DAY 365 — Anniversary Festival Mingle

Happy Day 365, Marina Nova!

Hear ye, hear ye! Inmates, prisoners, fellow underwater dwellers! Lend me your ears and hands and actually just bring all of you because we're having a ye olde Renaissance Faire to celebrate a full year in this bubble under the sea!

The dome has of course been decked out appropriately. Flickering torches light the pathways, interspersed with larger bonfires that you can cosy up to with that special someone - or perhaps just a glass of honey mead. Pennant banners hang across the gates and along the buildings, sporting the proud coat of arms of the prison (a lot of purple and octopi, for some reason) and many of the clothing stores offer time-appropriate options for those of you who still knows how to have fun. The kiosk has even been re-imagined into a castle.

Many areas within the dome has activities to partake in and, if you're skilled or lucky or both, prizes to win!

Sector 5 Gamegrounds: What better way to show your bravery than by participating in a series of tests of strength and cunning? Sector 5 provides the inmates with a chance to try such varied sports as varpa, caber tossing, ring toss or the very dignified sport of rövkrok, a type of wrestling that requires skill as well as no sense of shame. Not tough enough for you? There are also friendly foam weapons and armor available for those who want to engage in a chivalrous bout of hand to hand combat, test your archery skills — or maybe convince another prisoner to give you a piggyback ride and go jousting!

Competitors that do well enough and show outstanding bravery may be rewarded with a handful of rehab points, or a personalized pennant — or maybe a kiss from the lord or lady of your choosing!

Less violent activities: Not into skewering your neighbors on spears? Maybe you'd rather relax with a game of knucklebones, pick up sticks or Nine Men's Morris. Boards and instructions are readily available in several areas. If you're more creatively inclined there's also activity tables on offer where you can create your own coat of arms, bind yourself a flower crown or learn the art of illumination.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. Whole roasted pigs and poultry, wild rabbit in plum sauce, thick beef stews smelling of rich saffron, roasted vegetables (no potatoes here, no sir!) and cream-stewed cabbage for the vegetarians among us. If you're still hungry there's saffron pancake, ginger and clove cookies or bread pudding with raisins for dessert. There's plenty of mulled wine, honey mead, foaming beer, honeyd applewater and lingonberry juice to wash it down with. Enjoy!

Dance: As is custom, there will be a dance at the beach at the end of the day. Great fires will roar and a band of robots will strike up music suitable for dancing! Dress up in your finest satin and velvet, brush the extrement off your shoes and grab a partner!

Enjoy!

[Zero has been watching the other for a few moments, maybe more idly than not, before saying anything. He doesn't really seem fazed by the sight of that hand of his, apart from thinking that must be a challenge.]

They're easier said than done.

[. . . Says the one whose half-finished crown, with a clear pattern to the colors and flower types, looks fairly good.]

They are.

[A small sigh after a moment, though he is rather determined with his work. He puts it down for the moment, brows knit.]

I had attempted to try once or twice within my village in the past, but- [A second sigh] It usually caused a commotion.

[The village women clambering to make and give him one instead. At the very least it is peaceful enough doing so here.]

[He just blinks.]

How can flower crowns do something like that?

[Somehow, even the memory causes him to look exhausted.]

The moment I start suddenly I'm being handed dozens of different crowns from different women all at once. Apparently each is embed with the feelings of the maker and the makers are strong and dead set on marriage. The first time I thoughtlessly reached out to grab one it nearly ended in a blood bath. Even now I still have nightmares of the one time in which.... [This memory lane of horror will continue a moment more before he forcefully drags himself from it.]

This is the farthest I have gotten before, however. I will present it as a gift. [ . . . Essentially the same thing as in his village but only in the reverse. Shh. He means his innocently.]

That's really messed up. And they sound desperate.

[A man of many words. Really, though. Marriage isn't meant to be anything forceful.

. . .And while this guy is a total stranger, Zero decides to continue anyway.]

I'm sure whoever it's for will appreciate it.

They are simply over excited.

[But finally someone who agrees with him regarding marriage. He looks entirely pleased however by his assurance.]

Do you think so, though? [ ///// ]

[But of course... ] The princess is not the sort who would reject a gift. [He knows she would accept it regardless, but.... ♥]

I am just happy that she seems to be having fun.

Yeah. It's something you're putting effort into.

[Not that he even has an idea of what their relationship is like.]

That's better than complaining. None of us should be here at all, but you have to make the best of what you can.

It is the same as giving up before even trying.

[He expels a sigh before he continues on, however. While it certainly isn't the past to him, he supposes that if people have all of this technology magic, then it would appear that way.]

There is no such thing as lights that do not require a flame back home. Or communicators. Many of the terms and items here are foreign to me, and it has proved difficult to adjust to, even if some of these things make for great convenience. I am amazed at how little people seem to think of them.

It's not meant to offend.

[Just a little dry. You take it with a grain of salt, Kija.]

It's probably natural in a place like this that some may be from further back in time than others. I was only implying that you're the first I've spoken to whom even bathrooms were foreign to. There's nothing wrong about that.

Meanwhile to some, the concept of differing worlds and universes is as real to them as the sun in the sky is to us.

All there is to do is learn.
