DAY 365 — Anniversary Festival Mingle

Happy Day 365, Marina Nova!

Hear ye, hear ye! Inmates, prisoners, fellow underwater dwellers! Lend me your ears and hands and actually just bring all of you because we're having a ye olde Renaissance Faire to celebrate a full year in this bubble under the sea!

The dome has of course been decked out appropriately. Flickering torches light the pathways, interspersed with larger bonfires that you can cosy up to with that special someone - or perhaps just a glass of honey mead. Pennant banners hang across the gates and along the buildings, sporting the proud coat of arms of the prison (a lot of purple and octopi, for some reason) and many of the clothing stores offer time-appropriate options for those of you who still knows how to have fun. The kiosk has even been re-imagined into a castle.

Many areas within the dome has activities to partake in and, if you're skilled or lucky or both, prizes to win!

Sector 5 Gamegrounds: What better way to show your bravery than by participating in a series of tests of strength and cunning? Sector 5 provides the inmates with a chance to try such varied sports as varpa, caber tossing, ring toss or the very dignified sport of rövkrok, a type of wrestling that requires skill as well as no sense of shame. Not tough enough for you? There are also friendly foam weapons and armor available for those who want to engage in a chivalrous bout of hand to hand combat, test your archery skills — or maybe convince another prisoner to give you a piggyback ride and go jousting!

Competitors that do well enough and show outstanding bravery may be rewarded with a handful of rehab points, or a personalized pennant — or maybe a kiss from the lord or lady of your choosing!

Less violent activities: Not into skewering your neighbors on spears? Maybe you'd rather relax with a game of knucklebones, pick up sticks or Nine Men's Morris. Boards and instructions are readily available in several areas. If you're more creatively inclined there's also activity tables on offer where you can create your own coat of arms, bind yourself a flower crown or learn the art of illumination.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. Whole roasted pigs and poultry, wild rabbit in plum sauce, thick beef stews smelling of rich saffron, roasted vegetables (no potatoes here, no sir!) and cream-stewed cabbage for the vegetarians among us. If you're still hungry there's saffron pancake, ginger and clove cookies or bread pudding with raisins for dessert. There's plenty of mulled wine, honey mead, foaming beer, honeyd applewater and lingonberry juice to wash it down with. Enjoy!

Dance: As is custom, there will be a dance at the beach at the end of the day. Great fires will roar and a band of robots will strike up music suitable for dancing! Dress up in your finest satin and velvet, brush the extrement off your shoes and grab a partner!

Enjoy!

"Oh come on, I'll be fine. Besides, I have my gallant knight to bring me home in case things go lopsided."

She wiggles the fingers on her left hand to indicate that she does, in fact, mean her darling, patient, lovable husband. Good lord is she lucky.

It's a moment before he cottons on to which gallant knight she's referring to, but once he does, he grins. "Fair enough, but let's try and leave you standing enough to enjoy the rest of the day, eh? I hear tell there may be dancing on the beach tonight!"

"Ooh yes, I wouldn't want to miss that!" Okay okay, any potential of her drinking to the point of unsteadiness just went out the window. Dancing is important.

"And you'll come, right? Save me a dance?"

"Do you think you even have to ask?!" he demands, waggling his eyebrows at her.

"Hey, I'm not about to take you for granted! You're practically as married as I am."

Gentle banter, they're practically siblings after all.

"Since when has being practically married stopped me dancing with anyone?" he asks, in all innocence about the fact that it's going to stop him dancing with Kitty later that day.

"Never, but that's not what I'm talking about." Like anything could stop him, ever. "I meant more... some nights, one person is all you ever want, even if it's just dancing."

That's such an adorable look on her face that he can't help but smile. "Yeah," he says softly. "I know what you mean."

The night after he came back with eighteen months' memories of having been without Ianto, for instance... if there'd been a dance that night, he wouldn't have had eyes for anyone else.

"Such a romantic." She gives him a playful punch in the arm. Boy, is she ever fond of these gay ex-neighbors of hers.

"Speaking of... see you tonight? I should probably find Ton."

"Of course," he grins, because of course he's a romantic - she didn't think all that flirting and charm was just put on, did she?

And because he's a romantic, he's happy to let her go off to find her lucky husband.

"Sure. I'll be along to sweep you off your feet later - for a few minutes at least!"

If it was, she doubts it'd be as effective as it is. You can only fake it for so long.

"For a few minutes. I'll see you tonight, Jack!"

She beams before making her way through the crowd to maybe challenge her semi-robotic husband to a game of something. Leg wrestling, tongue wrestling. She's sure they'll think of something.
