DAY 365 — Anniversary Festival Mingle

Happy Day 365, Marina Nova!

Hear ye, hear ye! Inmates, prisoners, fellow underwater dwellers! Lend me your ears and hands and actually just bring all of you because we're having a ye olde Renaissance Faire to celebrate a full year in this bubble under the sea!

The dome has of course been decked out appropriately. Flickering torches light the pathways, interspersed with larger bonfires that you can cosy up to with that special someone - or perhaps just a glass of honey mead. Pennant banners hang across the gates and along the buildings, sporting the proud coat of arms of the prison (a lot of purple and octopi, for some reason) and many of the clothing stores offer time-appropriate options for those of you who still knows how to have fun. The kiosk has even been re-imagined into a castle.

Many areas within the dome has activities to partake in and, if you're skilled or lucky or both, prizes to win!

Sector 5 Gamegrounds: What better way to show your bravery than by participating in a series of tests of strength and cunning? Sector 5 provides the inmates with a chance to try such varied sports as varpa, caber tossing, ring toss or the very dignified sport of rövkrok, a type of wrestling that requires skill as well as no sense of shame. Not tough enough for you? There are also friendly foam weapons and armor available for those who want to engage in a chivalrous bout of hand to hand combat, test your archery skills — or maybe convince another prisoner to give you a piggyback ride and go jousting!

Competitors that do well enough and show outstanding bravery may be rewarded with a handful of rehab points, or a personalized pennant — or maybe a kiss from the lord or lady of your choosing!

Less violent activities: Not into skewering your neighbors on spears? Maybe you'd rather relax with a game of knucklebones, pick up sticks or Nine Men's Morris. Boards and instructions are readily available in several areas. If you're more creatively inclined there's also activity tables on offer where you can create your own coat of arms, bind yourself a flower crown or learn the art of illumination.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. Whole roasted pigs and poultry, wild rabbit in plum sauce, thick beef stews smelling of rich saffron, roasted vegetables (no potatoes here, no sir!) and cream-stewed cabbage for the vegetarians among us. If you're still hungry there's saffron pancake, ginger and clove cookies or bread pudding with raisins for dessert. There's plenty of mulled wine, honey mead, foaming beer, honeyd applewater and lingonberry juice to wash it down with. Enjoy!

Dance: As is custom, there will be a dance at the beach at the end of the day. Great fires will roar and a band of robots will strike up music suitable for dancing! Dress up in your finest satin and velvet, brush the extrement off your shoes and grab a partner!

Enjoy!

[Euphie always has an air of royalty around her and today's costume is no exception. It's a light purple, ornate, and flowing. She finds Lyle when she heads over for a snack.]

Hello, Lyle. The festival is lovely, isn't it?

[Ah, his not sister friend Euphie. She was always easy to spot with that pink hair. He smiles as she comes over]

Hey there. Yes, this is a nice festival. You look very regal today.

I'm a princess. I look regal everyday. [As if it's in her DNA and not the way she presents herself.] The green looks good on you.

Of course you do, but you definitely do today. Why, thank you. I thought the green was quite dashing.

[He waves a hand down at the doublet as though he is showing it off]

[She smiles, amused at him.] Thank you, dashing sir. Have you been enjoying the festival?

[He aims to be amusing] I've been enjoying it. It's a lot of fun. They seemed to come up with a lot of things to do. I mean caber tossing... that's surprising.

[She giggles.] Did you give it a try already or is there still a chance to watch you?

Me? Try the caber toss? It wasn't something that ever crossed my mind to try.

[And he wasn't intending to]

Yes, it has crossed, but should that mean I have to go ahead and do it?

I would cheer you on if you did. [She'd probably cheer him on for having a taco if he wanted.]

[If there was money here, Lyle would probably give her some if she were to cheer him on for eating a taco]

Would you now? What if I were to try with something a little smaller?

Like a pencil? [Teasing him.]

I was thinking like a stick, but a pencil would work too.

[He actually is completely serious about that]

So, maybe a big stick for more of a challenge? It will need to be something worth cheering.

How big would you consider a big stick?

It should be taller than you I think.

Taller than me? I suppose that is true.

[She never said how big around it has to be...]

Does it now? Maybe because I don't want to get squished by one of the cabers. Though if we could find a small substitute...

I suppose not wanting to be squished is a valid concern. I wouldn't really want you squished either. [She's really just being playful with all of this.]

Good, I'm glad you don't want me to be squished. It would be really disappointing if you did... and a little inconvenient for me.

[So is he. Though he hasn't moved to find anything to toss yet]
