DAY 365 — Anniversary Festival Mingle

Happy Day 365, Marina Nova!

Hear ye, hear ye! Inmates, prisoners, fellow underwater dwellers! Lend me your ears and hands and actually just bring all of you because we're having a ye olde Renaissance Faire to celebrate a full year in this bubble under the sea!

The dome has of course been decked out appropriately. Flickering torches light the pathways, interspersed with larger bonfires that you can cosy up to with that special someone - or perhaps just a glass of honey mead. Pennant banners hang across the gates and along the buildings, sporting the proud coat of arms of the prison (a lot of purple and octopi, for some reason) and many of the clothing stores offer time-appropriate options for those of you who still knows how to have fun. The kiosk has even been re-imagined into a castle.

Many areas within the dome has activities to partake in and, if you're skilled or lucky or both, prizes to win!

Sector 5 Gamegrounds: What better way to show your bravery than by participating in a series of tests of strength and cunning? Sector 5 provides the inmates with a chance to try such varied sports as varpa, caber tossing, ring toss or the very dignified sport of rövkrok, a type of wrestling that requires skill as well as no sense of shame. Not tough enough for you? There are also friendly foam weapons and armor available for those who want to engage in a chivalrous bout of hand to hand combat, test your archery skills — or maybe convince another prisoner to give you a piggyback ride and go jousting!

Competitors that do well enough and show outstanding bravery may be rewarded with a handful of rehab points, or a personalized pennant — or maybe a kiss from the lord or lady of your choosing!

Less violent activities: Not into skewering your neighbors on spears? Maybe you'd rather relax with a game of knucklebones, pick up sticks or Nine Men's Morris. Boards and instructions are readily available in several areas. If you're more creatively inclined there's also activity tables on offer where you can create your own coat of arms, bind yourself a flower crown or learn the art of illumination.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. Whole roasted pigs and poultry, wild rabbit in plum sauce, thick beef stews smelling of rich saffron, roasted vegetables (no potatoes here, no sir!) and cream-stewed cabbage for the vegetarians among us. If you're still hungry there's saffron pancake, ginger and clove cookies or bread pudding with raisins for dessert. There's plenty of mulled wine, honey mead, foaming beer, honeyd applewater and lingonberry juice to wash it down with. Enjoy!

Dance: As is custom, there will be a dance at the beach at the end of the day. Great fires will roar and a band of robots will strike up music suitable for dancing! Dress up in your finest satin and velvet, brush the extrement off your shoes and grab a partner!

Enjoy!

No I am not. Would you prefer to try dancing?

[Yes, she is giving her an out]

[ ...Looking over the board, Haruka doesn't see much point in continuing, no.

She pushes herself away from the table. ]
This better be incredible.

[ But it always is. ]

[Michiru smiles and gets up as well]

Oh, of course it will be. What else would it be?

[ Haruka raises an eyebrow in reply and offers Michiru her hand.

Shall we dance? ]

[Michiru puts her hand in Haruka's and smiles at her.

Yes, let's dance]

[ Suddenly, this party is a whole lot more entertaining!

Haruka is holding Michiru very close to her, indeed. ]

[This is definitely a much better way to celebrate.

Michiru definitely stays close to her, holding Haruka's hands as they dance together in time to the music that is being played]

How long does this make for you?

[ A whisper into her partner's hair. Haruka knows the answer to this question, but she still wants to try and think it over. One year anniversary of virtual prison and all. ]

I think you know.

[She's been thinking about it even more, especially today. Of course she knows how long it has been for Haruka as well]

Sector 6 is the only place we haven't looked for an exit.

[ She's still thinking about that, sorry. She's made a friend who wants to go there, too.

But she won't go without Michiru's permission. She owes her partner that. And she also won't be upset if Michiru wants today to just be for games. It's not like they don't have time. ]

[Michiru was quiet for a moment when Haruka said that. Yes, it was true that they hadn't looked in Sector 6 for clues on how to get out of here. But it also wasn't necessarily the safest option for something to do to try and find a way out]

And you want to go check?

Do we have a choice?

[ A choice that's really a choice, anyway. Staying here and just letting things happen to them without even trying to get out isn't Haruka's style. ] Even the people who've left are still captives. We can't just wait.

Not today. [ And especially not this moment, which - now that she has voiced her Soldier Worries - Haruka feels free to enjoy for itself.

She leans into her partner's touch. ]

Good. I'm glad you agree.

[Michiru would gladly go with her to check out Sector 6. It wasn't in her nature to just leave the difficult stuff to Haruka and sit by. But not only was there a festival today, she knew the dangers of Sector 6. It was quite possible one or both of them could be hurt so she wanted to enjoy this just a little bit longer]

It's not a bad party.

[ Which probably just means it gave her an excuse to dance with Michiru, but hey, that's....something. ]

[ That's the key phrase, isn't it. ] I would've preferred a race, though.

[ She's mostly just being contrary for the heck of it now. It amuses her. ]

We can't have everything. [ Her race. Michiru's surprise. Their freedom.

But they can have a nice time dancing. Close to each other. Very close. ]

No, of course not. But perhaps it is something that we can work on. [Maybe she was thinking of something along those lines as well.

She leans in closer to her partner as they dance, wanting to feel that warmth, that closeness. Sometime even with all of the people also here, it feels like they really only have each other]

[ Is that a problem, though? From where Haruka's standing, as long as she has Michiru, she doesn't really need anyone else.

Her face is getting dangerously close to Michiru's face. ]
Mm.

[ Haruka makes sure no one is looking and then kisses back without restraint. Just having Michiru here makes her know she can get through this. Having Michiru here makes her feel like she can escape. ]

[She had to make sure no one was looking? Especially when she was already leaning in so close? So much for decorum and being subtle.

They will escape. She knows that they will]
