DAY 365 — Anniversary Festival Mingle

Happy Day 365, Marina Nova!

Hear ye, hear ye! Inmates, prisoners, fellow underwater dwellers! Lend me your ears and hands and actually just bring all of you because we're having a ye olde Renaissance Faire to celebrate a full year in this bubble under the sea!

The dome has of course been decked out appropriately. Flickering torches light the pathways, interspersed with larger bonfires that you can cosy up to with that special someone - or perhaps just a glass of honey mead. Pennant banners hang across the gates and along the buildings, sporting the proud coat of arms of the prison (a lot of purple and octopi, for some reason) and many of the clothing stores offer time-appropriate options for those of you who still knows how to have fun. The kiosk has even been re-imagined into a castle.

Many areas within the dome has activities to partake in and, if you're skilled or lucky or both, prizes to win!

Sector 5 Gamegrounds: What better way to show your bravery than by participating in a series of tests of strength and cunning? Sector 5 provides the inmates with a chance to try such varied sports as varpa, caber tossing, ring toss or the very dignified sport of rövkrok, a type of wrestling that requires skill as well as no sense of shame. Not tough enough for you? There are also friendly foam weapons and armor available for those who want to engage in a chivalrous bout of hand to hand combat, test your archery skills — or maybe convince another prisoner to give you a piggyback ride and go jousting!

Competitors that do well enough and show outstanding bravery may be rewarded with a handful of rehab points, or a personalized pennant — or maybe a kiss from the lord or lady of your choosing!

Less violent activities: Not into skewering your neighbors on spears? Maybe you'd rather relax with a game of knucklebones, pick up sticks or Nine Men's Morris. Boards and instructions are readily available in several areas. If you're more creatively inclined there's also activity tables on offer where you can create your own coat of arms, bind yourself a flower crown or learn the art of illumination.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. Whole roasted pigs and poultry, wild rabbit in plum sauce, thick beef stews smelling of rich saffron, roasted vegetables (no potatoes here, no sir!) and cream-stewed cabbage for the vegetarians among us. If you're still hungry there's saffron pancake, ginger and clove cookies or bread pudding with raisins for dessert. There's plenty of mulled wine, honey mead, foaming beer, honeyd applewater and lingonberry juice to wash it down with. Enjoy!

Dance: As is custom, there will be a dance at the beach at the end of the day. Great fires will roar and a band of robots will strike up music suitable for dancing! Dress up in your finest satin and velvet, brush the extrement off your shoes and grab a partner!

Enjoy!

I don't know what you're talking about.

[Getting him to check out the festival was not the hard part, admittedly. Soushi had been interested in attending upon hearing about it. But he'd taken one look at the clothing and refused. At first, anyway. Somehow his friend had managed to coerce him into wearing a ridiculous outfit rather than something he was quite comfortable in. He would rather be wearing a yukata.

Soushi merely glances at Kazuki as a piece of his food is swiped but doesn't complain. There's no way he can eat all of it anyway.]

Hopefully you won't bring home a whole pig.

[Not even a small one. However, he's all about encouraging Kazuki to learn to cook new things. Opportunities like this one doesn't come around often.]

you're a terrible liar

[Well it's not as if they'll be in said costumes for hours. At some point he might return to the apartment to change before going out again.]

Of course not.

[He's playing a little. But really, no, the stores have more than enough. He might want to go fishing at some point, though.]

I wonder where all of this comes from, though. . .

[Even on the island they have a way of managing their food supply, including livestock. Still, even on its own this festival is serving up more meat dishes than Kazuki is sure he's ever seen in his entire life.]

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

no I'm not

[This "celebration" could go on all day, it happened. If Kazuki returns to change, Soushi will as well because he will not be the only one still wearing a costume.]

Just making sure.

[A hint of teasing in return that most wouldn't be able to pick up on. Good luck with fishing.]

They may have a port where inmates can't go.

[That is one thing that Soushi intends to investigate. There are bits and pieces of this world that are similar to Tatsumiya only he doesn't have any answers.]

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

nope. the worst.

I'll just have to think of a different way to surprise you.

[More playing. Although he might just have to do something. It doesn't have to be outlandish or anything. There are surprising elements all over the dome.

He just nods to that.]

Another thing to ask around about, as well. I know there's a number of people who have been here for a long while.

lies, those are lies

You'll manage somehow.

