boat, although she'd never seen one before arriving in Mirage, with some long poles and a box. She shifted her blue eyes to the golem, knowing that it could only answer yes or no questions. She wasn't quite sure what to ask, though. "Are we supposed to use this for catching fish?" She pointed to the boat, and then looked up to see the Golem nodding. She nodded, too. She didn't know how to use a fishing pole and tackle, so she would do it her own way.

His third day on Mirage, and still the Doctor felt no closer to any sort of answer; it seemed that everything would have to be taken at face value, but the very thought of a new home made him feel queasy. As far as he saw it, a home that one could not leave was not a home at all. It was a prison. He had rebelled against his own people when they had tried to stifle him and pin him down. The very purpose of a Time Lord was to be able to travel in time and space. This planet removed his very reason for being, and he wasn't sure how he was going to adapt.

Now, to make matters even worse, it seemed that he was going to be forced into an activity. Really, this planet apparently had very different civil rights than he was accustomed to,but nonetheless he decided it was better to go than be dragged there by a golem. He was dressed as normal, in a brown pinstripe suit and sneakers that was clearly going to be far too hot for the activity but as usual the Doctor seemed oblivious to it's impracticality. For his own personal amusement, he scribbled a quick note to Rose than simply declared Gone Fishin' and left it on the pillow.

After that, he headed down to the dock, not exactly his usual cheery self, but he hoped that something might come up. For the Doctor, a fishing trip never ended up being just a fishing trip, but depressingly enough this one looked rather normal. Furthermore, the Doctor wasn't exactly a fan of catching animals for sport, even if they were 'just fish'. It was different if it necessary for survival, but under these circumstances, the Doctor hoped they would be throwing them back in again.

His expression brightened a little as he approached the dock, seeing the familiar shape of a golem alongside another humanoid female. "Hello! I think we're going to be fishing buddies today!" he grinned, giving her as an enthusiastic wave as he could muster.

Miguel walked down to the lake feeling oddly upbeat for his second day on this strange planet but Miguel couldn't help being incredibly happy to be here. For the first time in years it felt like the latino man had some freedom. Sure, he couldn't leave and these people were ordering him to go fishing but it was still twenty times better than the life he had in Oz. At least here no one was trying to kill him.

Besides, fishing was a fun and safe activity, wasn't it? At least that's what Miguel had always heard. This was the city boy's first time trying to catch a fish. 'Geez, I ain't gonna have to clean it after, am I?' he silently wondered as he reached the lake. Miguel was glad he had dressed lightly with just a sleeveless t-shirt and pants once more but he was nothing compared to the blond chick who was already at the lake. "Holy shit", he said outloud annoucing his presence.

It was hard for Miguel to take his eyes off her but he managed to and saw that there was another guy there in a freakin' suit. "Good morning" Miguel said to the pair. "You're a little overdressed for fishing man", he said to the doctor with a grin before glancing at Ayla and her animal skin outfit. "Getting back to nature there sweetheart?" His tone was light and gently teasing but just in case his words might offend the pair, Miguel spoke up quickly. "I'm just kidding. I'm Miguel by the way. What are your names?" The dark haired man glanced at the golem then and noticed the boat and fishing poles beyond the group. "We're going out in a boat? Cool".

He glanced once more at the poles resting in the boat before turning back to his companions. "I've never been fishing before", Miguel commented. "Either of you know how to use this stuff?", he asked, gesturing at the fishing gear.

When Crichton found the envelope taped to his door and read the message inside, he chuckled to himself and announced out loud, "A little heavy-handed there, don't ya think, Planet?! Not like ya have to force me to go fishin', bud!".

Placing the letter on an end table, he started himself a shower and lathered up for a shave. While looking in the mirror and trying not to nick himself, Crichton wondered, "Hey, Planet, Is there any chance we could have a cooler full of brewskis to take along on this fishing trip?". Rinsing off his face, John brushd his teeth and then quickly showered, excited to get his day started.

Whistling an old camp song, Crichton dressed in jeans, tee shirt and hiking boots and headed for the door, "Whooooa-hoooo-hooo! Planet, I love you!", he exclaimed, when he found next to the front door...a cooler full of canned beer. Picking up his cooler and strutting out the door, John headed cheerfully to the lake.

On the way to the lake he thought backon all of the fishing trips he went on with his dad and what a magical time he'd had. Those were really great days. Of course the last time he'd been in a fishing boat, was a bad boat memory...he and his beloved Aeryn Sun had been blown apart...crystallyzed by an alien weapon.

Finally arriving at the dock, he spotted the golem and what must be his companions for the day, two men and a woman...quite an assortment too, an incredible hot blonde woman in what appeared to be an animal skin swim suit or something...a thin fellow in a suit...and a latino guy.

John approached with a wide smile and shook hands with the latino guy first, "Hey, how's it goin', name's John?"

Then he shook hands with the fellow in the suit, "Hello, name's John. How are you this morning? Nice suit, by the way!"

Gently he took the woman's hand betwen two of his own, "Good morning, Miss. My name is John. I hope you are well this morning. If you need any help at all, you just let me know, okay?"

Ayla had been looking at the water and watching for fish when she heard the footsteps approaching. She turned and smiled at the man who, in turn, smiled at her. She lifted her hand to reciprocate the wave and nodded to him. She wasn't quite sure what a buddy was, but it didn't sound like a bad thing. "You are to go fishing as well?" Well, what would he be doing here if he wasn't, Ayla? She spoke to herself. Stating the obvious had never been one of her weaknesses.

Her eyes looked past the man in the suit to a younger looking man with brown skin. The color of his skin reminded her of the people of the Clan. But he wasn't quite as hairy, nor as stocky and muscular. His brown eyes and hair werea comfort to her, though. She smiled at him as well, until he addressed her. She wasn't quite sure what he meant by his comment, but it didn't have a note of sincerity to it. It seemed that he was making fun of her.

She looked mildly hurt, she could never seem to check her feelings, but she spoke her name anyway. "I am Ayla." She turned as he walked toward the boat and looked into it. "I do not knowhow to use the sticks inside, but I have gone fishing before." Another set of footsteps heralded yet another member of the party.

He was a handsome man, also with dark hair, but he was very tall. Even she had to look up to him. She smiled up at him as he glasped one of her hands between both of his. She could tell by his body language that his words were sincere. "Thank you, John. I am Ayla. If you need help, you need only ask." She nodded to him and stepped back. She looked to the golem who pointed to the boat. Time to go.

