DAY 365 — Anniversary Festival Mingle

Happy Day 365, Marina Nova!

Hear ye, hear ye! Inmates, prisoners, fellow underwater dwellers! Lend me your ears and hands and actually just bring all of you because we're having a ye olde Renaissance Faire to celebrate a full year in this bubble under the sea!

The dome has of course been decked out appropriately. Flickering torches light the pathways, interspersed with larger bonfires that you can cosy up to with that special someone - or perhaps just a glass of honey mead. Pennant banners hang across the gates and along the buildings, sporting the proud coat of arms of the prison (a lot of purple and octopi, for some reason) and many of the clothing stores offer time-appropriate options for those of you who still knows how to have fun. The kiosk has even been re-imagined into a castle.

Many areas within the dome has activities to partake in and, if you're skilled or lucky or both, prizes to win!

Sector 5 Gamegrounds: What better way to show your bravery than by participating in a series of tests of strength and cunning? Sector 5 provides the inmates with a chance to try such varied sports as varpa, caber tossing, ring toss or the very dignified sport of rövkrok, a type of wrestling that requires skill as well as no sense of shame. Not tough enough for you? There are also friendly foam weapons and armor available for those who want to engage in a chivalrous bout of hand to hand combat, test your archery skills — or maybe convince another prisoner to give you a piggyback ride and go jousting!

Competitors that do well enough and show outstanding bravery may be rewarded with a handful of rehab points, or a personalized pennant — or maybe a kiss from the lord or lady of your choosing!

Less violent activities: Not into skewering your neighbors on spears? Maybe you'd rather relax with a game of knucklebones, pick up sticks or Nine Men's Morris. Boards and instructions are readily available in several areas. If you're more creatively inclined there's also activity tables on offer where you can create your own coat of arms, bind yourself a flower crown or learn the art of illumination.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. Whole roasted pigs and poultry, wild rabbit in plum sauce, thick beef stews smelling of rich saffron, roasted vegetables (no potatoes here, no sir!) and cream-stewed cabbage for the vegetarians among us. If you're still hungry there's saffron pancake, ginger and clove cookies or bread pudding with raisins for dessert. There's plenty of mulled wine, honey mead, foaming beer, honeyd applewater and lingonberry juice to wash it down with. Enjoy!

Dance: As is custom, there will be a dance at the beach at the end of the day. Great fires will roar and a band of robots will strike up music suitable for dancing! Dress up in your finest satin and velvet, brush the extrement off your shoes and grab a partner!

Enjoy!

[Euphie turns and brightens seeing the girl she met so recently over the network.] Oh, Kaya, hello. How are you?

[Now seeing Euphie up close, she looks even more elegant and beautiful than onscreen. What an amazing dress!]

Hello! I'm actually fine. The inmate doctors said I was healthy.

Um, I wanted to say thank you in person. For your help the first day and for the basket.

Oh, that's wonderful news! [She smiles warmly at the other girl.] I'm so glad everything has turned out well for you. [You know, as well as it can when you're also trapped in a prison. Details.]

You don't have to thank me. It was really the least I could do. [Okay, she could have done less, but she likes to help. She wants people to be happy and feel welcome here so it can feel more like a home than a prison.]

It is! That means I can actually be around people and I didn't have to miss this festival!

I still want to. No one has ever given me so many things together before. It's like a basket full of treasures.

I'm glad you like them. We have much here. [She could have gotten any of it from the store herself, but Euphie did think there was something nice about getting something from the rest of the group to show they are welcome.] I probably don't always appreciate it the way I should. [It's not that she looks down on it, but she's always had things. As a princess that came easily and she had to work to see the world through different eyes.]

I try to appreciate everything I can get! I had very little because I lived alone and far away from people for a good time. My old village wasn't rich but we were fine. I don't know how it's like for others here. Maybe what they have here is too little? Maybe too much?

That food was delicious. I had never tried stuff like that.

[That sounds so lonely to her. She could do without the things, but the people?] What sorts of foods are you used to eating?

Um... Vegetables, and also rice when Zeno got paid. Berries and fruits from the forest when it's the season. Meat once in a while. I've never seen as much meat as today!

You will certainly be able to find those here too if you want the familiarity too. But, yes, today does seem very much about the meat, doesn't it?

That's good, but it's really fun to try new flavors. So for the time being, new tastes and food are fine. Those cookies in the basket were so sweet and we really liked that.

People must like meat a lot! It's surprising because you'd think it's easier to get fish here.

Ah, yes, you'd think it would be. [She'd never really wondered about how they get all the food, but now that she is she's realizing it's just because it isn't real. That must mean it's all equally easy.]

You know if you like sweet things you might like Chill. It has ice cream and various other treats.

Oh well, meat is really good too. I'm not picky and I don't mind.

Chill? What is that, a store?

It's a frozen dairy treat. And you can get it in different flavors. Strawberry is my favorite.

Frozen? Is it possible to eat frozen food? It's kinda warm now so I'd think it would melt soon. Amazing.

[This place being so weird, she misunderstands and thinks the technology-magic-thing would keep it frozen forever.]

Oh, yes, it's possible to eat it, but you need to do it before it melts. There's usually time unless it's an especially hot day or you eat slowly or you take too much ice cream at a time. [Is there such a thing as too much ice cream?]

[That gets a warm smile. Hide your ice cream, it could melt faster with such smiles around!]

That's a fun way of looking at it, but you also shouldn't eat it too fast. Sometimes it can give you a headache.

[Next to these two, any ice cream would be water in seconds.]

Oh, true! When I was little, a kid in our village tried to eat snow once and it hurt him.

Oh, yes, of course. It's as if I forgot my own warning. [She'd taken the hurt to be more serious. She's relieved it is not.] Maybe I'm too excited about the festivities to think straight.

It's alright, it happens. I didn't think much of it because ice cream isn't entirely ice, so maybe it hurts less than pure ice?

It may. I know I've tasted snow before, but never much at a time.
