Day 3- Fishing
Who: Ayla, John, The Doctor and Miguel
What: Fishing
When: Morning, after breakfast
Where: The Dock/The Lake
Rating: R for nudity
Status: Complete!

Ayla had decided to stay away from the foyer this morning. She didn't want the responsibility of greeting anyone else. It was too hard to explain to new people what had happened to them. There were others that did a much better job of it. Giselle made it look downright easy. So, Ayla figured if she didn't see the flashing light of the new keys, she didn't have to greet anyone.

She went through the back door of the kitchen for some breakfast, and then headed out to see about Whinney and Racer. Both horses nickered when she neared and she began to speak to them in a combination of verbal and sign language. "Good morning, Whinney." When she said the mare's name word, it came out as more of a horse whinney than a name. "Good morning, Racer." She patted the dark steppe horse on his neck and hugged both animals. Whinney was Racer's mother, and Ayla had raised them both.

She finished her breakfast and went back to her room to get some unfinished weaving to take out into the sunshine. That's when she noticed the envelope taped to her door. She opened it and, even though there was no written language in her world, Ayla found that she could understand it. She was to go fishing this morning. Looking thoughtful, she opened her door and left the envelope on the rock formation that looked astonishingly like an end table.

She decided that if she was going to make it down to the dock, she didn't have much time, and she wouldn't be able to finish the basket she had been weaving. She left her amulet in her room. She didn't want to lose it, believeing that if she did she would die. Heading down to the lake on barefeet and graceful steps she found the dock and a golem waiting there.

She saw a boat, although she'd never seen one before arriving in Mirage, with some long poles and a box. She shifted her blue eyes to the golem, knowing that it could only answer yes or no questions. She wasn't quite sure what to ask, though. "Are we supposed to use this for catching fish?" She pointed to the boat, and then looked up to see the Golem nodding. She nodded, too. She didn't know how to use a fishing pole and tackle, so she would do it her own way.

While Ayla dried off and dressed herself, John busied himself with preparing his rod and reel…he was tempted to take a peek or two as a flash of tanned leg or a wisp of blonde hair moved into his peripheral vision, but then the disapproving face of his beloved, ass-kicking wife, Aeryn Sun, came to mind and he smiled softly to himself and kept to the task at hand.

He noticed that Ayla had taken an interest in the fishing rods and hooks and he was about to offer her instruction on the usage of the tools when he noticed that she was watching Miguel. Maybe she kinda liked the guy and from what John could see, he seemed like an okay dude. No reason to go over and step on his toes then…the young astronaut decided he’d just stay over on his side of the boat and fish, leaving possible romance to take wing.

“Nipples?!”, Crichton exclaimed, “You thought I said, ‘We definitely have nipples, Doc’?”, he addressed the Doctor with an incredulous look, “I think you need to peel a few layers off, my man! The heat must be getting to you”, he chuckled. John was grinning largely as he tossed his line into the water…he was starting to see the reason for this fishing trip…he liked this little group and he may not have met them otherwise. “Tell me, Doc, “Why do men have nipples?”, Crichton asked ‘seriously’, “Myself, I use mine to locate my shirt pockets when I’m drunk…y’know, in case I want to put matches, a lighter, cigar, something like that in there!”.

When Miguel asked where they were from, Crichton smiled, “New York, eh! Big town, Miguel! I’m a country boy…from North Carolina, but I was taken from a galaxy from our own and far from here. I was actually with a crew of fugitives aboard a living starship in what they call the Uncharted Territories”, he smiled and blared his eyes, “Kinda blows your mind, huh?”, he chuckled.

Just as John was starting to relax and listen to the others, his line grew taut…he jumped up and gave it some slack and then reeled it in…and then gave it some slack and then reeled it in…and in no time, he had himself a fairly large river trout in the boat. “Well hello, fishie! When we get back and I talk about you, you’re going to be three or four times bigger than you really are…isn’t that FUN?!”