She bit down on her lower lip. She'd never seen a boat, let alone gotten in one. Instead, she walked down the dock back to the bank and removed her wrap. She folded it neatly and left it on a rock before she waded into the water. She looked back at the men on the dock before she swam toward them with strong clean strokes.

The Doctor turned, giving Miguel a curious look as he announced his presence in such a dramatic way, not quite certain what had prompted such enthusiasm. “Mornin’!” the Doctor smiled, looking down at his suit as the man commented on his appearace. “What, this old thing? Nah, it’s been through worse than a little fishing trip! Plus, comfy shoes!” he pointed out, waggling his foot as if to prove his point. “I’m the Doctor. Lovely to meet you,” he said, offering a handshake. “I’m not an expert, but I gather this method has a lot more waiting involved than anything else,” he remarked. He wasn’t entirely sure why it was considered a sport.

As John approached the group, the Doctor raised an eyebrow as he spotted the cooler he was carrying with him. “Well thanks! I’m the Doctor. I see someone came prepared!” he commented, accepting the handshake with an over-enthusiastic grin… although he couldn’t help but snort a little as John spoke to the female of the group; it always amused him when men talked to women as though they were the most likely to need assistance. The Doctor couldn’t count the times he’d needed a woman to come to his rescue instead. His amusement only increased as Ayla turned the statement round to include John as well; she certainly seemed capable of looking after herself, anyway!

“Allonsy!” the Doctor said as he followed Ayla down the dock, stopping short when Ayla started to remove her clothing. “Oh, well that’s one way to do it!” he commented. “I think I’ll go for the more traditional approach, though!” he suggested, stepping carefully into the boat. The Doctor felt naked without his tie on these days, and he highly doubted anyone would want to wait for him to remove the excessive amount of layers he was currently wearing.

Miguel listened to the Doctor and grinned when he pointed down at his shows. "That's true man, you've gotta be comfortable". Another soon joined their group, a rather friendly guy name John who offered his hand to them all. Miguel shook it, "Hey man, nice to meet you too. I'm Miguel", he said before John headed over to Ayla. I

t was amusing to watch John offer Ayla help and to see Ayla retort with her own offer of help but Miguel's expression of amusement turned to shock when Ayla stripped off. His mouth fell open and he couldn't help but stare as she climbed into the water. "Not that I don't appreciate the view", he said to John and the Doctor, "But what the hell is she doing?"

Miguel shook his head in disbelief as he followed the Doctor to the boat. As beautiful as Ayla was Miguel couldn't help but feel a little awkward as he tried not to stare. While he wasn't going to do anything and John and the Doctor seemed like nice guys, it just wasn't smart for a woman to strip off in front of strangers.

"Does she do that a lot?" Miguel asked the pair as he helped himself to a pole. "Ayla", he called. "You sure you don't want to get in the boat?", he asked with concern. "Esto es una locura", he muttered. "I hope the lake doesn't have leeches", Miguel added. Despite his concerns, Miguel silently told himself that it was Ayla's choice to do as she wanted. Who was he to object? So he turned back to John. "Hey, you want me to take that cooler for you while you climb in?" Miguel offered.

When Ayla offered him help in return, John smiled a big white smile and replied, "Well, thank you, Ayla, that's very kind". He opened the large cooler he was carrying and announced, "I have beer, compliments of the Planet, what's mine is yours!".

Taking a cold brew out of the cooler, John popped one open and took a long drink just as Ayla peeled off her clothes and waded into the water...looking her and doing a double take, he did his best imitation of a fountain, spraying the beer in his mouth all over the dock in a fine spray... "Pfffffffffffffffffffffffffft!!!! WHOA!", he exclaimed, looking first at the Doctor and then to Miguel, "Does she do that alot?!", Crichton repeated Miguel's qustion and chuckled, "If she does, I imagine she's very popular", he struggle with looking and not looking; here was an incredibly beautiful woman...naked and not caring if they looked at her...but she was so innocent, they really shouldn't look at her.

When the Doctor opted for the 'more traditional approach', John chuckled and called after him, "I'm right with ya, Doc!".

Laughing, John tossed the cooler to Miguel and jumped in the boat, "There's plenty there, Pal! The Planet was feeling very generous", turning to the Doctor, he teased, "Doc, we could take a few out and let them get warm for you, if you like?".

Finally, John approached the golem standing by their boat and suggested, "Hey, Golly! Would you go retrieve our female passenger and please make sure you dress her?", he patted the stone being on the back, "Thanks!".

Ayla could hear them talking as she approached the dock through the water. She came alongside the boat they were going to be getting into. Even if they looked down, the gentle waves and ripples of the water caused a refraction that distorted the look of her body. The quick look they'd gotten while she was still on shore was all they would get until she got out.

"Are we fishing now?" She enquired, looking up at the three men as they began to get into the boat. She swam away, relishing the feel of the cool water on her skin and the freedom it inspired in her. She didn't go out too far from shore. She wanted to be able to get to the rocks without having to dive too far or hold her breath for too long. She waited for the men to get into the boat and move out away from the dock, treading water and dipping her head back to wet her hair.

She dove down and stuck her hand into some rocks. She felt the scaly skin of the fish and grasped it quickly. Shoving off toward the surface she saw the boat and headed for it, holding the fish out of the water with one hand while she swam with the other. The fish writhed in her grip, struggling to get free and return to the water. But Ayla had an incredible strength, born of surviving in prehistoric times, and she didn't let go.

She grabbed onto the side of the boat and tossed the fish in. "I caught one!" She beamed, proud of herself. She fished a lot during the spring and summer, but during the winter when the streams and rivers froze, she didn't get to. She loved fish, and she wondered if she would be able to cook and eat the fish she was catching.

"We don't have to let them go, do we?" She looked up at the faces of the three men, her brow furrowing. She didn't fish for sport, she fished for survival, and putting them back was almost out of the question for her.

