DAY 365 — Anniversary Festival Mingle

Happy Day 365, Marina Nova!

Hear ye, hear ye! Inmates, prisoners, fellow underwater dwellers! Lend me your ears and hands and actually just bring all of you because we're having a ye olde Renaissance Faire to celebrate a full year in this bubble under the sea!

The dome has of course been decked out appropriately. Flickering torches light the pathways, interspersed with larger bonfires that you can cosy up to with that special someone - or perhaps just a glass of honey mead. Pennant banners hang across the gates and along the buildings, sporting the proud coat of arms of the prison (a lot of purple and octopi, for some reason) and many of the clothing stores offer time-appropriate options for those of you who still knows how to have fun. The kiosk has even been re-imagined into a castle.

Many areas within the dome has activities to partake in and, if you're skilled or lucky or both, prizes to win!

Sector 5 Gamegrounds: What better way to show your bravery than by participating in a series of tests of strength and cunning? Sector 5 provides the inmates with a chance to try such varied sports as varpa, caber tossing, ring toss or the very dignified sport of rövkrok, a type of wrestling that requires skill as well as no sense of shame. Not tough enough for you? There are also friendly foam weapons and armor available for those who want to engage in a chivalrous bout of hand to hand combat, test your archery skills — or maybe convince another prisoner to give you a piggyback ride and go jousting!

Competitors that do well enough and show outstanding bravery may be rewarded with a handful of rehab points, or a personalized pennant — or maybe a kiss from the lord or lady of your choosing!

Less violent activities: Not into skewering your neighbors on spears? Maybe you'd rather relax with a game of knucklebones, pick up sticks or Nine Men's Morris. Boards and instructions are readily available in several areas. If you're more creatively inclined there's also activity tables on offer where you can create your own coat of arms, bind yourself a flower crown or learn the art of illumination.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. Whole roasted pigs and poultry, wild rabbit in plum sauce, thick beef stews smelling of rich saffron, roasted vegetables (no potatoes here, no sir!) and cream-stewed cabbage for the vegetarians among us. If you're still hungry there's saffron pancake, ginger and clove cookies or bread pudding with raisins for dessert. There's plenty of mulled wine, honey mead, foaming beer, honeyd applewater and lingonberry juice to wash it down with. Enjoy!

Dance: As is custom, there will be a dance at the beach at the end of the day. Great fires will roar and a band of robots will strike up music suitable for dancing! Dress up in your finest satin and velvet, brush the extrement off your shoes and grab a partner!

Enjoy!

[ the world "alien" is relative in leia's galaxy. bothans and gamorreans were alien to her, but as a human, she was alien to them. ]

That depends on the context in which you're asking. I'm human, but I'm not from this popular Earth world a good percentage of the people here seem to be from.

Humans spread across the universe. I've seen them everywhere and everywhen. That's not surprising. But the fact that you have telekinesis? Is it an evolution thing? Necessary on some planet?

[ perhaps its for the best that she hasn't the slightest clue about midi-chlorians or believes into what reid spoke of in regards to her supposed literal force-heritage through her fatherless father. it gives her vague answer a bit more credibility. ]

I think it's more of a differing galaxies thing, for humans aren't the only beings who possess power like mine.

Oh... That's...

I've never visited anywhere like that before. That sounds really interesting.

I suppose, but power like this is dangerous for many reasons.

[ vague. leia slips the stick back into the pile. ] Let's not count that one. You go.

Well, yeah. Power can be used for good as well as evil. And when people with power get an ego trip, sometimes there's no stopping them.

[She might understand a bit more than you realize Leia.]

It doesn't make it any less fascinating though.

[Martha watches the stick land back into the pile and reaches down for another one. She unfortunately does move a stick this time as she picks it up.]

And now it's your turn.

[ a decidedly un-princess-like snort. ] Ego trip is putting it mildly.

