Good Ending/Bad Ending meme
Do you get a happily ever after? Or a 'Rocks fall, everyone dies'? Why not both?

* Post your characters and set up two scenes. One with an ideal setting (They got what they always wanted, hit it big, became rich and famous, etc.) and one with a bad twist of events (They're homeless, everyone hates them, maybe they're even dying!).
* Others respond to one of the two settings (Or both in different comments, if they want!)
* Respond.
* ???
* Profit!!!

Just remember: no ending is set in stone, good endings can turn sour, and bad endings can be made better. Just see where it takes you and enjoy the ride!

Bruce Banner | The Incredible Hulk

Good Ending
He'd done it. Finally found the cure he was looking for. Bruce had his hands about glued to the chalk board where he had the formula written that would rid him of the Hulk once and for all.
It was so simple...Bruce almost had to steady himself to believe he had the answer right there under his fingertips. He might never stop smiling.

Bad Ending
He'd lost track of time since his capture. One couldn't tell day from night here in the cells of the Cube. General Ross's personal prison for him and other gamma monsters. He'd been chained here and tested on repeatedly. At first, Bruce had tried to warn them this was too dangerous to mess around with. After that didn't work, he'd tried to escape. The guards and mechanical processes in the cell had kept him from transforming. He had a sedative IV drip 24/7 that kept him dulled enough where he could never get angry.
Finally he just gave up altogether, laying on the cot with the manacles around his wrists having scarred them from the rubbing. Drifting between being half asleep and half awake. Even the Hulk's voice in the back of his mind had quieted to a worried sigh.
Bruce was certain to never get out of here.

Bad ending

At some point a young woman stumbled into the room as if she'd been pushed, landing heavily on her knees and shaking her head like she was trying to clear her vision.

She staggered to her feet after a moment, looking at Bruce and the cot and the room itself, but somehow not really looking at any of it as much as looking at something that was a nearer distance around it all.

"What's the probability factor?" A voice asked through the room's communication module. She shook her head, her voice strained, barely there, "I don't know." Whoever had asked gave her a moment to keep looking at whatever it was she was seeing before asking again, the same question: "What's the probability factor?"

She shook her head, a vague, half-circular movement, "I don't know. Astronomical. Too high."

Bruce opens bleary eyes to see the girl. It's a moment before he is cognizant enough to realize she isn't some drug induced dream.

He shifts and groans at the PA system voice, more out of annoyance than anything. "What new torture is this?" His voice thick but its apparent he does still have his wits about him.

Her eyes snapped to Bruce's face when he spoke, making a startled little sound in the back of her throat, apparently the fact that he was aware -if a little bleary- changed the probabilities, and that brought her focus more fully to him, brow furrowing as she tried to pick her way through the tangle.

Finally what she managed, voice shaky was: "Seven percent probability." She eyed Bruce for a moment longer, trying to sort out how she could tell him that the probability of his escape was actually higher than seven percent, but she couldn't give him the tipoff without outing herself as well, and she wasn't about to do that. Not until the probability was higher even than seventeen, which was where it was hovering right now.

He passes a hand over his eyes tiredly, the manacles jingling a bit. "Probability of what...? 'f it's escape, I can tell you that probability is zero." There's a bitterness to his words. He's never getting out of here, that much is certain.

Bruce squints over at her for a moment. "...surprised they let anyone in here with a monster..."

There was a short bark of a laugh at that, surprised and shaking her head a moment later, "Less than thirty percent probability." She was well out of reach, and now that she wasn't as groggy as she'd been when she was first shoved in she was feeling a little cheeky, that and she liked being useful. Well, to a certain value of 'useful', since it wasn't clear if her less than thirty was in response to his mentioning a monster or mentioning escape.

She had plans on getting out, but given as how she was usually shut up in a helmet to keep her in sensory deprivation these were long-term plans, now though, they'd inadvertently given her an ally, or at least something to think about while she was shut up on her own again.

It wasn't long before one of the white-coats came to haul her away again, they'd probably replicate the experiment in a few days.

Well that didn't make sense, but it did peak his curiosity. Bruce frowns, blinking to try and clear his vision of her. "How do you figure that?"

But they are taking her away already and another dose was being pumped into him. The room swirled back away as he tried to tell her to take care of herself.

And so his imprisonment continues...

She hadn't ever wished she had telepathy before, but she certainly did that night, at least, she presumed it was night, she wasn't sure how long it had been since she was outside, too long, that was all she knew. But she suspected it had been longer for him and she wished she could have been more comfort.

Some of them they wanted her to get probability of escape factors on had not only much higher probabilities, but much more destruction if they did get loose, but Bruce didn't belong there any more than she did, and she could see that.

