DAY 365 — Anniversary Festival Mingle

Happy Day 365, Marina Nova!

Hear ye, hear ye! Inmates, prisoners, fellow underwater dwellers! Lend me your ears and hands and actually just bring all of you because we're having a ye olde Renaissance Faire to celebrate a full year in this bubble under the sea!

The dome has of course been decked out appropriately. Flickering torches light the pathways, interspersed with larger bonfires that you can cosy up to with that special someone - or perhaps just a glass of honey mead. Pennant banners hang across the gates and along the buildings, sporting the proud coat of arms of the prison (a lot of purple and octopi, for some reason) and many of the clothing stores offer time-appropriate options for those of you who still knows how to have fun. The kiosk has even been re-imagined into a castle.

Many areas within the dome has activities to partake in and, if you're skilled or lucky or both, prizes to win!

Sector 5 Gamegrounds: What better way to show your bravery than by participating in a series of tests of strength and cunning? Sector 5 provides the inmates with a chance to try such varied sports as varpa, caber tossing, ring toss or the very dignified sport of rövkrok, a type of wrestling that requires skill as well as no sense of shame. Not tough enough for you? There are also friendly foam weapons and armor available for those who want to engage in a chivalrous bout of hand to hand combat, test your archery skills — or maybe convince another prisoner to give you a piggyback ride and go jousting!

Competitors that do well enough and show outstanding bravery may be rewarded with a handful of rehab points, or a personalized pennant — or maybe a kiss from the lord or lady of your choosing!

Less violent activities: Not into skewering your neighbors on spears? Maybe you'd rather relax with a game of knucklebones, pick up sticks or Nine Men's Morris. Boards and instructions are readily available in several areas. If you're more creatively inclined there's also activity tables on offer where you can create your own coat of arms, bind yourself a flower crown or learn the art of illumination.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. Whole roasted pigs and poultry, wild rabbit in plum sauce, thick beef stews smelling of rich saffron, roasted vegetables (no potatoes here, no sir!) and cream-stewed cabbage for the vegetarians among us. If you're still hungry there's saffron pancake, ginger and clove cookies or bread pudding with raisins for dessert. There's plenty of mulled wine, honey mead, foaming beer, honeyd applewater and lingonberry juice to wash it down with. Enjoy!

Dance: As is custom, there will be a dance at the beach at the end of the day. Great fires will roar and a band of robots will strike up music suitable for dancing! Dress up in your finest satin and velvet, brush the extrement off your shoes and grab a partner!

Enjoy!

I imagine there are others who would be glad to help out. Not that there's anything wrong with learning together.

I think both ways are fun! Just learning with people is fun, no matter how much they know.

It is, I agree. We're all learning about this place together, too, in one way or another.

I think so too. Be careful with that stem. [She guides him through the crown making a bit more.]

What's the most interesting thing you've seen or learned here?

Ah- [He blinks at his hands, noticing he was about to slip up.

It takes him a moment or so to consider her question.]

The library is super impressive! I'd never seen anything like it before. [Hm.] I know it's really basic, but, the food, as well. There's plenty here that I'd never heard of or tasted back home. [he grins a bit] I'm looking forward to learn how to cook everything that I'm able to.

...Kaya doesn't know what a library is, but I agree about the food! Every meal is a new experience, and I also want to learn how to cook those one day.

It's basically a large collection of books, of all types of genres, all in one place that people can rent for a few days at a time before returning them. Or you can also just stay there and read. And you should. Cooking can be fun.

Ah, I've heard of books! That's really nice of them, allowing people to read theirs. Those are hard to find where I come from.

It is. There aren't a great deal where I'm from, either, so visiting it has been nice.

...I think I'll go learn signs before I dare to go to the library. It seems like it's too advanced right now.

Well, there may be material there that aides in learning how to read. [If he's assuming correctly.]

[What on earth does he mean with "material"?] I think maybe even getting thereand not getting lost is too complicated to me. I want to take things easy, but I'll definitely go when I feel ready.

Oh, of course. Going at your own pace is important. And it's not as though the library is going anywhere, anyway.

But it's good that such a place exists for people who love books.

[She glances at the flowers.] Hmmm, there are so many colors it's hard to choose. Maybe one of each?

It is. [Said a bit fondly, as a certain person comes to mind.

He takes a look at them as well and can think of a few color combinations, although he's good with anything.]

That sounds good. [he smiles to her] You're the pro, here.
