Day 3- Fishing
Who: Ayla, John, The Doctor and Miguel
What: Fishing
When: Morning, after breakfast
Where: The Dock/The Lake
Rating: R for nudity
Status: Complete!

Ayla had decided to stay away from the foyer this morning. She didn't want the responsibility of greeting anyone else. It was too hard to explain to new people what had happened to them. There were others that did a much better job of it. Giselle made it look downright easy. So, Ayla figured if she didn't see the flashing light of the new keys, she didn't have to greet anyone.

She went through the back door of the kitchen for some breakfast, and then headed out to see about Whinney and Racer. Both horses nickered when she neared and she began to speak to them in a combination of verbal and sign language. "Good morning, Whinney." When she said the mare's name word, it came out as more of a horse whinney than a name. "Good morning, Racer." She patted the dark steppe horse on his neck and hugged both animals. Whinney was Racer's mother, and Ayla had raised them both.

She finished her breakfast and went back to her room to get some unfinished weaving to take out into the sunshine. That's when she noticed the envelope taped to her door. She opened it and, even though there was no written language in her world, Ayla found that she could understand it. She was to go fishing this morning. Looking thoughtful, she opened her door and left the envelope on the rock formation that looked astonishingly like an end table.

She decided that if she was going to make it down to the dock, she didn't have much time, and she wouldn't be able to finish the basket she had been weaving. She left her amulet in her room. She didn't want to lose it, believeing that if she did she would die. Heading down to the lake on barefeet and graceful steps she found the dock and a golem waiting there.

She saw a boat, although she'd never seen one before arriving in Mirage, with some long poles and a box. She shifted her blue eyes to the golem, knowing that it could only answer yes or no questions. She wasn't quite sure what to ask, though. "Are we supposed to use this for catching fish?" She pointed to the boat, and then looked up to see the Golem nodding. She nodded, too. She didn't know how to use a fishing pole and tackle, so she would do it her own way.

When Miguel queried the Doctor's humanity, he couldn't help but give him a wide grin, rather pleased that he had remembered the name of his species, presumably from something Rose must have said to him. "Yeah. I'm from an obscure little planet called Gallifrey. We sort of... maintain the order of the universe. Which sounds really bloody pretentious," he laughed, casually using the present tense. Sometimes it was nice to be able to pretend, just for a moment, that he wasn't the last of his kind. "Didn't maintain the order of this planet too well, apparently," he added, quirking his eyebrow with a slight air of amusement.

The Doctor perked up quite considerably as John spoke to him again. His eyes grew a little wide as he questioned whether or not Rose was legal; according to the law of his people, his mingling with a lesser species such as a human would have had severe penalties for both parties involved. But then John couldn't possibly know that, and it wasn't as if there was anyone around to stop him anymore. After a couple of seconds John's true meaning dawned on him. "Oh! Yes! She's nineteen. I think. It's hard to keep track. We don't exactly follow a linear timeline," he tried to explain, although it may have sounded like absolute nonsense.

He was certainly intrigued by the idea that John's wife was a different species. Of course, the Doctor was well aware that humans had been mingling with other species practically from the moment they knew they existed... but it was always a rather taboo subject among Time Lords. Mind you, he'd always loved things that were taboo. "Mmm, appearances can definitely be deceiving!" he smiled; he still found it amusing when someone referred to him as 'young', for example. He really wanted to ask John about the complications he might have faced regarding his wife, he wanted details, he wanted a story of how he had overcome obstacles and let love conquer... but then, he supposed bombarding the man with personal questions might come off as more than a little creepy. "That's... that's something to think on," he settled on, giving John a little nod that he hoped conveyed some sense of gratitude.

He listened intently to Ayla's story, not fully understanding everything she was saying. He was curious as to what had brought her to the Valley, all alone, but then if she hadn't mentioned it perhaps it was a painful subject. He knew he wouldn't be too thrilled at explaining why he'd left his home planet. But then, if she had only been there for three years he didn't understand why she had never seen another like herself. "Hmm. Sounds like you have a journey of self-discovery ahead of you," he said kindly, not wanting to push her for too much information.

Despite his initial qualms about the situation, the Doctor found that he actually sort of enjoyed his fishing trip. The fishing itself was as dull as he'd imagined, but he was glad that he'd met the people. They didn't leave him any closer to finding an answer, but the Doctor loved to hear stories about humanity, and he was sure it would have been difficult to get such different people together and chatting under any other circumstances. Not that it excused the planet's childish behaviour, but the point stood.

"Right-o! I guess we are... well, I was going to say free to go, but I don't suppose that's entirely accurate!" he laughed. "Anyway, it was lovely to meet you all. No doubt I'll be seeing you around," he said, and although it was nice to know that he'd probably see his fishing buddies for a second time, it was rather depressing to think he'd be sticking around long enough just to happen upon them again. Nonetheless, the Doctor gave them as enthusiastic a smile as he could muster, giving them a little wave as he turned on his heels and started to bounce off to find out what had become of Rose.