[ leia pulls one out from the bottom, one that was tented under a grouping of others that tangle together like the walls of a cave. a convenient, easy move. ]

Fascinating, terrifying... I haven't been aware of it for as long as I would have liked. It's a very new thing for me, and something I wouldn't be putting as much effort or thought into were I not stuck here with little else to do.

Now that I understand. [Martha waits for Leia to continue until she moves something.]

I've started researching medical information for all sorts of things. Things I'll likely never have to deal with just because I've nothing else to do here.

[She twirls a ring on her finger.]

And I miss my husband.

I'm not married, but before he showed up a few days ago, I missed my— [ boyfriend? lover? they really ought to put a label on their relationship... leia lets the sentence drop off. ] I'm sorry that you're away from him. That must be hard.

Partner? [Martha supplies the word. It's a fairly generic term that works pretty well for most relationships she finds.]

It's... I'd gotten so used to him being around. In such a short amount of time. And now he's not.

[She forces a smile.]

Still, better he's not here right? I shouldn't be wishing him to be in prison.

Partner. [ that word works, and she looks to martha gratefully for providing it. discussing their intentions and the reality of their — or at least her — situation didn't really have a place against the backdrop of war. the future seemed so far off when you weren't always certain you'd live to see tomorrow. ]

Amazing, isn't it, how quickly you grow attached to someone? How jarring it can be when you find yourself ripped away from them? [ her brother. han while he was in carbonite. she gets you, martha.

leia nods in agreement. ]
Far better. I won't lie; I enjoy having Han here, but I still wish he hadn't been brought here at all. I never wanted him here. Sure, days like today seem nice, but that's not always the case.

Quite amazing. [She smiles as she envisions Mickey's eye roll every time the Doctor or Rose are mentioned in their household. Of course they're good friends with both, and perhaps a little grateful in a twisted way of how the two brought them together.]

Oh I'm very aware of how this place can be. Between the things the prison throws at us and the various things that happen from inmates.

[The dress does nothing to cover the bite mark on her neck, and if Leia's looking, she might see some scars peeking out under Martha's right sleeve.]

[ it doesn't. leia notices, but she's far too polite to ask, especially without any reason to. ]

As welcome as the dome may seem, it can be harsh and unforgiving. Unapologetic in terms of who it targets. They don't care who we are or what we've already been through.

Why should they when they view us as bad people? Regardless of our rap sheet. The fact that we're seemingly sentenced to life makes it worse because it means they don't believe we're worth "reintroducing" back into society.

Heck, I was home for a year and then they pulled me back.

[ she shakes her head. ]

I'd say that I couldn't believe they could be so cruel, but after some of the things I've seen and experienced— They are that cruel. It's like we're animals in some sort of zoo with our cages being rattled for someone's amusement.

[Martha's not used to hearing this side of things honestly. For Jack and Ianto, this place has been a blessing in disguise. For Martha, though she would rather be back with Mickey in London, things haven't been so terrible either. Minus the werewolf and vampire incidents, and what happened to Ianto... but those were due to inmates.

In fact, the horrible things that the wardens throw at them are often no worse than what she dealt with while traveling with the Doctor. Or in UNIT. It's as though she was groomed to be here. And for every awful thing that happens, a good one comes too. So instead of corroborating Leia's statements, she instead opts to wonder about their captors.]

I'm curious as to where this prison is. What sort of world. Who our captors are that they feel they can be the judges of so many universes.

[ leia can be a lot more optimistic, but whatever organization was responsible for bringing everyone here did her a great disservice by pulling her from such an unstable point in her personal timeline. her whole sense of identity has been turned upside down, and two months out of endor, she still doesn't quite know what to do with herself now that she's darth vader's force-sensitive daughter.

cruelty just seems like a common denominator at this point, and she struggles against allowing it to drag her down. optimism was a lot easier when she was the face of the rebellion and needed to keep looking on the bright side for the sake of all those looking to her for guidance and reassurance. ]

I'm no scientist, but with the easy access they seem to have to varying galaxies, dimensions, and multiple versions of a single planet, I'd say it's some sort of transdimensional middle ground.
