DAY 365 — Anniversary Festival Mingle

Happy Day 365, Marina Nova!

Hear ye, hear ye! Inmates, prisoners, fellow underwater dwellers! Lend me your ears and hands and actually just bring all of you because we're having a ye olde Renaissance Faire to celebrate a full year in this bubble under the sea!

The dome has of course been decked out appropriately. Flickering torches light the pathways, interspersed with larger bonfires that you can cosy up to with that special someone - or perhaps just a glass of honey mead. Pennant banners hang across the gates and along the buildings, sporting the proud coat of arms of the prison (a lot of purple and octopi, for some reason) and many of the clothing stores offer time-appropriate options for those of you who still knows how to have fun. The kiosk has even been re-imagined into a castle.

Many areas within the dome has activities to partake in and, if you're skilled or lucky or both, prizes to win!

Sector 5 Gamegrounds: What better way to show your bravery than by participating in a series of tests of strength and cunning? Sector 5 provides the inmates with a chance to try such varied sports as varpa, caber tossing, ring toss or the very dignified sport of rövkrok, a type of wrestling that requires skill as well as no sense of shame. Not tough enough for you? There are also friendly foam weapons and armor available for those who want to engage in a chivalrous bout of hand to hand combat, test your archery skills — or maybe convince another prisoner to give you a piggyback ride and go jousting!

Competitors that do well enough and show outstanding bravery may be rewarded with a handful of rehab points, or a personalized pennant — or maybe a kiss from the lord or lady of your choosing!

Less violent activities: Not into skewering your neighbors on spears? Maybe you'd rather relax with a game of knucklebones, pick up sticks or Nine Men's Morris. Boards and instructions are readily available in several areas. If you're more creatively inclined there's also activity tables on offer where you can create your own coat of arms, bind yourself a flower crown or learn the art of illumination.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. Whole roasted pigs and poultry, wild rabbit in plum sauce, thick beef stews smelling of rich saffron, roasted vegetables (no potatoes here, no sir!) and cream-stewed cabbage for the vegetarians among us. If you're still hungry there's saffron pancake, ginger and clove cookies or bread pudding with raisins for dessert. There's plenty of mulled wine, honey mead, foaming beer, honeyd applewater and lingonberry juice to wash it down with. Enjoy!

Dance: As is custom, there will be a dance at the beach at the end of the day. Great fires will roar and a band of robots will strike up music suitable for dancing! Dress up in your finest satin and velvet, brush the extrement off your shoes and grab a partner!

Enjoy!

The word execution in there worries me a little. [He tried to say that with a bit of humor, but really - what kind of school club was dedicated to that? He could just hope it had something to do with biology rather than real executions.

The next thing, though, gets his attention. She had seemed so natural, he wouldn't have thought-]
A machine? Then you were created? [The scientist in him wanted to take a closer look at her right now, but he struggled against it.] I-indeed, you seem like a natural girl to me.

Thank you. I try to think of myself as a girl, or as something as close to one as I can be. I was created by scientists working for the Kirijo Group to combat monsters we call Shadows. There are many interesting people here, but I have not met anyone else like me in this place.

[Created by scientists - of course. He had to think that, almost bitterly. Why create a sentient being for battle?]

I have not heard of these monsters called Shadows, but I think I know a girl who is somewhat like you.

Someone like me? [You have her instant attention.]

She's a girl who has been created artificially - I guess she's not really a machine and she's not combating monsters, but she definitely has good physical capabilities and can be as dangerous as a weapon.

[He closes his eyes shortly. He doesn't think it's possible, but if, by any change, it was that way, then...]

Um, do you have a crystal of some sort that helps you existing?

May I ask how she perceives herself? Does she think of herself as human? [She can't help but be curious. Aside from Metis she has no one to compare herself to.]

I do. A Plume of Dusk, which allows me to develop a Persona and function during the Dark Hour. How did you know?

I think - I think not completely, even if I try to tell her otherwise. She was often called a monster, that might have stuck with her. [Which was terrible and at least partially - if not mainly - his fault.

That she actually affirms his suspicion comes as a surprise and his eyes widen.]
Um, it was just a thought. So it's not the Horoglium... [He mutters more to himself before his attention turns back to her.] Would you mind if I take a look at it once? Maybe examine it a little?

[She looks a little unsure.] My Papillon Heart is very delicate. I am not supposed to expose it outside of the lab.

Ahm delicate - I guess if you're only supposed to expose it there, then it needs special treatment. [Or is dangerous. Or both. Still, he can't help but feel slightly disappointed, but he can't let his scientific curiosity get the better of him.]

I admit I'm still curious but it's not worth putting you in any danger then. But how about you? How do the people around you treat you?

Thank you. I appreciate your understanding. [There is only one person who is not a scientist she has let access her heart, one special person. Someone who is gone now.]

Everyone here has been very kind towards me. No one seems to think I am strange or unusual. Perhaps it is because everyone in this place is so different themselves.

I am afraid I must not have met this person yet. There are still many people here I do not know.

Yeah, don't worry about it. It looks like we have some time here to meet lots of other people.
