DAY 365 — Anniversary Festival Mingle

Happy Day 365, Marina Nova!

Hear ye, hear ye! Inmates, prisoners, fellow underwater dwellers! Lend me your ears and hands and actually just bring all of you because we're having a ye olde Renaissance Faire to celebrate a full year in this bubble under the sea!

The dome has of course been decked out appropriately. Flickering torches light the pathways, interspersed with larger bonfires that you can cosy up to with that special someone - or perhaps just a glass of honey mead. Pennant banners hang across the gates and along the buildings, sporting the proud coat of arms of the prison (a lot of purple and octopi, for some reason) and many of the clothing stores offer time-appropriate options for those of you who still knows how to have fun. The kiosk has even been re-imagined into a castle.

Many areas within the dome has activities to partake in and, if you're skilled or lucky or both, prizes to win!

Sector 5 Gamegrounds: What better way to show your bravery than by participating in a series of tests of strength and cunning? Sector 5 provides the inmates with a chance to try such varied sports as varpa, caber tossing, ring toss or the very dignified sport of rövkrok, a type of wrestling that requires skill as well as no sense of shame. Not tough enough for you? There are also friendly foam weapons and armor available for those who want to engage in a chivalrous bout of hand to hand combat, test your archery skills — or maybe convince another prisoner to give you a piggyback ride and go jousting!

Competitors that do well enough and show outstanding bravery may be rewarded with a handful of rehab points, or a personalized pennant — or maybe a kiss from the lord or lady of your choosing!

Less violent activities: Not into skewering your neighbors on spears? Maybe you'd rather relax with a game of knucklebones, pick up sticks or Nine Men's Morris. Boards and instructions are readily available in several areas. If you're more creatively inclined there's also activity tables on offer where you can create your own coat of arms, bind yourself a flower crown or learn the art of illumination.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. Whole roasted pigs and poultry, wild rabbit in plum sauce, thick beef stews smelling of rich saffron, roasted vegetables (no potatoes here, no sir!) and cream-stewed cabbage for the vegetarians among us. If you're still hungry there's saffron pancake, ginger and clove cookies or bread pudding with raisins for dessert. There's plenty of mulled wine, honey mead, foaming beer, honeyd applewater and lingonberry juice to wash it down with. Enjoy!

Dance: As is custom, there will be a dance at the beach at the end of the day. Great fires will roar and a band of robots will strike up music suitable for dancing! Dress up in your finest satin and velvet, brush the extrement off your shoes and grab a partner!

Enjoy!

He chuckles, completely unabashed and absolutely not going to backtrack.

"Absolutely not! Just that this makes you appear even more so!"

He follows her glance over towards Han, whom he hasn't actually met yet but you'd have to be blind not to be able to tell he and Leia are a thing, or at least have been.

"May I ask you to dance, or will I be vaporised by a hot glare?"

"Flattery will get you nowhere," she chides, stealing one last glance at Han before giving the captain her full attention. "Oh, I think he'll live, and if he's learned how to actually fire blaster bolts from his eyes, it's news to me."

"Well, that's a relief!" he chuckles, and actually turns to give Han a playful salute, even while he resolves to be a perfect gentleman with the Princess.

"In that case..." he murmurs, offering her his hand, along with an alluring smile.

Han may not be capable of shooting blaster bolts from his eyes, but her certainly looks as if he wants to when Leia takes that offered hand. She shoots him a look of warning and turns towards the dance floor.

"Shall we?"

"We shall!" he declares, leading her courteously out onto the floor and then taking up a light ballroom hold once they're there. All very decorous and above-board.

"Seriously, I'm not going to make things awkward for you, am I?" he asks, a touch self-deprecatingly. "Apparently, I do that by dancing with people."

Leia hands rest in a similar manner, falling into step with ease and grace of someone who's been dancing since she was old enough to walk. She may not always enjoy dancing, but after nearly getting her toes stomped on by a few of her dance partners today, it's nice to dance with someone who seems to know what they're doing. She's impressed.

"No. You're not. I promise," she reassures. "I was the Alliance's leading diplomat. The general is quite used to me dancing with strange men he's unfamiliar with."