“Getting back to nature, like you said!” he grinned, more amused by the situation than anything else. Stripping off wasn’t really the best way to shock the Doctor; in fact, he was a lot more interested in the fishing equipment. He knew what a naked humanoid female looked like – fishing equipment? Now that was interesting! “I have no idea, I only met her a few seconds before you, but she seems fairly at ease, so I’d guess it’s fairly common for her,” he suggested, picking up a rod curiously. “Do we have live bait? That stuff gives me the shivers!” he enquired of a golem, who simply pointed to the appropriate boxes for him to find out for himself.

The Doctor scrunched up his nose a little as John started to discuss the beer. “What? Why? No.. I.. what?” he said, ever so eloquently. Why would he want a warm beer?

Either way, he was quickly distracted as Ayla disappeared below the water and reappeared with a fish in her grasp. “Oh, now that is something!” he exclaimed, a lot more impressed by this feat than her nudity. “That is a sport!” he nodded enthusiastically, although a look of distaste crossed his face as he looked down at the writhing fish. The Doctor longed to toss it back, but at the same time he knew that it was the woman’s choice. “I… well.. are you going to cook it?” he asked, hopeful of a positive response. He didn’t so much mind that, especially considering the woman was clearly of a distant time, he just hated people who left them there to rot, dead for no reason at all.

Miguel laid down the cooler and settled into the boat as he contemplated grabbing a beer. It had been a while since he had once since booze was obviously prohibited in prison so Miguel decided, why not? Yet as soon as his hands closed around the cold metal, he could Sister Pete’s disapproving face in his mind’s eye. “I’ll save it for later”, he said out loud before looking to the bait. If was worms of course but Miguel had no trouble grabbing one of the wiggly things and securing it to his hook. “Should we move the boat out into deeper water?” he questioned out loud, feeling like he didn’t have a clue what he was doing.

Suddenly Ayla reappeared from under the water with a fish in her hand. “Lo que el infierno? Did she--?” He started before looking directly at Ayla. “Did you just catch a fish with your bare hands? That is pretty impressive”, Miguel added with a note of awe in his voice. “We don’t have to let it go”, he answered in reply to Ayla’s question about the fish. “I mean, do we? Are there any rules about this shit?”

God, Miguel wished he knew more about fishing.

“Are you planning on eating it Ayla?” Miguel didn't have a problem with that himself. As far as the latino was concerned, you didn't catch fish unless you planned on eating them.

The golem merely looked at John as if to tell him 'things were under control'. John shrugged and went back and sat in the boat, "Fine, Chuckles! Beer, Bait and Broads! I'm setup just fine! Don't break your back for me!", he teasingly grumbled as he took another swig of beer, selected a fishing rod...an electric blue one...and then chose himself a lure.

Just about the time he thought he might ask if they were ever going to move out into deeper water, Miguel asked the very same question. While waiting for the answer, Ayla startled him by popping up out of the water with a fish that she'd caught...by hand! Crichton dropped his fishing rod and smacked himself in the forehead, "No we don't have to throw them back, darlin'" he replied to Ayla. Then, speaking lower, he sighed, "Doc, Miguel...if I weren't already married, I'd make that woman my wife...I mean...right now!". With a grin he asked, "How about you guys? She's a great catch...no pun intended".

Crichton thought back on his time aboard Moya;women...it seemed as if he had been a magnet for every incredible woman in the uncharted territories. No matter the race, John had known women of amazing abilities and sensibilitie...seems being brought to this planet wasn't going to end that streak.

"Hey,Chuckles!", John called to the golem, "When we do finally get our babe-alicious mermaid in the boat and get out there in the water fishing, did you pack a little something...you know...some num nums for us to eat? Lunch? Nourishment?".Th golem merely pointed to the cabin of the boat. John went in to find a finely stocked pantry and mini-fridge. "Well, alright, Chuckles! I was wrong about you, you little sneak!", he teased, the nonresponsive rock man.

The last thing Ayla wanted to do was shock anyone by stripping off and getting into the water. But in prehistoric times, they didn't exactly have bathingsuits. And getting her wrap wet was out of the question. It took time to work the leather back into a soft pliable skin after it had shrunk from the moisture. So, she did the only natural thing, and swam in the nude. She dried much faster, and she had a warm wrap to put back on after it had been baking in the sun while she swam.

Clothes to the Clan were more of a protection from the elements than a modesty thing. Bare bodies were seen all the time, and when you lived in a cave full of families, there was no way to avoid it. Let alone hearing the impassioned cries of lovers at their hearths. Children were introduced to sex early and even practiced on each other once in a while during play. Ayla found nothing about fishing even remotely arousing and she wouldn't have understood the cries of dismay and alarm from the men. The golem didn't seem to mind, anyway.

She looked up at the doctor as he posed the question of cooking it. She looked at him strangely. "Do you eat your fish uncooked?" She supposed it was possible, but she had never done it. She then looked to Miguel who asked if she was planning to eat it. "Yes, I will eat it." She nodded to emphasize her statement. She grinned at John who loudly told her she wouldn't have to throw it back. "I'll go get another one."

She shoved off the side of the boat and moved closer to shore. When she could touch the bottom with her feet and crouch down but still be covered by the water, she did so. And then she waited. After several minutes, she saw shadows of undulating fish pass her by. And then were the current of the lake flowed, she saw a fish stop and swim in place against the current.

Ayla moved her hand behind the fish and slowly eased forward until she was underneath it's gills. She grabbed the fish swiftly, her fingers slipping into the slits of its gills and held it in the air. She grinned again and swam back toward the boat. Tossing this one inside in a similar fashion to the previous. She held on and grinned at the three men. "Another one. Two fish!" She was excited and glad that she was able to contribute.

But the men looked as if they were enjoying themselves inside the floating bowl and she wondered if she should join them. Shoving off the side again she waded back to shore and grabbed her wrap, then swam with it held above her head so it wouldn't get wet, back to the boat. She tossed her wrap in and it landed on a cushioned seat. "John, would you help me in?" She held her hand out to him so he could pull her into the boat.

The Doctor wasn’t much of a drinker, and when he did drink beer wasn’t really his drink of choice. He mulled over Miguel’s suggestion, and nodded slowly in agreement. “Yeah, I suppose that would make sense,” he agreed, although he made no move to do anything of the sort, waiting for Ayla to get into the boat.

