Jack stares at him, frustrated and increasingly bewildered. "What?" he demands again, and then sighs, moving back to the wall himself, at least, even if he can't convince Spike to follow him. He swats at a wasp and giggles again, for no apparent reason, which is equally bewildering and worrying. What the fuck is going on?

"Spike, get out of there," he says urgently, watching the giant wasps hovering and darting around Spike's head. They're coming for him again, too, and he instinctively throws up an arm to ward them off, forgetting that it's not covered with thick wool as it usually is but unhelpfully bare. He feels another sting and gasps as he feels the venom go through him. "I'm trying to stop you getting killed!" he gasps, his own skin prickling much like Spike's is, and even as he says it he abruptly he finds himself wondering why he's trying to help this man. Let Spike get himself killed. Who knows, it might stick? And then his problem would be solved.

"I'm dead already, you moron!"

His voice cracks a bit from the strain of keeping his attention on both the wasps and Jack and where he previously felt about as safe as he ever was fighting back to back with Angelus, he's now very exposed. He can't stay here. There's no reason for him to stay here.

"You're not trying to stop me from getting killed, you want me to lower my guard! That's what you do, isn't it? I'm not falling for that!"

He starts to back away, swatting at the wasps as he goes.

"Don't be stupid," Jack spits back at him, in pain from the stings, and starting to feel decidedly hot too, which all adds to his irritation. "Go on. Let yourself get stung if you want to!" Another giggle erupts, ruining any hope he had of sounds the more grown-up of the two of them. He starts to edge along the wall towards a doorway, slashing at wasps as he goes. "If you end up covered in stings, maybe Ianto will think twice about wanting to shag you again!"

"Oh yeah? His standards can't be that high if he keeps shagging you! Oh wait - he isn't."

Okay, it's time to get out of here. The wasps aren't helping and although there's a significant increase in distance between himself and Jack, he no longer feels safe around him. Something will happen. This is a trick, to get him to lower his guard and before he knows it he'll be nothing but a pile of dust on the ground. Finally he turns on his heels, bolting into the darkness.

That outburst leaves Jack almost speechless, so Spike's almost gone by the time he manages to come out with even a "Fuck you!" to yell after him - barely even aware of the irony of such a remark given what they were talking about mere minutes before.

He's half-relieved, half-worried by Spike's departure. On the one hand, he can relax and run inside to get away from the damn wasps, but on the other, who knows where Spike's going? That's not a concern that's going to grow any less as the day (if you can call it that when it's pitch dark outside) wears on.
