DAY 365 — Anniversary Festival Mingle

Happy Day 365, Marina Nova!

Hear ye, hear ye! Inmates, prisoners, fellow underwater dwellers! Lend me your ears and hands and actually just bring all of you because we're having a ye olde Renaissance Faire to celebrate a full year in this bubble under the sea!

The dome has of course been decked out appropriately. Flickering torches light the pathways, interspersed with larger bonfires that you can cosy up to with that special someone - or perhaps just a glass of honey mead. Pennant banners hang across the gates and along the buildings, sporting the proud coat of arms of the prison (a lot of purple and octopi, for some reason) and many of the clothing stores offer time-appropriate options for those of you who still knows how to have fun. The kiosk has even been re-imagined into a castle.

Many areas within the dome has activities to partake in and, if you're skilled or lucky or both, prizes to win!

Sector 5 Gamegrounds: What better way to show your bravery than by participating in a series of tests of strength and cunning? Sector 5 provides the inmates with a chance to try such varied sports as varpa, caber tossing, ring toss or the very dignified sport of rövkrok, a type of wrestling that requires skill as well as no sense of shame. Not tough enough for you? There are also friendly foam weapons and armor available for those who want to engage in a chivalrous bout of hand to hand combat, test your archery skills — or maybe convince another prisoner to give you a piggyback ride and go jousting!

Competitors that do well enough and show outstanding bravery may be rewarded with a handful of rehab points, or a personalized pennant — or maybe a kiss from the lord or lady of your choosing!

Less violent activities: Not into skewering your neighbors on spears? Maybe you'd rather relax with a game of knucklebones, pick up sticks or Nine Men's Morris. Boards and instructions are readily available in several areas. If you're more creatively inclined there's also activity tables on offer where you can create your own coat of arms, bind yourself a flower crown or learn the art of illumination.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. Whole roasted pigs and poultry, wild rabbit in plum sauce, thick beef stews smelling of rich saffron, roasted vegetables (no potatoes here, no sir!) and cream-stewed cabbage for the vegetarians among us. If you're still hungry there's saffron pancake, ginger and clove cookies or bread pudding with raisins for dessert. There's plenty of mulled wine, honey mead, foaming beer, honeyd applewater and lingonberry juice to wash it down with. Enjoy!

Dance: As is custom, there will be a dance at the beach at the end of the day. Great fires will roar and a band of robots will strike up music suitable for dancing! Dress up in your finest satin and velvet, brush the extrement off your shoes and grab a partner!

Enjoy!

Ehhh? I'm jealous. No one within my apartment cooks.

Well at least there's plenty of food around, though, right? Just like you said.

Maybe you all can learn how together?

Eh... I wonder about that.

[Would their apartment survive...]

There's no real harm in trying, right?

[Just potentially inedible things.]

Sure. If I bake or something, I'll be sure to bring you a sample.

That sounds fine.

[Not her fault if he had faith in her.]

Any particular requests?

Oh, um. I'm not really picky.

Sure. I'll leave it up to you.

[. . .]

I could make you something in return.

Judging your earlier reaction, I can't say I'm surprised. Is there anything you'd especially like?

I'm most accustomed to Japanese cuisine, to be honest, but even if I don't know it, I'll take a look at the library.

[His cooking was still flawless even during the year he spent while almost completely blind. It won't be much of a challenge.]

That's okay. I usually eat Japanese cuisine too. [It's what she's grown up with and prefers.] What about Okonomiyaki? Or Shogoyaki? Those are my favorites, I think.

[A smile rises up into place and she beams at him cheerfully. If there's one thing Yuuki likes, it's food. As well as good company. This way she gets both.]

I'm looking forward to trying it, then!

Then I'll let you know.

[he pauses in thought.]

You could probably just come to my place. [just a little amused, now.] My friend told me to not turn the apartment into a café, but I'm sure he won't mind this. He'll get something out of it, too.

I've been a cook at a café back home for several years. I don't know if I'd say prone to overcooking, but more like I'm used to doing so for numerous people.

[a little embarrassed, here] My first day I made enough curry to last Soushi and I at least four or five days. . .

Mmm...? [She tilts her head] Why don't you work for or take over one of the businesses here? It might give you something to do, and if you like cooking it could be enjoyable. Food brings people together, right?

Already have. Charlotte-san invited me to help her out at Daffodil Dive, so I'll be starting on that. I'll be looking into other things, too, though.