He shrugged as everyone started to question whether the fish had to be thrown back or not. If he caught one, he’d either give it to one of the others to eat or throw it back, but he could hardly dictate the others actions. He smiled politely as John discussed the female, but said nothing. Just because someone stripped off and caught fish with their hands didn’t mean he was about to fall in love with them. Now, looking into the heart of the TARDIS and destroying the Dalek fleet… that sort of woman would be quite the catch, as John put it. “Ooh, we have nibbles! I love it!” he exclaimed, far more entertained by their lunch than anything else.

He turned and gave Ayla a look of bafflement. “Do I... what?” It took him a couple of seconds to catch on. “Oh! No, I meant cook and eat as opposed to… left to rot,” he explained, scrunching up his nose a little at the thought. He raised an eyebrow as she disappeared again, popping up with another fish. “Right, we’ve got a bit of catching up to do, lads!” he grinned.

Once it was settled that Ayla got to keep her fish, the blond girl had quickly went under to get another. All Miguel could do was chuckle before he turned and focused on his own fishing. They might not be far out but if Ayla could catch one with her hands in around the boat then Miguel was sure he could cast a line here. His first attempt was less than successful as Miguel nearly caught the hook in his face. “Ai!” he yelped, jerking the line away before the hook could grab his skin.

While Ayla was getting into the boat, Miguel adjusted the line on his pole and moved away from the others before making his next attempt. This time he actually hit the water. “This isn’t so hard”, Miguel commented as he got comfortable. No fishing didn’t seem so hard to Miguel but he wasn’t fish as quickly as Ayla had done with her bare hands. After a few minutes of absolutely nothing happened, Miguel decided that fishing probably required more patience then he had so he let the pole rest against the side of the boat and glanced back at the others. “Besides Ayla, is anyone else having any luck?”

It was just that moment when Miguel was looking away that something would grab the line. The sound of the reel spinning caught Miguel’s attention. “Holy shit”, he exclaimed as he grabbed his pole. “I think I got something”. Whatever it was, it was heavy. Miguel thought it would be a simple matter of just reeling it in but he could feel the tension on the line. “Jeez, how big is this thing?” Miguel struggled, trying not to break the line when felt something give. The latino fell back a little as his line came up easily now to reveal an empty hook.

“No pescado”, he muttered, “But it looks like I need to rebait my hook”.

"We definately have nibbles, Doc", Crichton agreed with a smile and a conspiratorial nudge, whispering, "As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure, if you'd rather not actually fish...as long as you are with us, the big rock monkey over there probbly wouldn't care if you just sat here and nibbled and enjoyed the scenery".

Just then Miguel's line whipped past John's head, "Whoaaa!", he laughed as he ducked, "Cuidado there, buddy! It's an easy toss with a little more wrist action". Crichton liked this Miguel guy...he reminded him of D'Argo back in the Uncharted Territories. Of course the man didn't look anything like the big Luxan, but something about the man's personlity was spot on.

When Ayla swam up to the boat and tossed in her wrap, John could feel the heat rising in his face...then when she held up her hand and calledhis name for a lift into the boat, his Adam's apple felt the size of an actual apple... "Ummmm...Okay, you guys, eyes averted! Be gentlemen here!", he looked around frantically and then remembered that he'd seen towels in the cabin pantry. Holding one finger up, he requested, "One minute, Ayla, honey!", as he ran and selected a large pink towel and ran back out, offering his hand and holding the pink towel in the other. When Ayla's feet touched the deck, he quickly wrapped the towel around her, "See how nice and warm that is? You can dry off very quickly and get dressed like almost right now", he suggested.

Once Ayla was in the boat, and wrapped in the pink towel, John turned to get a beer and his fishing rod and almost went overboard when the boat moved...the golem had gone into the cabin and was driving them out a bit further into the water. They didn't go too far when the man of stone cut the engine and came back out to join them with a wordless smile. John gave him a pat on the shoulder, "Thanks for the warning, Chuckles".

She waited patiently for John to return, wondering why he needed to do something before helping her into the boat. When he returned with a soft pink cloth, Ayla smiled. She was not entirely ignorant of a towel's uses. She had them in the bathroom in her cave. They were made of animal skin, but they were just as absorbent.

As soon as he hauled her into the boat, the large pink towel was wrapped around her and she tried not to laugh. He was acting so strangely, as if her nakedness was something to be ashamed of or embarrassed by. "Thank you, John." She smiled radiantly at him and turned to grab her wrap. She shed the towel with her backs to them and pulled her wrap over her head, tying it securely at her waist. Sitting down on the cushioned bench, she used the towel to dry her arms and legs before folding it and laying it out to dry.

Ayla watched Miguel bait his hook and nearly take a piece of his cheek off with it while he was trying to cast. His second attempt was more successful and she waited with him, to see if anything would catch hold. She wanted to get a better look at these sticks and hooks that they were trying to catch fish with. She reached for a hook and examined it. The sharp barbs looked like they would go through skin but be difficult to extract if it were pulled back out. It was a good idea.

She then took one of the extra poles and examined it, finding that the hooks tied to the ends of the clear line that ran the length of it. She still wasn't sure how it all worked and how you got the fish to bite the hook, but she figured that once it had bitten down on the hook, the line would help bring it into the boat. Ayla preferred her method of fishing, but she couldn't fault the men for not knowing how to do it.

The golem took them further out onto the lake and exited the cabin to pick up Ayla's fish and put them in an empty cooler full of ice water. They were dead already, but at least they wouldn't rot that way. She grinned at the Doctor when he quipped that they had some catching up to do. She hadn't been around many men of the Others. Only Clan men. Jondalar had been the first man of the Others she had seen, so it was a little overwhelming and quite interesting to observe them.

When she found that she was hungry, she went down into the cabin and looked through the fridge. She took out a bottle of water. She was used to them now, but when she'd first seen the clear plastic bottles, she hadn't known what to think. She also took out a parchment paper wrapped sandwich. She had grown used to these as well. They were always stocked in the kitchen fridges and she had been pleasantly surprised by the way they combined grains and meats and vegetables in one hand-held item.

She went back out on deck with her food and sat back down on the cushioned bench, crossing her legs Indian-style and watching the men work. Maybe after she had watched them for a time she would try it herself.

The Doctor was trying to hook a worm onto his own hook when Miguel nearly caused himself an injury. At the sound of his yelp, the Doctor instinctively ducked, but as he looked up to see what was going on he burst out laughing. “Sorry, sorry! I’m sure I’ll end up taking an eye out, so I don’t know what I’m laughing about,” he admitted, but the words had barely left his lips before he started chuckling again. Apparently fishing was more dangerous than he had anticipated. “Yeah, looks like you’re just feeding the fish for now,” he grinned, deciding to wait until they moved before he tried anything himself.