Yeah, it's nice to dance properly sometimes, with someone else who's been taught how to. It's not really the right kind of dancing for this kind of music, but Jack has never cared about that. And he's a strong enough lead that he can turn out a performance to anything, especially given a partner who knows what they're doing.

"Good," he smiles, turning them. "Because this is nice! Always a pleasure to dance with someone who's been trained."

Just because Han's used to her dancing with other people doesn't mean he cares much for it, but at least he seems like he has a better grip on it than he did on Bakura. Leia swore he was five seconds away from trying to fight every diplomat and politician who was in that room with them, including that Captison girl her brother was so infatuated with.

"Likewise," the princess echoes. "It's been a while since I've danced with someone who's obviously had some practice." She laughs, adding, "Who also doesn't need me to lead!"

He chuckles. "I'd be happy for you to lead if you wanted to! Always have had a thing for women who like to be in charge." Men too, to be perfectly honest, but he wasn't going to complicate things right now.

"I used to be a Time Agent," he explained. "I spent a lot of time in periods of history where formal dancing was one of the most useful ways of getting in with the people you needed to get in with. I'm little rusty on some of them, but I can still turn out a decent foxtrot, at least!"

"Now that's something you and he have in common," Leia says of his attraction to women in charge.

From what little Leia knew of Bria Tharen (and let's not give much thought towards Han's wayward dead ex right now), that seemed about right.

"A Time Agent?" Oh, now you've got her attention, Captain. "So traveling between worlds and interacting with people from different times and planets is something you have experience with, hmm? And you're far from being the rustiest dance partner I've ever had."

He laughs, glancing over towards Han. "Perhaps I should introduce myself at some point!"

He grins down at her. He knew that would pique her interest.

"Thank you! And yes, exactly that. It was my job to track down people who were trying to manipulate time to their advantage, and that usually meant in periods of history before time-travel was available. Earth, early 20th century was my favourite period." He cocks his head, smiling ruefully. "Though I guess that doesn't mean much to you."

"Let me handle the introductions," the princess insists, firmly. "We'll have less overgrown Corellian tantrums on our hands, that way."

Not that he's thrown any since arriving in this underwater, possibly virtual prison — yet. (Yet being the keyword, and she would rather be there to manage his Wookiee sized hissy fit than inflict him on anyone else.)

"No, it really doesn't. Much of your Earth culture is completely lost on me."

His eyebrows go up a bit, and he gives her an amused smile. "Yes, ma'am!" he says smartly, grinning.

"I guess that means the whole Rennaissance thing is lost on you too, huh?" he observes. "On the other hand, aparently formal dancing is similar enough in your universe. Well, either that or I'm an even stronger leader than I realised!"

Very lost. She was aware of renaissances on numerous worlds, but none of them were quite like what was being represented here. The atmosphere, the distinct lack of technology... It reminded her of early schooling years, learning about Alderaan in the days before the Republic. Before traveling between worlds was the norm. Thousands and thousands of years ago.

"You're a good lead," she assures with a smile. "But I am a princess. I spent a good portion of my formative years waltzing around a ballroom floor. Can't say I cared for it much then. To tell you the truth, I would've much rather been outside rolling around in the mud than twirling about in a skirt."

Yeah, she's probably one of the few here who actually grew up, like him, with a much higher level of technology than is represented here (at least overtly; obviously there's incredibly powerful technology at work behind the scenes). It's something he really ought to get around to discussing with her at some point.

For now, though, he just chuckles warmly at her description and grins down at her. "Is that so? Because now I'm really regretting not having challenged you to rövkrok this afternoon!"

That really would have shown a different side to the princess!

Much, much higher. It still throws her to be met with awe whenever she casually mentions interstellar travel. It's a baffling concept; humans who have yet to discover (or otherwise obtain) the ability to go off world and travel to places beyond their own moons. She can't quite wrap her head around it.

"Is that what that ridiculous leg wrestling was called?"

"Apparently! It's not something I'd ever come across before, but it turned out to be a lot of fun!"
