DAY 365 — Anniversary Festival Mingle

Happy Day 365, Marina Nova!

Hear ye, hear ye! Inmates, prisoners, fellow underwater dwellers! Lend me your ears and hands and actually just bring all of you because we're having a ye olde Renaissance Faire to celebrate a full year in this bubble under the sea!

The dome has of course been decked out appropriately. Flickering torches light the pathways, interspersed with larger bonfires that you can cosy up to with that special someone - or perhaps just a glass of honey mead. Pennant banners hang across the gates and along the buildings, sporting the proud coat of arms of the prison (a lot of purple and octopi, for some reason) and many of the clothing stores offer time-appropriate options for those of you who still knows how to have fun. The kiosk has even been re-imagined into a castle.

Many areas within the dome has activities to partake in and, if you're skilled or lucky or both, prizes to win!

Sector 5 Gamegrounds: What better way to show your bravery than by participating in a series of tests of strength and cunning? Sector 5 provides the inmates with a chance to try such varied sports as varpa, caber tossing, ring toss or the very dignified sport of rövkrok, a type of wrestling that requires skill as well as no sense of shame. Not tough enough for you? There are also friendly foam weapons and armor available for those who want to engage in a chivalrous bout of hand to hand combat, test your archery skills — or maybe convince another prisoner to give you a piggyback ride and go jousting!

Competitors that do well enough and show outstanding bravery may be rewarded with a handful of rehab points, or a personalized pennant — or maybe a kiss from the lord or lady of your choosing!

Less violent activities: Not into skewering your neighbors on spears? Maybe you'd rather relax with a game of knucklebones, pick up sticks or Nine Men's Morris. Boards and instructions are readily available in several areas. If you're more creatively inclined there's also activity tables on offer where you can create your own coat of arms, bind yourself a flower crown or learn the art of illumination.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. Whole roasted pigs and poultry, wild rabbit in plum sauce, thick beef stews smelling of rich saffron, roasted vegetables (no potatoes here, no sir!) and cream-stewed cabbage for the vegetarians among us. If you're still hungry there's saffron pancake, ginger and clove cookies or bread pudding with raisins for dessert. There's plenty of mulled wine, honey mead, foaming beer, honeyd applewater and lingonberry juice to wash it down with. Enjoy!

Dance: As is custom, there will be a dance at the beach at the end of the day. Great fires will roar and a band of robots will strike up music suitable for dancing! Dress up in your finest satin and velvet, brush the extrement off your shoes and grab a partner!

Enjoy!

[Well, well, a familiar face. Not that she had really been a stranger though]

Well, I am trying not to. Thank you though. I've had a few who wanted to try.

[It was probably both knowing Haruka]

They learned their lesson quickly. [ Since you were alone when she found you.

And now that she's sitting here, Haruka realizes she isn't sure whether she's played this game before or not.

Oh well. She'll figure it out. ]

Yes, it definitely seems like they did.

[Doesn't necessarily mean they are connected. She smiles at Haruka]

Care to give it a try?

Don't hold back. [ The look she's giving Michiru is usually saved for other environments.

Yes, this is a silly party full of silly games to play. But she supposes she can get into a silly mood for once.

For you. ]

[Michiru chuckles and begins setting up the board again. She can see that look that Haruka is giving her and she can't help but give Haruka playful smirk back]

Do you want me to explain how the game is played or do you just want to go for it?

You can go first. [ That both is and isn't an answer. She's confident that she can pick this up without an explanation. ]

[Well, that gives her the advantage of going first. She takes the white pieces, giving Haruka the black. She places one of her pieces on the board]

Now we take turns putting out one of our pieces until they are all out.

[ Haruka prefers going second in all games. Assessing the opponent's skill level allows her to know how much she actually has to try. In her experience, she rarely has to give anything her all.

Playing a game against Michiru may be another matter, though.

She places a piece down at random on the board just to see what will happen. Early game for experimenting. Endgame to finish her opponent off. ]
Simple enough.

[Well, the real game didn't start until all of the pieces were out. So Michiru continued to set her pieces out, of course pausing so Haruka could set hers out as well. She knew Haruka and she was fairly confident in her abilities to win again her, not letting that show]

[ Haruka has a feeling that's the case anyway. She gets all her pieces on the board too and then smiles expectantly. You may attempt to crush her at any point. ]

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

oop, forgot part of the rules oh well

[Michiru decided to take a bit easier on Haruka, but only a bit. She had offered to give Haruka the rules, but since she hadn't taken the chance... Michiru moves a piece to make a line of three and removes one of Haruka's pieces from the board]

[ Ah. It's that sort of game. Haruka looks for a place where she can mimic a similar move, and makes it. ] What else have you tried so far?

[ Smalltalk during a game gives an air of nonchalance to the affair, doesn't it? ]

[She knew Haruka was smart and would pick this up quickly so she didn't even take the chance to give Haruka an edge. She moved her next piece]

I've tried some food. It was quite good. I've been interesting trying the dancing.

To try dancing? I'm sure it would. I wonder if anyone would be willing to try.

[And now she moves another piece and takes one of Haruka's, giving her a sly smile]

[Michiru has definitely played this game before so she's studying the board to find the best moves. She waits patiently for Haruka to make another move]

Well, let me know if you find someone.

[ Haruka does end up finding the best possible move she can make under the circumstances. There. Take that. ] Will do.

[ If she can't find anybody she supposes she could be your dance partner herself. Or maybe she'll just skip the whole search thing.

What a mystery. ]

[What a mystery indeed. Michiru would be surprised if she actually went to look for anyone to dance with her.

Michiru makes her next move. She can't take another piece yet, but she's setting it up]

Wonderful.

[ Michiru is up to something. Haruka abandons the teasing conversation to consider her options. If she moves...like this....will she disrupt Michiru's plan or play right into it? ]

[Michiru waits patiently, lacing her fingers together as she watched Haruka debate. She can practically see the wheels turning as Haruka debates the options.

When Haruka moves, she makes another move and takes a piece]
