WHO: Skye & Grant Ward
WHAT: Sometimes we do bad things for the people we care about. And sometimes Stark Industries Security frowns on people leaving the premise who weren't supposed to.
WHEN: A few days after this
WHERE: Avengers Tower
RATING: TBD
Getting past the living security had been a breeze. Guards were always so focused on one thing that if you were able to exploit their blind spots, you didn't even have to worry about them being alerted to your presence. Ward knew that the second he stepped off the Avengers floors, JARVIS would likely sound an alert to the team, tell him that he'd slipped the perimeter that he'd been restricted to and that he was likely up-to-no-good given the equipment he had with him, most of which he'd managed to collect from the various disused rooms that he'd stumbled across.
But none of that had really mattered as far as Ward was concerned. He knew it would likely color him in the eyes of the Tower, make him seem questionable, and maybe even lead them to wonder whether or not Clint's word on him 'behaving' was really valid, but he could make things up to Clint later. Ward knew that once he explained, the other man would understand. More than. It was just whether the others would or not.
It had taken him several phone calls and one questionable internet source (a friend of a friend of a friend) to get the information that he'd needed, but once he had it in hand, there was no real reason to hesitate. Sending a quick text to Skye with the details she would need, he'd taken a deep breath and broken the perimeter of the Tower, praying that no one would stop him before he got out of the door all the way down. As luck would have it, though, he made it into the lobby and out into freedom without anyone so much as saying a word to him.
It was nearly five hours before Ward reappeared on the radar with another quick text to Skye as he turned into the carpark around Avengers Tower. Come downstairs was a rather major request, given everything, but as he stepped out of the van, he felt pretty confident it would be worth it.
That was, until Stark Industries Security surrounded him, weapons drawn, demanding that he put his hands behind his head. Thanks, JARVIS. Thanks a lot.
