DAY 365 — Anniversary Festival Mingle

Happy Day 365, Marina Nova!

Hear ye, hear ye! Inmates, prisoners, fellow underwater dwellers! Lend me your ears and hands and actually just bring all of you because we're having a ye olde Renaissance Faire to celebrate a full year in this bubble under the sea!

The dome has of course been decked out appropriately. Flickering torches light the pathways, interspersed with larger bonfires that you can cosy up to with that special someone - or perhaps just a glass of honey mead. Pennant banners hang across the gates and along the buildings, sporting the proud coat of arms of the prison (a lot of purple and octopi, for some reason) and many of the clothing stores offer time-appropriate options for those of you who still knows how to have fun. The kiosk has even been re-imagined into a castle.

Many areas within the dome has activities to partake in and, if you're skilled or lucky or both, prizes to win!

Sector 5 Gamegrounds: What better way to show your bravery than by participating in a series of tests of strength and cunning? Sector 5 provides the inmates with a chance to try such varied sports as varpa, caber tossing, ring toss or the very dignified sport of rövkrok, a type of wrestling that requires skill as well as no sense of shame. Not tough enough for you? There are also friendly foam weapons and armor available for those who want to engage in a chivalrous bout of hand to hand combat, test your archery skills — or maybe convince another prisoner to give you a piggyback ride and go jousting!

Competitors that do well enough and show outstanding bravery may be rewarded with a handful of rehab points, or a personalized pennant — or maybe a kiss from the lord or lady of your choosing!

Less violent activities: Not into skewering your neighbors on spears? Maybe you'd rather relax with a game of knucklebones, pick up sticks or Nine Men's Morris. Boards and instructions are readily available in several areas. If you're more creatively inclined there's also activity tables on offer where you can create your own coat of arms, bind yourself a flower crown or learn the art of illumination.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. Whole roasted pigs and poultry, wild rabbit in plum sauce, thick beef stews smelling of rich saffron, roasted vegetables (no potatoes here, no sir!) and cream-stewed cabbage for the vegetarians among us. If you're still hungry there's saffron pancake, ginger and clove cookies or bread pudding with raisins for dessert. There's plenty of mulled wine, honey mead, foaming beer, honeyd applewater and lingonberry juice to wash it down with. Enjoy!

Dance: As is custom, there will be a dance at the beach at the end of the day. Great fires will roar and a band of robots will strike up music suitable for dancing! Dress up in your finest satin and velvet, brush the extrement off your shoes and grab a partner!

Enjoy!

I consider Zeno as a brother. So I am glad for that.

[All of them are important to him.]

We should be thanking you. I can tell that Zeno has learned much from you, Miss Kaya.

Um, from me? But he knows more things than I do, I think.

I would disagree. You both sound very much alike. Perhaps it is that your smile is infectious, but I can tell that there is much of you in him.

I-infectious? Can smiles infect people?

[Now she's worried she could've gotten Zeno sick by just grinning at him.

Okay, but stupidity aside, she thinks about the rest.]

Much of me in him... People who live together tend to act similar, though. And I was able to smile because he was there. Maybe there's much of him in me, too. Besides, he didn't call himself by name until...

[...until he was all alone again and he could've forgotten his name again. Until she died. Tears well up.]

[Lifting his hands up he shakes them!]

N-Not at all! I didn't mean...! I only mean that when someone smiles and laughs that happiness is passed onto others!

[Please do not worry. In fact none of them have become ill since being around her, he's not worried about her infecting them at all!]

It... just means that you have rubbed off on him, correct?

C-can it truly... [Sob. Sob.]

I really hope... Something good came... O-oh no, this is a party and I'm...

[She cleans her tears with her fingers.]

[Glancing around worriedly, he can't seem to find something for her to dry her eyes on. His heart is pounding, he made Zeno's wife cry. . .

At a loss, he finally reaches out to use his sleeve. It's all he has to offer.]

Please do not worry. [He assures her, wiping at the corner of her eyes.] I know that it is true. And whether it is a party or not one cannot help their emotions. There is no reason to feel embarrassed or ashamed. I do not mind.

[She shakes her head. She can't possibly stain his fancy outfit. She doesn't even use her own sleeves. His attempts only make her fret. What if the wardens get mad for ruining the clothes?]

Um... I... I'll make you... a crown... as an apology. I don't... I don't know... what else...

[After an embarrassed pause where she retakes her materials, she turns again to him.]

Are white flowers okay or would you prefer another color? Now that I think about it, that's like someone giving me something black because that's my hair color.

Any color would do. [Reassuring] While I wear a lot of white and some blue, I greatly enjoy all colors. Particularly in nature.

Will it? [Reaching out he picks up one of the purple flowers near him.] I am unaccustomed to wearing many colors outside of my traditional robes from home.

[Shifting he turns to her with a smile.]

I will trust in your judgement.

I don't know much about fashion though, I just thought it might look cute.

Well, everyone within the village wears these same robes.

[It's their thing.]

Admittedly, I do not know any fashion outside of what is worn in my village, either.

Even the women wear them?

[They must do laundry daily, with all that white.]

I just know what people wore in the village I grew up in. I imagine big cities and other towns wear different stuff, judging from the others' clothes.

That is right. [There's really no difference in their dress and attire.] The robes are gender neutral, and can fit comfortably for both. [Do you want some Hakuryuu village robes, Kaya.]

The clothing outside of my village is much more diverse I have noticed, too. From town to town, but from economic standpoints as well.

Ah. [Maybe just the cape. It looks so warm!]

Is Yona's skirt something noble people wear, then? [Since she's a princess, therefore the most socially important person Kaya knows.]

[SOMEHOW... he looks incredibly grief-stricken and sad]

The princess has disguised herself as a normal citizen of Kouka. S-So unfortunately, it is not her royal garb.

[But she certainly deserves all of the finest clothes and it is very much a tragedy that she has to hide herself even now back home!]

Sorry, I didn't know. [Oh no, she made him sad!] Um, she looks really pretty in that skirt, and it's probably more comfortable for trips to go simple.