The Doctor raised his eyebrows at John, blinking a couple of times before he realised his own foolish mistake. “I honestly just thought you said nipples. I can’t think why!” he said sarcastically, giving him a cheeky grin. The Doctor didn’t take being told what to do too well, but for the time being he was going to play along. He didn’t need to be told to avert his eyes; in fact, he was already investigating the sandwich situation instead. “Ooh, look at that! Tuna! Is that to console if we don’t catch anything?” he asked the golem, obviously not expecting an answer as he took one. By the time he returned to his seat Ayla was dressed again. “Oh, hello! Nice of you to join us!” he grinned.

While the golem moved the boat out into deeper water, Miguel focused on re-baiting his hook. The Latino man fished out another worm from the tackle and bait box and slipped the wiggling creature onto the metal hook before fixing his line. He did all this silently until the golem stopped the boat once more. Readying his line, Miguel cast out once more, a better attempt this time as he managed to avoid himself or others.

While he watched the bobber float on the surface of the water, Miguel glanced back at his companions. He was curious about these strangers but worried about asking them any questions for it meant they could also turn the questions back to him and he was trying to keep where he was really from a secret. The last thing he need was to be ostracized for being in prison or for some do-gooder to try and send him back for his crimes. John and the Doctor seemed like good canidates for the latter but he didn't know for sure.

'I already lied to Rose when I talked to her yesterday though', he silently argued. 'As long as I keep to that story I should be alright.' Satisfied, Miguel opened his mouth. "Where are you guys from?" he asked the crew. "Like where were you before you found yourself here?"

Before the question could be turned to him, Miguel decided to get his story out of the way first. "I was home in New York City, passed out in my bed after work", he said easily. "I woke up here and met a chica named Rose in the gardens." It struck Miguel then how appropriate the gardens had been to meet a pretty girl named Rose. "She was nice enough to show me around and to my room. Speaking of the rooms here, aren't they crazy? They can change right before your eyes!"

While Ayla dried off and dressed herself, John busied himself with preparing his rod and reel…he was tempted to take a peek or two as a flash of tanned leg or a wisp of blonde hair moved into his peripheral vision, but then the disapproving face of his beloved, ass-kicking wife, Aeryn Sun, came to mind and he smiled softly to himself and kept to the task at hand.

He noticed that Ayla had taken an interest in the fishing rods and hooks and he was about to offer her instruction on the usage of the tools when he noticed that she was watching Miguel. Maybe she kinda liked the guy and from what John could see, he seemed like an okay dude. No reason to go over and step on his toes then…the young astronaut decided he’d just stay over on his side of the boat and fish, leaving possible romance to take wing.

“Nipples?!”, Crichton exclaimed, “You thought I said, ‘We definitely have nipples, Doc’?”, he addressed the Doctor with an incredulous look, “I think you need to peel a few layers off, my man! The heat must be getting to you”, he chuckled. John was grinning largely as he tossed his line into the water…he was starting to see the reason for this fishing trip…he liked this little group and he may not have met them otherwise. “Tell me, Doc, “Why do men have nipples?”, Crichton asked ‘seriously’, “Myself, I use mine to locate my shirt pockets when I’m drunk…y’know, in case I want to put matches, a lighter, cigar, something like that in there!”.

When Miguel asked where they were from, Crichton smiled, “New York, eh! Big town, Miguel! I’m a country boy…from North Carolina, but I was taken from a galaxy from our own and far from here. I was actually with a crew of fugitives aboard a living starship in what they call the Uncharted Territories”, he smiled and blared his eyes, “Kinda blows your mind, huh?”, he chuckled.

Just as John was starting to relax and listen to the others, his line grew taut…he jumped up and gave it some slack and then reeled it in…and then gave it some slack and then reeled it in…and in no time, he had himself a fairly large river trout in the boat. “Well hello, fishie! When we get back and I talk about you, you’re going to be three or four times bigger than you really are…isn’t that FUN?!”

Ayla returned the infectious grin the Doctor gave her and nodded. "Yes. I hope you don't mind." She realized that it might be strange for these men to see a woman fishing. Women of the Clan didn't hunt, but they did help fish, so maybe it wasn't too bad. She wondered if they would be angry if she hunted. Jondalar hadn't minded, and had encouraged it. But, these men were not Jondalar.

She tilted her head slightly down when Miguel asked where she was from. Her home before she came here had always been difficult to explain. Others had names most people seemed to recognize, but when she said where she came from, they only looked confused, as if there should be more to it. She just didn't know any other way to say it.

"I lived in the Valley of Horses before I came here. In my cave in the cliff wall." She didn't know where New York was, and she didn't know where North Carolina was, either. And starship was far beyond her grasp. "What is a starship, John?" She had asked the question just as he began to reel in his catch and she stood up, walking over next to him to peer down into the water.

She watched the line grow closer and closer and a writhing shape beneath the water get bigger and bigger. "John! You caught one!" Ayla grinned at him. Her grin was broad and white, despite the lack of modern hygeine products. She cleaned her teeth with a frayed end of a stick and swished her mouth out with tea. The lack of foods that caused stained teeth also contributed to her pearly whites.

She returned to her seat and curled her legs under her once more. She enjoyed the feel of the sun on her back, shoulders and neck. She pulled her long blond hair around so that it exposed the skin of her neck to the warmth. This was enjoyable. Watching the men fish with the rods adorned with thin lines, and the hooks. It was fascinating, but she still preferred her method. It might take a bit more time, but it was fun and interactive.

She finished her sandwich, finding that it had tasted like fowl, though she couldn't put her finger on which one. She wasn't familiar with the modern turkey or chicken. She had always enjoyed Ptarmigan, and this meat had come close. The harder yellow substance was tangy and creamy at the same time, but she didn't have cheese in her time and wasn't sure what to call it. Altogether, the sandwich was very pleasing.

