DAY 365 — Anniversary Festival Mingle

Happy Day 365, Marina Nova!

Hear ye, hear ye! Inmates, prisoners, fellow underwater dwellers! Lend me your ears and hands and actually just bring all of you because we're having a ye olde Renaissance Faire to celebrate a full year in this bubble under the sea!

The dome has of course been decked out appropriately. Flickering torches light the pathways, interspersed with larger bonfires that you can cosy up to with that special someone - or perhaps just a glass of honey mead. Pennant banners hang across the gates and along the buildings, sporting the proud coat of arms of the prison (a lot of purple and octopi, for some reason) and many of the clothing stores offer time-appropriate options for those of you who still knows how to have fun. The kiosk has even been re-imagined into a castle.

Many areas within the dome has activities to partake in and, if you're skilled or lucky or both, prizes to win!

Sector 5 Gamegrounds: What better way to show your bravery than by participating in a series of tests of strength and cunning? Sector 5 provides the inmates with a chance to try such varied sports as varpa, caber tossing, ring toss or the very dignified sport of rövkrok, a type of wrestling that requires skill as well as no sense of shame. Not tough enough for you? There are also friendly foam weapons and armor available for those who want to engage in a chivalrous bout of hand to hand combat, test your archery skills — or maybe convince another prisoner to give you a piggyback ride and go jousting!

Competitors that do well enough and show outstanding bravery may be rewarded with a handful of rehab points, or a personalized pennant — or maybe a kiss from the lord or lady of your choosing!

Less violent activities: Not into skewering your neighbors on spears? Maybe you'd rather relax with a game of knucklebones, pick up sticks or Nine Men's Morris. Boards and instructions are readily available in several areas. If you're more creatively inclined there's also activity tables on offer where you can create your own coat of arms, bind yourself a flower crown or learn the art of illumination.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. Whole roasted pigs and poultry, wild rabbit in plum sauce, thick beef stews smelling of rich saffron, roasted vegetables (no potatoes here, no sir!) and cream-stewed cabbage for the vegetarians among us. If you're still hungry there's saffron pancake, ginger and clove cookies or bread pudding with raisins for dessert. There's plenty of mulled wine, honey mead, foaming beer, honeyd applewater and lingonberry juice to wash it down with. Enjoy!

Dance: As is custom, there will be a dance at the beach at the end of the day. Great fires will roar and a band of robots will strike up music suitable for dancing! Dress up in your finest satin and velvet, brush the extrement off your shoes and grab a partner!

Enjoy!

[ Not like there's been time for dates at their point in the timeline. Just a few weeks stuck on a ship, an Ewok party, and some really awkward dinner arrangements on Bakura. And he's not immediately sure who Chuck is, but Leia had mentioned the marriage so it's probably a safe guess.

Right now, he's holding his hands up in pre-surrender as he moves to sit down and get this humiliation started. ]

Wouldn't dream of it. Only planning on doing this stupid thing once, anyway. [ He looks at Ton, and suddenly has a Bad Feeling he is not going to come out of this looking cool. ] Ready?

Ready to win, yes. [This is not a contest of dignity, no. Luckily those are Phanan's favorite kinds of contests. Also luckily he's got a metal leg among all his spare which today is taking on the roll of secret weapon. Winning isn't actually that much of a priority to him since it's more about the entertainment value of it all. Still, it would be nice not to immediately lose to a famous general.

[ leia takes a seat upon a nearby bench to watch the show. whether han wins or not is no matter to her. all she cares about is the fact that despite the costume she knows he hates and all these silly activities, he's indulging her. he's trying. and that means everything to her right now. ]

[ Funnily enough, Han has a sneaking suspicion that all this indulgence is gonna give him a few things to regret. Like this, right now. This moment where he's on the ground with a leg up in the air. ]

Don't be so sure about that.

[ No, be sure. Han is too busy glancing over at Leia and preemptively regretting this to be fully prepared for this leg fight. ]

[Prepardness isn't really an issue since Phanan's strategie seems to involve flailing around and giggling about all this more than actually trying to win. Hey, as long as he gets some amusement out of it he'll consider it a win.] This is the best sport ever invented.

[ it's a brilliant strategy, one that makes it difficult for the princess to save face. her amusement escapes in the form of light giggles at first, but soon she's bursting with unrestrained laughter. ]

You look ridiculous!

[ both of them, and she's utterly delighted by it. leia hasn't laughed this hard in— in a very long time. ]

[ No, it's terrible, because it leaves Han grabbing at the ground to keep himself stable. Which, in point of fact, does not help at all. ]

Oh, c'mon! [ The distraction of Leia laughing is too much, though, and Han is getting upended. Congratulations, Ton. ]

[Phanan is just as startled by his win and bursts out laughing at it. He can't help it. Even he can't take ever absurd situation in stride. He sits up and offers Han a hand to regain his balance.] I can't imagine why this sport never caught on in the rest of the universe.

[ it's a good thing ton has the presence of mind to offer han a helping hand, for the princess is too caught up in amusement to do so herself. she's doubled over on the bench, clutching her sides and leaning so far over her knees that the heavy crown on her head threatens to topple off. ]

[ At least someone is thinking of Han's manly pride. Not, like, a lot... ] A healthy sense of shame?

[ Which is mostly Han being a sore loser as he accepts the help and resists the very strong urge to make this a best two out of three (or three out of five, or six out of ten--however many he'd need). Leia, though, is quite a sight. This might be worth it just to see her laugh that hard. ] I think she got more out of it than we did.

I think she did. [Ton's not particularly competitive so he's not one to brag or make a big deal out of winning. He's plenty entertained by Leia's reaction, though.] Were we that funny?
