DAY 365 — Anniversary Festival Mingle

Happy Day 365, Marina Nova!

Hear ye, hear ye! Inmates, prisoners, fellow underwater dwellers! Lend me your ears and hands and actually just bring all of you because we're having a ye olde Renaissance Faire to celebrate a full year in this bubble under the sea!

The dome has of course been decked out appropriately. Flickering torches light the pathways, interspersed with larger bonfires that you can cosy up to with that special someone - or perhaps just a glass of honey mead. Pennant banners hang across the gates and along the buildings, sporting the proud coat of arms of the prison (a lot of purple and octopi, for some reason) and many of the clothing stores offer time-appropriate options for those of you who still knows how to have fun. The kiosk has even been re-imagined into a castle.

Many areas within the dome has activities to partake in and, if you're skilled or lucky or both, prizes to win!

Sector 5 Gamegrounds: What better way to show your bravery than by participating in a series of tests of strength and cunning? Sector 5 provides the inmates with a chance to try such varied sports as varpa, caber tossing, ring toss or the very dignified sport of rövkrok, a type of wrestling that requires skill as well as no sense of shame. Not tough enough for you? There are also friendly foam weapons and armor available for those who want to engage in a chivalrous bout of hand to hand combat, test your archery skills — or maybe convince another prisoner to give you a piggyback ride and go jousting!

Competitors that do well enough and show outstanding bravery may be rewarded with a handful of rehab points, or a personalized pennant — or maybe a kiss from the lord or lady of your choosing!

Less violent activities: Not into skewering your neighbors on spears? Maybe you'd rather relax with a game of knucklebones, pick up sticks or Nine Men's Morris. Boards and instructions are readily available in several areas. If you're more creatively inclined there's also activity tables on offer where you can create your own coat of arms, bind yourself a flower crown or learn the art of illumination.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. Whole roasted pigs and poultry, wild rabbit in plum sauce, thick beef stews smelling of rich saffron, roasted vegetables (no potatoes here, no sir!) and cream-stewed cabbage for the vegetarians among us. If you're still hungry there's saffron pancake, ginger and clove cookies or bread pudding with raisins for dessert. There's plenty of mulled wine, honey mead, foaming beer, honeyd applewater and lingonberry juice to wash it down with. Enjoy!

Dance: As is custom, there will be a dance at the beach at the end of the day. Great fires will roar and a band of robots will strike up music suitable for dancing! Dress up in your finest satin and velvet, brush the extrement off your shoes and grab a partner!

Enjoy!

[Her cheeks continue to shine wet with tears, the pain in her heart manifested physically through each drop. There's nothing she can really do to stop it, even when she realizes it may be causing a scene. Instead, she takes comfort in the soft, gentle touch of his hand as it strokes her hair, and the beating of his heart.

With a breath, she does what she can to speak without her voice cracking.]

We should probably get away from the dance area...

Mm.

[It's all he replies with for the moment. With their hands still within the other, fingers loosely twined, he leads the way.]

We can leave the festival in general, too, if you'd rather.

[She gives a small shake of her head. If they simply leave, she'll only be given time to ponder over everything. Right now, it's nicer if she can just enjoy things and use it as a distraction.

After a moment she realizes that he probably didn't see her response, and finally opens her mouth to speak.]

No. That isn't necessary. I'd rather remain here.

All right.

[It's all he'll say on that. Even if he can't entirely read her mind (it's good he can't). Still, he leads them until they're completely off of the dancing area.]

Whatever you'd like to do is fine.

[Using a hand she lifts it up to scrub at her eyes.]

Mm... [There's nothing in mind. Simply that they should get away from where they had been before.] I just need a minute.

[Which is for the better. There shouldn't be a scene.]

Take all the time you need.

[Rubbing at her eyes, she tries to smile. What a stupid thing... getting worked up for nothing. Really, she feels silly crying like this right in the middle of a festival.]

I'm sorry about that, Zero. I'm fine, really.

[( No. You aren't. ) He wants to say, but won't. He knows that sort-of smile; how even if slight, she's almost forcing it more so than not.]

You don't need to apologize.

Even still. I'm embarrassed about breaking down here in the middle of a celebration. [She rubs the last of the liquid from her eyes, before chancing a glance up at him again.] Lets just have fun the rest of the evening, okay?

[His hand moves to settle atop her head.]

That sounds good to me.
