DAY 365 — Anniversary Festival Mingle

Happy Day 365, Marina Nova!

Hear ye, hear ye! Inmates, prisoners, fellow underwater dwellers! Lend me your ears and hands and actually just bring all of you because we're having a ye olde Renaissance Faire to celebrate a full year in this bubble under the sea!

The dome has of course been decked out appropriately. Flickering torches light the pathways, interspersed with larger bonfires that you can cosy up to with that special someone - or perhaps just a glass of honey mead. Pennant banners hang across the gates and along the buildings, sporting the proud coat of arms of the prison (a lot of purple and octopi, for some reason) and many of the clothing stores offer time-appropriate options for those of you who still knows how to have fun. The kiosk has even been re-imagined into a castle.

Many areas within the dome has activities to partake in and, if you're skilled or lucky or both, prizes to win!

Sector 5 Gamegrounds: What better way to show your bravery than by participating in a series of tests of strength and cunning? Sector 5 provides the inmates with a chance to try such varied sports as varpa, caber tossing, ring toss or the very dignified sport of rövkrok, a type of wrestling that requires skill as well as no sense of shame. Not tough enough for you? There are also friendly foam weapons and armor available for those who want to engage in a chivalrous bout of hand to hand combat, test your archery skills — or maybe convince another prisoner to give you a piggyback ride and go jousting!

Competitors that do well enough and show outstanding bravery may be rewarded with a handful of rehab points, or a personalized pennant — or maybe a kiss from the lord or lady of your choosing!

Less violent activities: Not into skewering your neighbors on spears? Maybe you'd rather relax with a game of knucklebones, pick up sticks or Nine Men's Morris. Boards and instructions are readily available in several areas. If you're more creatively inclined there's also activity tables on offer where you can create your own coat of arms, bind yourself a flower crown or learn the art of illumination.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. Whole roasted pigs and poultry, wild rabbit in plum sauce, thick beef stews smelling of rich saffron, roasted vegetables (no potatoes here, no sir!) and cream-stewed cabbage for the vegetarians among us. If you're still hungry there's saffron pancake, ginger and clove cookies or bread pudding with raisins for dessert. There's plenty of mulled wine, honey mead, foaming beer, honeyd applewater and lingonberry juice to wash it down with. Enjoy!

Dance: As is custom, there will be a dance at the beach at the end of the day. Great fires will roar and a band of robots will strike up music suitable for dancing! Dress up in your finest satin and velvet, brush the extrement off your shoes and grab a partner!

Enjoy!

[Even less so when it is coming right for you firing a laser with enough fire power to wipe out several ships]

Yeah, definitely longer. More into the time frame of months. Not a year though.

Haven't seen anyone yet that has. Not sure if that's a good sign or a bad one.

I know there were those who were close when they got here, but not all have been in this reverse fish tank the entire time. Hard to tell if it is good or bad. People go, people come back. Those who come back, seems it varies if they remember the place or not. Some people come back with new memories from their own world.

[Like him]

Had a friend here before me, disappeared after a couple days. Sounds like if he comes back it's a raw deal either way. [ Coming back and having to re-learn everything about this place, or coming back after living your life again. They both seem excessively cruel. ]

He'd have to get over missing the logs, though.

Hmm... that's a shame. Happened to me with my brother. He was gone and now he's back. Probably not a good thing, but we can't change it.

[And with a completely straight face]

Yeah... missing the logs. How will anyone live with themselves having not seen this?

[Okay, now he's grinning]

[ He almost says 'it could be worse,' but he's not gonna tempt fate. ]

A lot of disappointment and some good ale, probably. [ Which, generally, seems like a good idea to handle being in this place at all. ]

[Yeah, don't say it could be worse... because it will be worse if you say that]

Then how will we know something is different? Sounds like a normal day in paradise.

Well, they'll be crying about logs. Dead giveaway.

It's those little details you really gotta watch for.

True, true. You don't pay attention to those and you'll miss something important. Like how disheartening it is to miss the logs. Almost as disappointing to miss as watching paint dry.

From what I've heard, choices seem to be missing out on logs and paint or being glad you didn't get hit with something a lot worse.

Well, I guess that is one good thing about missing the logs. Not getting hit by them.

[A bit of a pun there]

Remind me of that when the party's over and something tries to kill me.

I'm just glad they gave us an option not to. With what everyone's been telling me, I was expecting less of that.

Well, on party days, you generally have a choice. A little less of a choice when the raptors escape for Sector 6.

What's a Raptor?

It is a large reptile that walks on its hind legs. It is usually found in packs and trying to eat you.

There not some other prison they could keep that kinda thing? I don't mind big lizards so much when they aren't ones that want to eat me.

Apparently not. They are only in Sector 6, which is normally secure. However, when the power goes out, it is no longer secure. The first prison we were in did not have that same issue. There was no sector dedicated to creatures like raptors. Also how they commit crimes is beyond me.