The Doctor perked up rather noticeably as Miguel started asking everyone where they were from, and telling his own story. “Oh! Rose? Rose Tyler, yeah? Pretty blonde girl?” he asked, grinning widely. “She’s my…” he didn’t mean to pause, and he certainly didn’t mean to actually think about it for goodness sakes. “She’s my friend, traveling companion type thing. We were brought here together,” he explained. “I’m… just a traveler, really. I was in London, 2012 olympics! We were planning on heading to see these mineral lakes but… well, you know how it goes. The planet hijacked us mid-flight!” he grinned.

The Doctor grinned widely at John, nodding in agreement as he suggested the heat had to be getting to him. Still, the Doctor’s clothing seemed to act as a sort of shield, but whether it was stopping people getting too close or stopping all his own emotions from flooding out was up for debate. Either way, the Doctor made no move to remove any layers. “Nipples develop before the sex of the baby is determined,” the Doctor said, not really picking up on the fact that the other man might be joking.

The Doctor raised an eyebrow as Ayla asked John what a starship was and glanced over at Miguel. “Best not tell her about my time machine for a little while, then!” he whispered to him, giggling a little. He gave John a round of applause and decided it was probably time to cast his own line… not that he expected anything would happen for a long time.

Galaxy? Miguel spun around in his seat to look at John. Was the man kidding? He was laughing but it seemed to Miguel that he was serious. “Yeah, mind blowing”, Miguel murmured in agreement before he was startled by John’s sudden caught. The Latino laughed as John talked to fish. “We’ll remember how big he really was”, the prisoner promised him.

Ayla’s answer to Miguel’s question was equally baffling. He had never heard of the valley of the horses but when she said cave it was like a light went off over his head. Ayla was from the past, way back in the past which explained her preference for animal skin clothing, fishing with her bare hands and the way she acted. ‘Holy shit, I’m fishing with an actual cave woman’, Miguel mused. Hard to believe but so was everything else here. ‘She’s not at all like what I thought cave people were like’, he silently added.

The Doctor turned out to know who Rose was and that too made a light go off in Miguel’s head. Rose had mentioned her traveling companion who Miguel had assumed was some kinda boyfriend although both of them seemed hesitant to admit that. When the Doctor said he had arrived from 2012, Miguel was impressed but not too fazed by the time difference. If he could accept that Ayla was from the past, it was easy to believe the Doctor was from 2012.

The Latino cast his line once more. “Now if I get some of John’s luck rubbing off on me”, he said out loud. “Maybe I’ll get the one that got away”.

When Ayla came over to praise his catch, John stared into her big blue eyes and seemed to be caught there for a moment. Her smile was infectious too, causing him to smile in return, "Well, it's not as impressive as the way you fish, little lady, but I'm happy!", he replied modestly.

Going back to her earlier question, he chewed his lip for a moment and studied her naturally beautiful face. Ayla may be a cavewoman, but she was incredibly bright, in John's opinion. He considered how to explain a starship to her. "A starship is something my people ride in, Ayla...like this...", he patted the side of the boat, "...this boat we are in is a 'ship'....and our ship has a top on it, it's covered...", he pointed atthe sky, "and we ride among the stars you see in the night sky".

John startled Miguel with his talk of starships and far off galaxies, but he was sure that the Doctor wasn't the least bit fazed...as a matter of fact, the Doc could probably curl his toes with a few stories. Joining in with their conversation, John chuckled, "Oooh Hoo! So Ol Doc here has himself a young chickie, eh, Miguel?". He winked at the Latino man as he was placing his fish in the cooler. "Holding out on us, Doc?", John teased, "Tell us about the mysterious Lady Rose".

Teasing the Doctor was all in good fun...he was a nice man and scary intelligent, but John's attention turned to Ayla...the sun was playing off her long blonde hair and tanned skin...what a natural beauty she was...so sweet and innocent. Before he realized it, his chest was heaving...he was sitting still, yet taking deep breaths...this woman was 'pushing all his buttons' and he wanted to know more about her, "So, ummm, Ayla...In the Valley of Horses, did you have a man...a mate?".

She looked back at the Doctor when he giggled, his whispered words lost to her ears. She gave him a small smile before turning her attention to Miguel as he spoke about John's luck and getting the fish that had gotten away from him. She grinned. "I am sure you will get him this time, Miguel." She had a little trouble with the pronunciation of his name. Her speech impediment saw to that, but she got it right for the most part.

She returned her attention to John, catching herself gazing into his eyes. He broke the contact and she shook her head, wondering what it had been to make her look a man in the eye like that. She shook her head and smiled sheepishly. She sat down on the bench near him and looked up at him while he took his fish off the line and then began to explain a starship to her.

Her big blue eyes widened with the explanation. "You can fly among the stars?" She was incredulous. How was that possible? Was he some sort of mog-ur? Could he fly through the stars in his spirit form? She didn't really understand, but she hesitated to ask him to explain further. She took him at his word, as the only thing she could do.

She looked down at her hands, neslted in her furred lap when John began to tease the Doc about his friend, Rose. She smiled, wondering slightly about her feelings just then. She shook her head again, realizing that it wasn't a good time to think about it. She chewed on her inner cheek and then realized belatedly that John was speaking to her again.

She looked up again, shielding her eyes with her hand, squinting slightly. She was silent for a moment after the question. "I had no mate." She spoke truthfully. There had been a man, yes. Jondalar. But, nothing had been established between them. They had made pleasures a few times, and she had found herself wanting to stay with him... wanting him to stay with her in the valley. But, Jondalar had been the first man of her kind that she had known, and it was inevitable that she would feel attracted to him. Now she was also feeling attracted to John.

Time seemed to stand still, but in reality it was passing quite quickly. Ayla watched as the men fished. She liked the way they were doing it, but she preferred her own way. It was easier, she thought. She reached up to pull her long blond hair behind her shoulders, tilting her face up to the sun. Leaning back against the side of the boat to bask in the warmth of the large yellow globe.

The Doctor had cast his line without a great amount of difficulty, and spent most of his time looking at it with an interesting mixture of curiosity and boredom. He really didn't understand why anyone would find it an enjoyable sport; he'd never been the type to stay in one place for too long, but then maybe he was missing out on something. This was the sort of life he could never have. He supposed he hadn't truly relaxed since his time at the Academy so many centuries ago. Romana would have approved of the planet kidnapping him; she would have said it was for his own good and refused to help him escape again. He scrunched up his nose in distaste, shaking his head slightly in confusion. "I don't think I'm a fan," he admitted.

