And you did that on your own?

[ Rean realizes how that must sound and quickly adds: ]

In my world, we use orbments to perform what we call orbal arts. What you did kind of reminded me of that. Maybe not the exact thing but just in general.

My orbment didn't make it here, though.

It's just something I can do, yeah.

[Don't worry, he takes no offense. Instead he seems a little curious]

A weapon? What does it look like? [Apart from like an orb. . . ?]

The orbment itself isn't a weapon. I had a tachi, though. Anyway, my ARCUS unit is about this big [ He makes a gesture for something that's about as big as the palm of his hand. ]. It's a case with slots to put quartz in.

Quartz are basically crystals that either help strengthen us or let us use orbal arts.

[You totally lost him, Rean.]

That sounds like magic. . .

That's one way of putting it.

[ It probably is. And if he could, he'd show Kazuki too... ]

[He's a little hesitant with his words after that.]

What is it really used for, then? Are— [stalling again] Is your world at war?

[ Kazuki's question has Rean pausing. Of course it dredges up memories of his last memories in his world. There was a civil war brewing in his country, no doubt about it. Erebonia must be at war by now, especially with how the noble faction had pretty much taken over the capital...

Anyway, ultimately, he shakes his head. It's not the world... just his country. ]

No, not really. I mean, my country's probably not in a good place right now but we use orbal arts for daily life. It's not just for fighting.

[ And then he realizes, how would a world be at war? Something about that wording has Rean wondering just a bit. ]

[Kazuki belatedly realizes that wasn't the most polite question to ask. He knows he wouldn't especially like to be faced with it, even while it's only a fact of life back home. It has been for such a long while, even though the past two years things have been more peaceful. Nothing is perfect, and they will always be on their guard, but it's more than they've had in years.]

What kinds of things can it do, then?

[Sorry, more questions. . .]

Let's see... there are trains, cars, airships, all sorts of machines people use in daily life that are run by orbments.

[ Rean's got to admit, talking about his homeland is a bit nice. So he doesn't mind the questions one bit. ]

That's rather impressive. Our transport methods are fueled by the usual gasoline, or electric run.

[Not that he's ever been on a real train, though definitely the first two. Fafners are especially different however.]

I think I've heard of gasoline before, but orbal arts are just more accessible in my world.

And yeah, it is a bit impressive. We've got a railway system that covers the whole country too.

[The idea of such honestly pleases him. The curiosity along with it almost childlike.]

That sounds fun. I've never been on a train before. It must really allow you to take in many sights.

Yeah, it does. It does take a while sometimes, though.

And you don't have trains in your world, Kazuki?

We don't. [Not counting the underwater Bahnzweck.] The island is very small, so there isn't especially a need for them. There's cars, and we walk or bike to get around.

An island region, huh? I guess I can't relate much. Erebonia's pretty big.

Tatsumiya Island, in Japan, on the planet Earth.

[It doesn't matter that presently they all live on Watatsumiya (nor that technically Japan is actually no more). Tatsumiya is his real home. Yet. . . "home" is also more so the people he's surrounded by.]

I haven't heard of Tatsumiya Island or Japan... earth is an quartz element, though.

[ It makes Rean laugh a bit. Kazuki's world is most certainly different from his... ]

[Neither surprises him. Especially in regards to the island, seeing how even someone from Japan wouldn't recognize it for reasons.]

Does it do anything?

[Like the orbal arts he was speaking of?]

Well, it's more: earth is usually associated with defensive arts like 'Earth Wall' and 'Stone Needle'?

[ Rean rubbed the back of his neck with his uninjured arm... ]

I'm probably not making too much sense.
