If Spike had known, he would've been just mildly disappointed at the missed opportunity for hilarious mocking. Skipping the vampire costume was probably the right call, in the end, for many reasons. Spike isn't dressed up either — this is his day off — but that doesn't mean he can't take in the atmosphere over a walk and a warm cup of blood.

Spotting Jack, he tenses. Their last meeting ended weirdly and abruptly and he's not really looking forward to the discussion that'll inevitably follow.

Looking at Spike, he's quite glad he didn't go for the vampire costume. Well, except for the fact that poking a bit of fun at 'classic' vampires might have been a good ice-breaker. He's not really looking forward to the talk either.

But these things have to be done, so he sets aside the pumpkin he's been attempting to carve a face into out of sheer boredom, and gives the vampire a deliberately leering once-over.

"I see you came as yourself too," he grins. "Why bother dressing up for Halloween when you're a vampire already, eh?"

In a way, he's glad Jack broke the ice but on the other hand this means he can't slink off and avoid this for a few more days. Shrugging, he attempts a nonchalant swagger, hands in his pockets. It's not very convincing.

"Usually take tonight off, me. It's a tradition."

Has he ever talked to Jack about that? Probably not. Ianto was always the one more keen to hear about his exploits.

He grins. "Of course they do. I was just trying to suss out the reasoning behind it. Christmas armistice makes a lot of sense.

"But honestly..." He waves an arm round at the pumpkins, ranging from amazing to his own inept attempt, the apple bobbing, the Jersey Devil with tail, the bots patiently waiting not far away to paint people's faces... "You don't find this all rather tame? I do, and I'm not even someone in the business of scaring people for a living!"

It was worth a try.

As for the display, he takes a moment to look around and take it in, really think about what he feels about all this because for some reason he hasn't yet. It's always just been a thing, nothing worth analyzing, but if talking about it can keep Jack off his back with the other thing, then he's more than willing to indulge.

"Not too sure they're really trying to scare anyone here, Jack." But if they are, yeah, lame attempt. "It's all a bit... nostalgic. You've noticed the too real costumes?"

Even with the soul he can't help but smile at the memory. That was a fun night, right up until the end of it.

"Don't look like they're quite as realistic as those costumes were, though. Unless you've seen some real ghouls and goblins scurry around."

"Janus, huh?" He's not particularly hot on his Greek mythology, but Janus, with his two faces looking into the past and the future - oh yes, he's aware of him! He can actually believe there might be people who worship him.

"Well, Nico's a ghost and Kanji is Frankenstein's monster, but they both seem to be themselves otherwise and not a threat to anyone. I take it that wasn't the case with your guy?"

Yeah, Jack's had his share too of waking up of a morning and wondering just what's going to greet him this time. He strongly suspects their captors have a good deal of fun things left to do to him.

"I try not to agonise too much over anything, really," he grins, because hey, life's too short, even if it's eternal!

Except that occasionally there are things you do actually have to address, and this brings one of those to mind.

"So, now that we've got the niceties out of the way, do you want to talk about whatever the hell happened the other night at the arcade?"

Spike takes a drag off the cigarette, releasing the smoke in a restless, nervous fashion. He'd rather fight it out and forget about it but that doesn't work in the long run, not even with Jack. It's frustrating, is what it is, having to use his big boy words and actually talk about his feelings.

Hell, they'd both rather just fight or fuck it out, but yeah, that's not what they need here. It's not at all easy for either of them, but Jack is absolutely determined to make this work and if this is what needs to be done? He'll do it.

He watches Spike, momentarily transported back to the pleasure prison and Reid saying something very similar to him. Even though he senses that Spike's problem with him isn't quite the same as Reid's.

His mouth twists wryly. "I'm starting to get an idea." He lifts an eyebrow. "I make you lose control, and you don't like that, right?"

Which is the problem, really. Before the soul he wouldn't have cared as much if he accidentally or intentionally killed Jack in the process, but now? He can't risk it. If it means them never getting this tension worked out then so be it. The price is too steep.

It's certainly not the first time in his long life that someone's found him just too much, but he can't remember the last time or how (if) he managed to overcome it. But he's nothing if not determined, and he's not going to just give up on this. Not when it's something that could bring them both (and Ianto) so much pleasure.

"Not much I can do about the pheromones, I'm afraid, but... Well. I don't know how to help you stay in control, but there are ways of making sure you can't hurt me if you lose it."

	It's fucking ridiculous that he even has this problem around Jack. He's gotten high off Slayer blood before but this is like concentre, too potent to handle more than in small doses and this without even biting. It's frightening. It's kind of gratifying in a way, even if it's incredibly frustrating in another!

"Chains? A spell? Or just having someone else around." He leans back in his chair, folding his arms, working on the problem.

"Basically, what it comes down to is that someone has to stay in control. If it's not you, then it needs to be me - or someone else." His lips twitch. "It's not like we don't have someone else on hand, after all."

That all sounds good on paper, but Spike can already see the problems cropping up. Chains strong enough to hold him wouldn't really read sexy as far as he's concerned. More like torture and he's pretty sure that's not the route Jack wants to take. Spell seems even trickier — does he have to be brainwashed into this? Who would they involve? One of the lit'le witches that helped in putting the soul back in him? Not to mention messing with magic is asking for trouble, even if you're ready and willing to go through that.

"I could kill you both before you even knew I lost it." So no, having Ianto on guard is a no go, especially in such a distracting, unguarded moment. "I think you're coming at this too big, anyway. We need safety measures, not a bloody production."