His eyes grew a little wide as John started to ask him questions about Rose. "I... she... she's not mine, or anyone elses for that matter. She's very much her own woman," he said, with a knowing nod. Rose wasn't the sort of woman to be tamed, and he wouldn't have it any other way. "She's fantastic. Really, she is amazing. But she's... we're just mates. It's a bit..." he trailed off, about to use the dreaded word 'complicated', but deciding against it. "One hell of an age-gap. And we're not even the same species," he admitted.

He was very glad when his reel started spinning. "Oh, wow! Some action!" he grinned, moving to start reeling in his first catch of the day. And of the century, for that matter. He frowned slightly as he realised what he'd reeled in. "Well, John, looks like you do have something to boast about after all," he giggled, unhooking an even smaller fish. He paused for a second, pouting a little as the poor thing flapped about in his hand, and deciding that he didn't care what anyone's opinion was he flung it back into the water. "Hardly worth keeping," he gave as his explanation.

Suddenly realising his earlier remark when Ayla spoke, the Doctor was quick to explain his slip of the tongue. "Oh! When I said we were mates, I meant friends, by the way. Stupid modern lingo, very misleading!" he grinned widely.

Miguel smiled at Ayla's encouraging words, glancing at the blond before returning his eyes at the water. Even sitting at a small distance from the others, Miguel could still hear the conversation clearly and had to bit his lip to keep from laughing when John asked Ayla about a mate. It wasn't that his words were funny but it struck Miguel as funny because it was such a guy thing to ask. See a pretty lady and find out if she had a husband or boyfriend.

All the men at Oz usually did the same thing anytime a new female employee came in. Miguel shooks his head, Like any of the prisoners would have had a chance. That wasn't exactly true, there were times when the male prisoners got to have sex with some of the female staff. Claire Howell for example but Miguel had never caught her eye and he was glad for that. Yes, he had missed being with a woman but there was no way in hell Miguel would have let that psycho touch him.

These were unpleasant thoughts for Miguel though so he shook them back and forced himself to focus on the fishing. Another smirk crossed his face when the Doctor brought up Rose, stammering that they weren't involved but also mentioning how amazing she was. Then the doctor said something that threw Miguel for a loop. "Not the same species?" He spun around to look at the doctor.

He looked human enough but then Miguel remembered what Rose had told him about the Doctor. He was about to question him just as the Doctor's reel started spinning. Miguel eyed the small fish and agreed with the Doctor. "Yeah, it's not even fully grown but what do you mean you're not the same species? Are time-lords a different species?"

John smiled when Ayla was so incredulous about him flying amongst the stars; he hated to admit it but he caught himself thrusting out his chest just a little. It was always nice to have a beautiful woman impressed by you. A beautiful woman like Ayla...one so special...she was 'special'...that's the word...special and so precious. John decided he needed another beer and to busy himself fishing.

"So, Ayla, you lived alone in the Valley of the Horses? There were no other people there?", John asked curiously, unable to believe a woman like her had no one.

Crichton chuckled as the Doctor got a bit flustered over all the teasing about his relationship with Rose. He held his hands up and soothed, "Just yankin' your chain, Doc, but don't cut yourself short...age is all in the mind...as long as she's legal...sh is legal, isn't she?", he gave the Doctor a pat on the shoulder, "You're a handsome fellow, Doc. If she's interested, go for it! My wife and I aren't the same species either...I'm human and she's Sebacean...", he shrugged, "...looks human on the outide, few differences inside".

When the Doctor caught a small fish and threw it back, John leaned over the edge of the boat and called, "Tell your daddy and his brothers to come back and see us!".

Sitting back down in the boat, John leaned back and looked over at Miguel, "Anyone special for you at home, Miguel? Wife, girlfriend...or...ummm...boyfriend?". He had started off rying to enjoy this litle fishing trip and now he looked at all of the people in the boat with him...Ayla...the Doctor...Miguel...each had a life and friends, family, people who knew them and counted on them...all of it taken away. They were all stuck here on this planet, not knowing what to do and they were just supposed to 'enjoy' themelves? Aw, Frell it...he didn't want to upset Ayla...he'd play along and break something later when he was alone.

Ayla watched the Doctor, his flustered demeanor and stammering words, and wondered what it was he didn't want everyone else to know. She smiled at him, nodding when he explained his definition of mates. "Language is a fascinating thing, isn't it? It is so complex and so wonderful. There was a time when I didn't know how to speak with anything but my hands." Subconsciously, Ayla had been signing with her hands as she spoke.

She watched him fling the smaller fish back into the water and smiled down at her lap. She didn't want him to think she was laughing at him. She was pleased that rather than keep a fish he wasn't going to eat, he returned it to its place. She planned to eat hers, though. Or, at least give part of them to the golems so that they wouldn't go to waste. Unless she dried the fish, she wouldn't be able to eat it all herself.

She listened as Miguel questioned the Doctor about his species. She didn't quite catch the drift of the conversation and the relevance of the question, but she wanted to understand and sometimes listening was the only way to accomplish that. She tried not to look their way as they spoke. She had been told that eavesdropping, or looking at someone else's hearth, was rude and she didn't want to be rude. So, she just kept her ears open.

She tilted her head back up when John spoke to her again. She shook her head slightly before she answered. "I lived there alone for a long time. Three years, I think. And then one day, I was exploring a part of the valley I had never been to before when I heard a man scream and Baby roar. Whinney and I raced to the sound and found two men badly hurt and Baby was there. He had seriously gored them, and broken one's neck. I pushed Baby away from the one who still lived. The man with hair the color of my own. The first man I had ever seen who looked like me, and not like the Clan. Whinney carried the man back to my cave where I cared for him until he was well. His name was Jondalar." She looked down at her fingers twisting together in her lap. "We were going to leave the valley and find other people of our kind when I was pulled here. But, until Jondalar, there were no other people in my valley. Just animals."

Ayla could not lie. She could only refrain from speaking. But what she had said, was the truth. The whole truth. She looked up again and gave him a small smile. "I have met a good many of the Others since I arrived here. But no Clan." She listened to John explain to the Docto about differences in species, and he mentioned his wife. Ayla wasn't quite sure what that word meant, but she understood from the inflection in his voice that it was someone who meant a great deal to him. She smiled and looked out across the water. She was glad John had a mate. He was such a kind man, he deserved one. A good one.

