DAY 365 — Anniversary Festival Mingle

Happy Day 365, Marina Nova!

Hear ye, hear ye! Inmates, prisoners, fellow underwater dwellers! Lend me your ears and hands and actually just bring all of you because we're having a ye olde Renaissance Faire to celebrate a full year in this bubble under the sea!

The dome has of course been decked out appropriately. Flickering torches light the pathways, interspersed with larger bonfires that you can cosy up to with that special someone - or perhaps just a glass of honey mead. Pennant banners hang across the gates and along the buildings, sporting the proud coat of arms of the prison (a lot of purple and octopi, for some reason) and many of the clothing stores offer time-appropriate options for those of you who still knows how to have fun. The kiosk has even been re-imagined into a castle.

Many areas within the dome has activities to partake in and, if you're skilled or lucky or both, prizes to win!

Sector 5 Gamegrounds: What better way to show your bravery than by participating in a series of tests of strength and cunning? Sector 5 provides the inmates with a chance to try such varied sports as varpa, caber tossing, ring toss or the very dignified sport of rövkrok, a type of wrestling that requires skill as well as no sense of shame. Not tough enough for you? There are also friendly foam weapons and armor available for those who want to engage in a chivalrous bout of hand to hand combat, test your archery skills — or maybe convince another prisoner to give you a piggyback ride and go jousting!

Competitors that do well enough and show outstanding bravery may be rewarded with a handful of rehab points, or a personalized pennant — or maybe a kiss from the lord or lady of your choosing!

Less violent activities: Not into skewering your neighbors on spears? Maybe you'd rather relax with a game of knucklebones, pick up sticks or Nine Men's Morris. Boards and instructions are readily available in several areas. If you're more creatively inclined there's also activity tables on offer where you can create your own coat of arms, bind yourself a flower crown or learn the art of illumination.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. Whole roasted pigs and poultry, wild rabbit in plum sauce, thick beef stews smelling of rich saffron, roasted vegetables (no potatoes here, no sir!) and cream-stewed cabbage for the vegetarians among us. If you're still hungry there's saffron pancake, ginger and clove cookies or bread pudding with raisins for dessert. There's plenty of mulled wine, honey mead, foaming beer, honeyd applewater and lingonberry juice to wash it down with. Enjoy!

Dance: As is custom, there will be a dance at the beach at the end of the day. Great fires will roar and a band of robots will strike up music suitable for dancing! Dress up in your finest satin and velvet, brush the extrement off your shoes and grab a partner!

Enjoy!

OOC: Assuming there were no kisses from the bots... otherwise this has to change..

[sarah was busy watching the feats of strength when she saw Carl walk up, look around, and then walk away.]

Hey! Wait up!

[She woveher way out of the crowd to chase after him.]

Sure we can assume that

[Carl turned back when he heard the sound of a familiar voice calling to him. He'd recognize that voice anywhere and when he saw who it was, he couldn't help the smile that crossed his face]

Hey. I didn't see you there. You look nice.

[And that earns a radiant smile his way.]

Like I said, I can never pass up an opportunity to dress up.

[Or did she tell someone else? Oh well. It didn't matter. Anyone who knew Sarah at all should expect her to dress for events provided she was comfortable with the idea.]

Where are you headed?

[She probably told him. That sounds familiar when she says that so he's not even going to question it at all. He expected her to dress up now, given the number of times he'd seen her dress up]

I was going to check out the food. Maybe see what some of the other games were.

[Both seem to be pretty decent choices. Like most teenagers, Sarah can eat just about anything at any time, and games are always fun.]

Can I join you?

Of course. I don't see why you couldn't.

[He gives her a smile. He's teasing a little. Of course he wouldn't mind her being there]

Great. How about food first? Then we can take a look at the games.

[Because Sarah definitely needs a turkey leg.]

Sounds good. So was there anything you were looking at? What looks good?

[Because Carl's not picky... not anymore]

How about the turkey legs. I'm starving!

Great! Let's try them. All this food around is making me hungry.

[Sarah leads him to the food cart without holding his hand. Once there, she orders two turkey legs. Since he said he wanted one and all. She holds them out to him to choose first.]

What have you been up to since the Superhero party?

[He follows her over to the food cart also not trying to hold her hand. When she offers him one of the two, he makes his selection of the two she was holding with a thanks]

I've been reading more of those books. It's strangely appropriate that they decided to have this festival right now.

Yeah? What do you think of them?

I like them. It's interesting to read about that world. Sometimes its nice to read about a world that doesn't exist, not like the one you are actually living in.

[That's why he liked reading comic books. He takes a bite of the turkey leg]

I know. As long as it turns out it's not actually real. Then it's a little more problematic.

[Stupid Jareth actually being a real person.]

2016-03-11 01:50 am UTC (link)
Yeah... that would be more problematic. Imagine some of the things in that book being real? That would be crazy.

You know what is crazy? How many things are real for some of the people here. Like... your super hero party? There are real super heroes here! And there's people who've traveled in space in ways we never could have dreamed of.

[Of course for Sarah, things like the internet are crazy too.]

[info]anothermonster
2016-03-11 02:44 am UTC (link)
Oh, yeah that is true. There are a lot of people doing things here that would be crazy back home. And I mean... not a lot of other worlds legitimately have zombies.

[As morbid as that is. He really is far more adapted to that life than one would hope]

I apparently have goblins in mine.

[She thinks. Sarah's not entirely sure how that all works.]

And yet, every time someone new comes with a new experience, I'm still surprised.

Goblins? Really? That's neat.

Yeah, it's surprising. I was talking to someone who basically hopped between worlds in his home solar system. Had never heard of Earth.

[Nice going Carl.]

No. But I'll figure out how to get him back some day. If ever I can find a way back into the Labyrinth.

Well, I'm sure you will at some point. Unfortunately there is not much I can do to help since its in your own world.

Maybe, if I find a way out, you could come with me. I'm sure you'd be a big help in the Labyrinth.
