DAY 365 — Anniversary Festival Mingle

Happy Day 365, Marina Nova!

Hear ye, hear ye! Inmates, prisoners, fellow underwater dwellers! Lend me your ears and hands and actually just bring all of you because we're having a ye olde Renaissance Faire to celebrate a full year in this bubble under the sea!

The dome has of course been decked out appropriately. Flickering torches light the pathways, interspersed with larger bonfires that you can cosy up to with that special someone - or perhaps just a glass of honey mead. Pennant banners hang across the gates and along the buildings, sporting the proud coat of arms of the prison (a lot of purple and octopi, for some reason) and many of the clothing stores offer time-appropriate options for those of you who still knows how to have fun. The kiosk has even been re-imagined into a castle.

Many areas within the dome has activities to partake in and, if you're skilled or lucky or both, prizes to win!

Sector 5 Gamegrounds: What better way to show your bravery than by participating in a series of tests of strength and cunning? Sector 5 provides the inmates with a chance to try such varied sports as varpa, caber tossing, ring toss or the very dignified sport of rövkrok, a type of wrestling that requires skill as well as no sense of shame. Not tough enough for you? There are also friendly foam weapons and armor available for those who want to engage in a chivalrous bout of hand to hand combat, test your archery skills — or maybe convince another prisoner to give you a piggyback ride and go jousting!

Competitors that do well enough and show outstanding bravery may be rewarded with a handful of rehab points, or a personalized pennant — or maybe a kiss from the lord or lady of your choosing!

Less violent activities: Not into skewering your neighbors on spears? Maybe you'd rather relax with a game of knucklebones, pick up sticks or Nine Men's Morris. Boards and instructions are readily available in several areas. If you're more creatively inclined there's also activity tables on offer where you can create your own coat of arms, bind yourself a flower crown or learn the art of illumination.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. Whole roasted pigs and poultry, wild rabbit in plum sauce, thick beef stews smelling of rich saffron, roasted vegetables (no potatoes here, no sir!) and cream-stewed cabbage for the vegetarians among us. If you're still hungry there's saffron pancake, ginger and clove cookies or bread pudding with raisins for dessert. There's plenty of mulled wine, honey mead, foaming beer, honeyd applewater and lingonberry juice to wash it down with. Enjoy!

Dance: As is custom, there will be a dance at the beach at the end of the day. Great fires will roar and a band of robots will strike up music suitable for dancing! Dress up in your finest satin and velvet, brush the extrement off your shoes and grab a partner!

Enjoy!

[ He pauses for a moment, jaw set as he tries to take this from another angle but - to his great annoyance - there isn't one. Sonnova bitch. ]

Okay - fine. You got me. My head isn't in the game.

How about the best two out of three?

[ There's no good in winning against him now if he's not actually playing. ]

Alright... you're on. And if you ever want a real challenge, chess is more my speed.

So you've got that where you're from?

[ As he works on clearing the board of the first game that does not count. ]

Yeah... seems to be one of the few things that exist in almost any universe. I don't think I've met anyone yet who didn't know of the game.

[ Once the board is cleared, Han makes the first move. Technically, the first game didn't count but apparently the coin toss has rolled over. ]

Not exactly my favorite game. [ Probably because Chewie wins a good chunk of the time. ] Then again, neither's this.

[ He does pay more attention this time. Perhaps he's not as competitive as he normally is, but that's not what this is about anyway. ]

What is, in that case? Within prison restrictions.

Prison restrictions? [ He rolls his eyes. Restrictions here seem to be arbitrary and random. ] I don't guess you guys have any swoop races or sabaac tables.

[ It's easier to play a game if you can actually... play the game. ] Swoop races, no.

Sabacc would be easier to arrange, I'm sure.

Yeah, more legal, too. [ If they actually care about that... But he looks up to see Leia keeping a very close eye on them. Han assumes she's worried he'll make a vrelt's ass of himself, so he waves her off. We're fine, no one is yelling, go make a crown or something. ]

We're already in prison, I think space is the problem rather than legality.

[ He glances up, feeling a little twist at seeing Leia around, but brushes it off quickly enough. Friends. No point in getting all clingy. ]

[ She might not be clinging at the moment, but Leia still hovers some distance away at another table. Han would be surprised if she let him out of sight for anything other than the 'fresher any time soon given how quick Luke's disappearance was. ]

I've seen races about as tight. [ There were usually a lot of crashes in them, but since he's never getting his hands on a swoop in this place he's not going to push the point. ]

Did they have as many pedestrians around? [ Maybe the space isn't the problem in this highly hypothetical scenario, but the people. ]

Not that death or injury is real here, but it still feels like the genuine article.

What, you don't think people here would know how to get out of the way?

[ Entirely hypothetical. It's been... A Long Time since Han has been in a swoop race, but it's easier to talk about hypothetical races than ask Reid questions he's not really sure he wants the answers to. ]

You've been here a couple of days now, what do you think?

That maybe you could use some excitement that doesn't get handed down from malfunctioning droid brains.

[ And that's less about the potential of a swoop race than it is escape. ]

I hate to disappoint, but the excitement we get from other inmates is either parties or murder. So, if you have other ideas...

[ Han wrinkles his nose at that. He might be a little too used to parties and murder, given his unfortunate luck in choosing friends and business associates, but those were never great options no matter what galaxy he's in. ]

Not yet, but I'm working on it.

[ He nods. Alright, maybe nothing he should press on with right now. This isn't the time. ]

Not a bad way to spend time here... and believe me, you'll have more of that than you'll know what to do with.

I can see that. Or maybe you're keeping my head out of the game this time. [ Which, looking at the board now, seems to have worked, whether it was intentional or not. ] Kest.