It was a few days later that she was pitched into his room again, groggier than she'd been the first time, just stumbling and landing heavily on her side, grumbling as she levered herself upright again, dusting at her hands, "No." She glowered towards the door before the question could even be asked, knowing that they were watching.

This felt faintly of deja-vu. Bruce struggles to sit up, still tired but a bit more determined. "Who are you? Why do they keep tossing you in here?"

She'd been about to answer when whoever was outside asked the same question and she leveled her glower at the speaker box instead of the door itself: "It's the same, it's always the same, how can the prediction change if the variables don't?"

She shook her head, turning to Bruce then, knowing that she wouldn't have much time before they swooped in to take her away again, "I'm Lucy. They want to know what your likelihood of escape is, the same as they want me to predict for everybody."

There's a sad sort of smile back at her. "Oh. You'd think they had ironed out all the bugs by now...sorry, hard to think on this." He lifts his IVed arm slightly, rattling his chains again. "Wish I could escape. But...maybe I belong in a cage." The only thing he had left was he didn't want them making any more like him. No more Hulks out there causing destruction.

A quick little grin as she inched closer, "Between you and me? They're worried that you'll build up an immunity." That was all it took to have another lab-coated technician storming into the room to wrangle Lucy, though she was laughing even while they got her noise-and-sight blocking headpiece on, "I changed your variables for you, bastards, ask me again tomorrow!"

His eyes widen at that. It's almost like you can see the Hulk way down deep in them, grabbing onto that slim chance...and smiling.

Bruce on the other hand is a little frightened at the prospect. He doesn't get a chance to ask her about it though as they start dragging her away again. "Wait, no! Let her go!" It's the most he's moved since he first got here but Bruce struggles to his feet to get to the end of his leash, pulling on the manacles as they try to dose him again. He goes down on one knee but tries to reach for her anyway.

It's a double dose before he goes down, unconscious. This doesn't bode well for his captors.

It was almost a week before they let her at him again, and she went down hard, blinking blearily as if she'd only just had the helmet taken off outside the door, which was probably true. She was nursing a bruised cheek, faded now to a mottled yellow. She moved gingerly, rolling first to her knees and then to her feet, brow furrowed and lips moving, as if she were reciting something under her breath.

"Thirteen." She said almost as soon as the PA sparked on so the doctor could ask the question, "Told you I fixed them." She sounded tired more than anything, resigned.

He's had time to think about what she said since then. Bruce wasn't sure she would be allowed back after that. This time, he doesn't dare move, not wanting to be dosed again. He didn't like the look of that bruise. In fact, he made an effort not to look at it, not wanting an anger reflex to up his heart rate.

"Can I ask your name? You visit everyone here? Or am I a special case?" Getting his questions out while he could.

"I'm Lucy. And they do throw me at everyone here, most of them aren't as personable as you are." She turned her head towards the door for a moment, expecting their conversation to be interrupted again. There was another fading bruise across the side of her neck, looking almost as if someone had had her by the throat.

"They need me." She said with a shrug, turning back, "I can see everything that might happen." Another shrug, "Most things, anyway."

Give him a moment, he may be a genius level scientist but his thoughts are trying to swim upstream against the drugs. "....you can see what might happen?" Which the probabilities would make sense now.

"If someone flipped a coin, you could call it every time?" How much had they told her about the types of people here?

They hadn't told her much at all, but she'd figured out a little on her own. She nodded at the question, "More than 90 percent of the time, yeah. I'm not infallible, but I'm close."

She chewed at the corner of her lip, still trying to sort out how to give him information without the staff realizing it, "But what you have to remember, the part they don't seem to understand, if the variables stagnate, so do the chances. Things have to change to get a different answer."

"Not you, of course not.....not you..." He shifts a little uncomfortably. "....don't think you know how bad it could get if I did try to get out of here." He never likes hulking out, it's like pouring noise into your brain, working in overdrive, and he can never remember completely what he actually did while he was the Hulk.

But it was either that or spend the rest of his life here hooked up to a machine. Not a pleasant choice.

Bruce tenses for a second when the door opens, thinking she was going to be dragged out again. His heart rate spikes and triggers another release of sedative and he groans, thunking his head back against the wall.

"See you later..." he mumbles through the haze spreading across his vision. It was almost like he was getting used to it.

She smiled, quick and sharp and much more like she'd been the first time, "Count on it."

It was a few nights later, sometime well after lights out, that she returned, slipping into his cell with that same crooked grin, giving a low whistle to get his attention.

This he hadn't been expecting. His eyes open almost immediately at the whistle before he frowns in confusion. Sitting up as quietly as he can so as not to jangle his chains. "What...how did you get in here?" he whispers, not sure if they can be heard or seen. Presumably there was a camera still in here.
