DAY 365 — Anniversary Festival Mingle

Happy Day 365, Marina Nova!

Hear ye, hear ye! Inmates, prisoners, fellow underwater dwellers! Lend me your ears and hands and actually just bring all of you because we're having a ye olde Renaissance Faire to celebrate a full year in this bubble under the sea!

The dome has of course been decked out appropriately. Flickering torches light the pathways, interspersed with larger bonfires that you can cosy up to with that special someone - or perhaps just a glass of honey mead. Pennant banners hang across the gates and along the buildings, sporting the proud coat of arms of the prison (a lot of purple and octopi, for some reason) and many of the clothing stores offer time-appropriate options for those of you who still knows how to have fun. The kiosk has even been re-imagined into a castle.

Many areas within the dome has activities to partake in and, if you're skilled or lucky or both, prizes to win!

Sector 5 Gamegrounds: What better way to show your bravery than by participating in a series of tests of strength and cunning? Sector 5 provides the inmates with a chance to try such varied sports as varpa, caber tossing, ring toss or the very dignified sport of rövkrok, a type of wrestling that requires skill as well as no sense of shame. Not tough enough for you? There are also friendly foam weapons and armor available for those who want to engage in a chivalrous bout of hand to hand combat, test your archery skills — or maybe convince another prisoner to give you a piggyback ride and go jousting!

Competitors that do well enough and show outstanding bravery may be rewarded with a handful of rehab points, or a personalized pennant — or maybe a kiss from the lord or lady of your choosing!

Less violent activities: Not into skewering your neighbors on spears? Maybe you'd rather relax with a game of knucklebones, pick up sticks or Nine Men's Morris. Boards and instructions are readily available in several areas. If you're more creatively inclined there's also activity tables on offer where you can create your own coat of arms, bind yourself a flower crown or learn the art of illumination.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. Whole roasted pigs and poultry, wild rabbit in plum sauce, thick beef stews smelling of rich saffron, roasted vegetables (no potatoes here, no sir!) and cream-stewed cabbage for the vegetarians among us. If you're still hungry there's saffron pancake, ginger and clove cookies or bread pudding with raisins for dessert. There's plenty of mulled wine, honey mead, foaming beer, honeyd applewater and lingonberry juice to wash it down with. Enjoy!

Dance: As is custom, there will be a dance at the beach at the end of the day. Great fires will roar and a band of robots will strike up music suitable for dancing! Dress up in your finest satin and velvet, brush the extrement off your shoes and grab a partner!

Enjoy!

. . . To think it is a common place for so many others. [It's just bizarre.] I have been very fortunate in life, but even I am at a loss for most of the things found here.

Meanwhile to some, the concept of differing worlds and universes is as real to them as the sun in the sky is to us.

All there is to do is learn.

But you do not travel into the heavens and into these other worlds?

No. We do know of other planets, but there's nothing like space travel or the like at all where I'm from.

I am not sure that I understand what a planet is. [Even worlds. Just that it's 'another place that is difficult to reach.']

[How to even explain this. . .]

There's no end to space. We can look up and see the stars or the moon, but there's far more beyond that which we can't see. I guess the moon would be a good example: that's what a planet is like. A mass of rock and other substances in a spherical shape, except much bigger. There's a great deal of them, but we can't see them since they're so far away from us.

[Have fun being confused all over again, Kija. Sorry.]

[But the moon looks flat. And. . . ]

You... are saying that the moon is in space? And the moon is a planet. So there is... other moons? [Wha.... ] Does the moon not shine down at night from the heavens?

"Heaven" is usually more metaphorical. It really isn't something tangible.

[Someone who doesn't especially believe in that stuff. . .]

. . .Honestly, you may have better luck looking into the library. I feel whatever else I say will continue to confuse you.

Yes. I have found that there are many that do not realize the importance of the heavens. [It is a very sad thing indeed. But while it's clear he disagrees with that, he doesn't push it, either.]]

I will have to look at this... library, then.

[It really is best not to continue on with that subject.]

It's very expansive, but finding what books you're looking for isn't very difficult. The subject you'll want is 'outer space' or 'the universe.'

[/confuses more?]

[So there is a difference between space... and now there is an outer space? And when did 'the universe' come into it all and what is it? Another moon?]

Yes. Thank you...

[Yeah. This was a bad idea.]

Sorry I'm not the best at explaining this in more simple terms.

[Way, WAY more simple.]

I will simply look up this library.

I am sure that I will see you around again.
