DAY 365 — Anniversary Festival Mingle

Happy Day 365, Marina Nova!

Hear ye, hear ye! Inmates, prisoners, fellow underwater dwellers! Lend me your ears and hands and actually just bring all of you because we're having a ye olde Renaissance Faire to celebrate a full year in this bubble under the sea!

The dome has of course been decked out appropriately. Flickering torches light the pathways, interspersed with larger bonfires that you can cosy up to with that special someone - or perhaps just a glass of honey mead. Pennant banners hang across the gates and along the buildings, sporting the proud coat of arms of the prison (a lot of purple and octopi, for some reason) and many of the clothing stores offer time-appropriate options for those of you who still knows how to have fun. The kiosk has even been re-imagined into a castle.

Many areas within the dome has activities to partake in and, if you're skilled or lucky or both, prizes to win!

Sector 5 Gamegrounds: What better way to show your bravery than by participating in a series of tests of strength and cunning? Sector 5 provides the inmates with a chance to try such varied sports as varpa, caber tossing, ring toss or the very dignified sport of rövkrok, a type of wrestling that requires skill as well as no sense of shame. Not tough enough for you? There are also friendly foam weapons and armor available for those who want to engage in a chivalrous bout of hand to hand combat, test your archery skills — or maybe convince another prisoner to give you a piggyback ride and go jousting!

Competitors that do well enough and show outstanding bravery may be rewarded with a handful of rehab points, or a personalized pennant — or maybe a kiss from the lord or lady of your choosing!

Less violent activities: Not into skewering your neighbors on spears? Maybe you'd rather relax with a game of knucklebones, pick up sticks or Nine Men's Morris. Boards and instructions are readily available in several areas. If you're more creatively inclined there's also activity tables on offer where you can create your own coat of arms, bind yourself a flower crown or learn the art of illumination.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. Whole roasted pigs and poultry, wild rabbit in plum sauce, thick beef stews smelling of rich saffron, roasted vegetables (no potatoes here, no sir!) and cream-stewed cabbage for the vegetarians among us. If you're still hungry there's saffron pancake, ginger and clove cookies or bread pudding with raisins for dessert. There's plenty of mulled wine, honey mead, foaming beer, honeyd applewater and lingonberry juice to wash it down with. Enjoy!

Dance: As is custom, there will be a dance at the beach at the end of the day. Great fires will roar and a band of robots will strike up music suitable for dancing! Dress up in your finest satin and velvet, brush the extrement off your shoes and grab a partner!

Enjoy!

[ leia dismisses that with a wave of her blue-banded hand. she's a dignitary. her "style" is a carefully constructed image that has little do with personal preference and everything to do with the way she needs to be perceived. ]

Nothing wrong with that. Dresses aren't for everyone.

They're definitely harder to fight in when they're this long. Not that I really expect this to turn into fighting. [She means the whole dance, not her exchange with Leia specifically for what it's worth.]

[ a shrug of indifference. ]

Maybe. It can be, but I haven't had that problem. [ not that she hasn't fought in a dress. she's done that plenty of times. ] Sometimes I prefer them. [ easier to conceal weapons in the bodice of a complicated gown. ]

Flipping tables with your mind probably works about the same either way. [It's the force, Kitty, not her mind.]

Flipping tables with the Force isn't something I'm interested in discussing right now, Miss Pryde.

Ouch. Miss Pryde even. [She bites back the correction to "Mrs." because it's not really relevant anymore sans husband.]

I wasn't trying to start anything.

I'm sure that wasn't your intention, but as you can likely tell from our last conversation, there are certain things I won't discuss.

[Is that because you only yell about them?]

So, safe topics include the weather, the local sports team, and fill in the blank here?

I don't understand why you insist on holding a conversation with me. We're not friends, and I'm not your competition anymore. [ she raises a hand to tuck an errant strand of hair behind one ear — the one with the blue band, put deliberately on display. ] I never really was.

Should you need my assistance in a professional capacity, I'm happy to provide it, but otherwise, I ask that you please allow me some space to enjoy today's festivities instead of arguing with you about things I do not wish to discuss.

[Kitty is a little bit irked at the note on competition. She'd never actually held any of that against Leia. Maybe that's just the mature thing and doesn't deserve any applause, but it feels like there's an implication that the only reason she might be talking to her is to keep her enemies closer or something. She even felt some sympathy for her with Han arriving. Reid had explained enough for her to not be surprised by the blue band.

But it's really the "not friends" thing that hurts. Probably no reason for it to. It's not an untrue statement, but while a couple of their interactions had been bad, she thought most had been fine. Maybe they weren't friends, but she'd had a certain amount of respect for her and didn't think they couldn't be. Until right about now.

Of course Kitty could have tried being a little friendlier if friendship was her goal. It's been almost a year of prison and she's grown a lot, but there are still sharp edges forged at home that haven't been polished back.]

You know what, I don't either. Push away as many people as you want. [Reid had said as much had happened to him too.]

Enjoy. [The nice thing about being a mutant with intangibility is never having to wait for crowds to part if you want to move through them.]
