DAY 365 — Anniversary Festival Mingle

Happy Day 365, Marina Nova!

Hear ye, hear ye! Inmates, prisoners, fellow underwater dwellers! Lend me your ears and hands and actually just bring all of you because we're having a ye olde Renaissance Faire to celebrate a full year in this bubble under the sea!

The dome has of course been decked out appropriately. Flickering torches light the pathways, interspersed with larger bonfires that you can cosy up to with that special someone - or perhaps just a glass of honey mead. Pennant banners hang across the gates and along the buildings, sporting the proud coat of arms of the prison (a lot of purple and octopi, for some reason) and many of the clothing stores offer time-appropriate options for those of you who still knows how to have fun. The kiosk has even been re-imagined into a castle.

Many areas within the dome has activities to partake in and, if you're skilled or lucky or both, prizes to win!

Sector 5 Gamegrounds: What better way to show your bravery than by participating in a series of tests of strength and cunning? Sector 5 provides the inmates with a chance to try such varied sports as varpa, caber tossing, ring toss or the very dignified sport of rövkrok, a type of wrestling that requires skill as well as no sense of shame. Not tough enough for you? There are also friendly foam weapons and armor available for those who want to engage in a chivalrous bout of hand to hand combat, test your archery skills — or maybe convince another prisoner to give you a piggyback ride and go jousting!

Competitors that do well enough and show outstanding bravery may be rewarded with a handful of rehab points, or a personalized pennant — or maybe a kiss from the lord or lady of your choosing!

Less violent activities: Not into skewering your neighbors on spears? Maybe you'd rather relax with a game of knucklebones, pick up sticks or Nine Men's Morris. Boards and instructions are readily available in several areas. If you're more creatively inclined there's also activity tables on offer where you can create your own coat of arms, bind yourself a flower crown or learn the art of illumination.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. Whole roasted pigs and poultry, wild rabbit in plum sauce, thick beef stews smelling of rich saffron, roasted vegetables (no potatoes here, no sir!) and cream-stewed cabbage for the vegetarians among us. If you're still hungry there's saffron pancake, ginger and clove cookies or bread pudding with raisins for dessert. There's plenty of mulled wine, honey mead, foaming beer, honeyd applewater and lingonberry juice to wash it down with. Enjoy!

Dance: As is custom, there will be a dance at the beach at the end of the day. Great fires will roar and a band of robots will strike up music suitable for dancing! Dress up in your finest satin and velvet, brush the extrement off your shoes and grab a partner!

Enjoy!

[Kaya has only been in Marina for two days, but she wasn't feeling sad about being trapped there. She was healthy. She had been living with her love and his interesting friends in an apartment that was too large for them. Everyone in here had been extremely nice to her. She has her concerns, but none that was related to the prison.

She doesn't know what Renaissance means, but she had been in the festivals of the little village where she grew up and it looked like a much massive version of it. There was never that amount of meat and drinks, granted, or the strange games. The outfits were absolutely different to what she was used to. The amount of people was a bit overwhelming. But it was all fun! She was glad to tag along with the others and be able to attend. In her wildest dreams she hadn't thought she'd go to a festival again in her life! And the cute green dress she picked is simple, but it makes her feel like a princess.

You can see her today mostly braiding flower crowns. She really likes flowers, and wants to make one for herself and one for Zeno, at least. Some of the species are alien to her, but that makes it more fun. Her crowns are a mixmatch of all colors of both wild flowers and fancy garden varieties. She doesn't care if they match or not as long as they look cute. Come sit with her and chat!

She'll also see other people play games and show their skills. You may invite her for the mildest games, but otherwise she'll feel a bit too self-conscious to try anything without invitation or a partner. She had been on her deathbed days ago, and while she's fine now she still is an average girl strength wise. But she'll do her best!

For lunch, she will try all the food, but she finds the rabbit, the pancakes, and the cookies more to her tastes. She tries some wine and some mead, and then giggles a little.

Later in the beach, Kaya has a great time. She had never been to a beach before and doesn't how there can be one underwater, but she doesn't care. Kaya knows some traditional dances from her old village's holidays. Even if it's not the same kind of music, she'll be happily twirling around. Alone or with a partner, she's okay either way. She waits for a certain someone to invite her, but anyone is fine in the meantime.]

[She doesn't even have a partner for the game. Yuuki's playing pick up sticks by herself, and has her brows knit within intense concentration as she tries to carefully pull the next stick out without disturbing the rest...

This is hard. When she pulls one and disturbs another she sighs, expelling a breath. Ah well. That's when she notices the girl watching her with interest not all that far away, though. With a smile she sits up a bit straighter and beckons her over.]

Did you want to play too? It's probably more fun with two people rather than playing by myself.

[Ah, the pretty girl over there talked to her! Kaya points out at herself with a quizzical look, and when it's clear the other person did mean her, she frets a bit and walks toward her.]

Really? Is it really okay by you?

Yes, of course.

[She looks so surprised.]

Please join me! It's kind of embarrassing sitting here playing all alone.

Okay! [She goes next to Yuuki and glances at the sticks.] Who starts?

Hold on.

[She'll gather them up and drop them again so that they can continue from the start.]

Since I dropped them, why don't you go?

Sure!

[She laughs, smiling in good nature.]

It's okay! It's only for fun. [So there's no need for perfection.] My name is Yuuki, by the way. Yuuki Kuran.

I'm Kaya, nice to meet you!

[That earns another laugh and she shrugs her shoulders]

I guess that's true! I'm not super good though, either. So it'll make for a more exciting game. [Or so she thinks.]

It's good to meet you too, Kaya-san. How long have you been here? [Reaching now to remove a stick, Yuuki ends up doing so without jostling any of the others for her first try.]

Oh... [A sympathetic frown.] I'm sorry, then. All of this must be fresh. I'm sorry you've been dragged into this place. No one deserves to be pulled into some ornate experiment.

Like a what...? [She really doesn't understand what Yuuki just said.] I don't mind being here. It just gave me some extra time, and the food is really good, and I actually got to see the sea. This festival is amazing, too. I'm having fun!

[Really, the only problem she has is the mess that's Zeno's timeline and the total lack of explanation they've all received by him, but that's not the place's fault.]

[The festival is also much more widespread for Kazuki. Not that the Obon Festival was ever a bad thing, but compared to Marina, the island he calls home seems even smaller than it really is. He can appreciate the warmth and liveliness all the same.

When he spots her in passing, it's the crown that catches him.]

Okay, you first need something to make the circle. Back at home I'd make a rope out of stems and use it, but here they have this harder thingie. [She hands out foldable wire.] You need to make a circlet with it, and make sure it's a bit smaller than the size of the person's head.

[info]soukyuu
2016-03-10 03:38 am UTC (link)
[He takes one of the wires while listening.]

That sounds like it would be even more tricky.

[Not that he's clumsy with his hands. Instead he's carefully forming a circle. He really isn't making it for anyone in particular, merely wanting to try something new, though the idea of Soushi wearing it is incredibly amusing.]

Knitting stems? It's not that hard after you get the hang of it. It's harder to just knit flowers by their stems together from the start. Okay, now that we have the ring, let's pick what kind of flowers you want to do. Larger open ones are better, at least for the main body.