She had spoken much more on this trip than she had since her arrival. She wasn't sure it was such a good thing, but she couldn't take it back now. She just listened again as John asked about anyone special in Miguel's life.

They fished for quite a bit more time, but soon it was time to head back. The sun was sinking lower in the sky and they had all the fish they wanted or needed. Ayla stood up and began to clean up a few things as the boat headed back toward the dock. She gathered trash and shoved it in a bag set aside for it, then helped the men put their tackle and things back in the boxes. By the time they reached the dock, Ayla was tired and ready to go back to her cave of a room.

"It was nice to meet you, Doctor, Miguel, John." She nodded to each of them in turn as she stepped onto the dock and headed off with both of her fish in hand.

When Miguel queried the Doctor's humanity, he couldn't help but give him a wide grin, rather pleased that he had remembered the name of his species, presumably from something Rose must have said to him. "Yeah. I'm from an obscure little planet called Gallifrey. We sort of... maintain the order of the universe. Which sounds really bloody pretentious," he laughed, casually using the present tense. Sometimes it was nice to be able to pretend, just for a moment, that he wasn't the last of his kind. "Didn't maintain the order of this planet too well, apparently," he added, quirking his eyebrow with a slight air of amusement.

The Doctor perked up quite considerably as John spoke to him again. His eyes grew a little wide as he questioned whether or not Rose was legal; according to the law of his people, his mingling with a lesser species such as a human would have had severe penalties for both parties involved. But then John couldn't possibly know that, and it wasn't as if there was anyone around to stop him anymore. After a couple of seconds John's true meaning dawned on him. "Oh! Yes! She's nineteen. I think. It's hard to keep track. We don't exactly follow a linear timeline," he tried to explain, although it may have sounded like absolute nonsense.

He was certainly intrigued by the idea that John's wife was a different species. Of course, the Doctor was well aware that humans had been mingling with other species practically from the moment they knew they existed... but it was always a rather taboo subject among Time Lords. Mind you, he'd always loved things that were taboo. "Mmm, appearances can definitely be deceiving!" he smiled; he still found it amusing when someone referred to him as 'young', for example. He really wanted to ask John about the complications he might have faced regarding his wife, he wanted details, he wanted a story of how he had overcome obstacles and let love conquer... but then, he supposed bombarding the man with personal questions might come off as more than a little creepy. "That's... that's something to think on," he settled on, giving John a little nod that he hoped conveyed some sense of gratitude.

He listened intently to Ayla's story, not fully understanding everything she was saying. He was curious as to what had brought her to the Valley, all alone, but then if she hadn't mentioned it perhaps it was a painful subject. He knew he wouldn't be too thrilled at explaining why he'd left his home planet. But then, if she had only been there for three years he didn't understand why she had never seen another like herself. "Hmm. Sounds like you have a journey of self-discovery ahead of you," he said kindly, not wanting to push her for too much information.

Despite his initial qualms about the situation, the Doctor found that he actually sort of enjoyed his fishing trip. The fishing itself was as dull as he'd imagined, but he was glad that he'd met the people. They didn't leave him any closer to finding an answer, but the Doctor loved to hear stories about humanity, and he was sure it would have been difficult to get such different people together and chatting under any other circumstances. Not that it excused the planet's childish behaviour, but the point stood.

"Right-o! I guess we are... well, I was going to say free to go, but I don't suppose that's entirely accurate!" he laughed. "Anyway, it was lovely to meet you all. No doubt I'll be seeing you around," he said, and although it was nice to know that he'd probably see his fishing buddies for a second time, it was rather depressing to think he'd be sticking around long enough just to happen upon them again. Nonetheless, the Doctor gave them as enthusiastic a smile as he could muster, giving them a little wave as he turned on his heels and started to bounce off to find out what had become of Rose.

Miguel had clearly fallen into unique company. A cave woman, a space man and a time-lord. The doctor’s description of his own world was impressive but it had Miguel wondering. How did they maintain order in the universe? Why were they chosen? But these were big questions that might come off as rude so Miguel decided to save them for another time. He was sure there would be one since the resort didn’t seem overly large.

“Me?” Miguel said after John asked him if he had anyone special. Not really, when he thought about. He did have a girlfriend when he first went to prison, a girlfriend who was carry his child and also got sent to jail but that was years ago. His son hadn’t survived very long and as for his girl…well, she hadn’t visited or called in long time. “I had a girlfriend but we’ve kinda drifted apart”, the Latino answered with a slight shrug. These things happened and Miguel wasn’t completely comfortable talking about it. Time moved on as the group fished until late afternoon. Miguel had little luck, only catching one small fish that he threw back.

Once they reached the dock, Miguel helped tidy up before saying goodbye to the others. “Thanks guys, it was nice meeting you all. Like the Doc says, I’m sure I’ll be seeing you around but I’m in room C127 if you ever wanna drop by or go fishing again” he told them as he climbed out of the boat.

John was fascinated listening to Ayla's story and watching her hands move all the while. How hard it must have been for her to be so alone...John's heart went out to her; he pieced together from what she old them that 'the clan' must be Neanderthal and 'the others' must be Cro-Magnon. Poor Ayla must have been so overjoyed to have discovered this Jondalar, a man of her own kind.
He smiled at her...she was so beautiful...just in this small amount of time, he'd become smitten with her...he was her kind too...did she see him as one of 'the others'?

The Doctor had the spotlight now, explaining his planet of birth...and John was stunned to find out he wasn't from Earth...and that his people kept the universe from going whacky. "Whoa, Doc! Pretty impresive credentials you've got there!", John commented. The stories this man could tell. The astronaut had a million questions for the Doctor, but, as they were heading back, he had no time for them now...maybe he'd catch up with him later and have a long talk.

John felt bad that he'd brought it up when Miguel answered that he and his girlfriend had 'drifted apart'. The shrug he'd given let John know it was probably a little more painful than the man was willing to let on. "Hey, man, her loss", John soothed, giving Miguel a pat on the back. This guy seemed like the kinda guy John could really chill with...he was glad to have met him.

As the boat pulled up to the dock, John smiled at them all and shared, "Well, I'm not a fan of forced activities, but I couldn't have been strong-armed in with a better group of people. It was great meeting you all...I'm in B212...feel free to stop by".