[Like showing up with food after he'd been working was surprising. Even after all this time after they were reunited, Kazuki still manages to catch him off-guard.]

We may not like the answer. [A possibility they'll have to keep in mind. They already rejected the clone theory but that one is easy to dispute.]

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

so you're denying him

[Kazuki just likes being around him, or being able to brighten his mood. He feels completely at ease. That much is obvious.]

I know. [He looks down to his plate for a moment, as if it has all the answers.] I'm not going to hold any high expectations.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

always.

[Sure, and it had nothing to do with getting away from the people who were so grateful to him for giving them the ability to fight the Festum.

There isn't much point in dwelling on what they might or might not find.

So Soushi moves away from it for now. This is supposed to be a celebration.

Which is why he picks up something off his plate and places it on Kazuki's.]
Try this, it's fairly good.

[A little sweet for his taste.]

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

playing hard to get will only make him want u more, u know

[The way the topic shifts back to the present really is appreciated. They'll have time for more serious matters later.]

Oh?

[He picks it up, inspecting it a little (some kind of pastry), before taking a bite. It certainly is on the sweet side, but rather good.]

. . . I'll have to look for the recipe for this, too.

[Just like everything else.]

Have you tried any of the drinks?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

good, want him so bad that it hurts... o wait, it already does

[They have serious conversations in between their not-so-serious ones. It helps balance it all out. It wouldn't be good if one of them started to panic due to their situation.

He watches Kazuki eat it out of the corner of his eye, almost satisfied when he does.]

We've got the kitchen for it, you might as well.

[At that there is the smallest wrinkle of his nose that most would miss.]

They're too sweet and I avoided the alcoholic ones.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

...suddenly I hate you almost as much as I love you

I will, then. [Amused] Don't worry. I don't plan on breaking my promise to not turn our apartment into a café.

[Although maybe he'll give Yuuki some of the sweet things.]

I don't think all of them would be. [He glances to his mug set on the corner of the nearby table.] Someone mentioned that the alcohol content in some is practically nonexistent.

this is how Fafner goes so I know I'm doing my job right.

I don't mind if you do all of your cooking at home, just don't invite the entire prison over all of the time.

[It's not as though Soushi has any intent to spend a lot of time in their kitchen. He knows he's not a natural cook and what he does make is simple.

Giving away the sweet things is a good idea.

Soushi follows his friend's glance.]
What are you drinking?

[He sniffed some of the beverages and it just smelled too sweet for his taste. While he doesn't mind it being a little sweet, Soushi does not like too much.]

Did they?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

god damn you

We should check out the restaurants as well. There's probably a bunch of them. I will, though. [he watches him a little curiously.] Maybe I could teach you a few things, too, if you'd ever want?

[Not that Kazuki is at all a teacher-type. It could be fun.]

Mead. I think. It's not too sweet. [He overheard that as well. He pauses, however, suddenly feeling foolish.] Or maybe they personally consider it a low content. . .

[Maybe he shouldn't drink anymore.]

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

you love me

There certainly are a lot of them. They're bound to serve foods we've not had before. [Foods that were lost when the world ended.] I know enough to get by and can make anything that has a recipe.

[It's better than saying that he has a vending machine eleven steps away. Because they both know he was eating every meal from that vending machine.]

Besides, nothing I made would ever taste as good as your food.

[Not that he's going to rely on Kazuki to make all of their meals. Soushi will make food for the both of them occasionally.]

It's not too sweet by your standards or by mine? [Seeing how many times he's come by the cafe, Kazuki should know how sweet Soushi will accept things.] How much have you had already?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

All the more reason to try as many as we can.

[He doesn't need to say it because Kazuki already knows. Damn vending machine.]

That's not necessarily true. [smiling to that, pleased just at the thought.] Don't be so pessimistic.

[He doesn't really need to think to know.] More so mine. It'd likely be too much for you. Also, that's the only glass I've had.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

We will. I'm sure we'll go to ever restaurant.

[That vending machine was his main source of food, okay? Don't diss the machine.]

I'm not being pessimistic, merely realistic.

[He holds out a hand. Soushi will at least take a sip to try it.] What else have you tried?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

I'll ask around for recommendations, too, then.

[Something to look forward to!]

And I'm saying I'll enjoy what you make for us.

[Because it's you, okay, Soushi.

He gets the drink to hand over.]

There was this berry juice, but that was too sweet even for me. And another which I think was wine.
