DAY 365 — Anniversary Festival Mingle

Happy Day 365, Marina Nova!

Hear ye, hear ye! Inmates, prisoners, fellow underwater dwellers! Lend me your ears and hands and actually just bring all of you because we're having a ye olde Renaissance Faire to celebrate a full year in this bubble under the sea!

The dome has of course been decked out appropriately. Flickering torches light the pathways, interspersed with larger bonfires that you can cosy up to with that special someone - or perhaps just a glass of honey mead. Pennant banners hang across the gates and along the buildings, sporting the proud coat of arms of the prison (a lot of purple and octopi, for some reason) and many of the clothing stores offer time-appropriate options for those of you who still knows how to have fun. The kiosk has even been re-imagined into a castle.

Many areas within the dome has activities to partake in and, if you're skilled or lucky or both, prizes to win!

Sector 5 Gamegrounds: What better way to show your bravery than by participating in a series of tests of strength and cunning? Sector 5 provides the inmates with a chance to try such varied sports as varpa, caber tossing, ring toss or the very dignified sport of rövkrok, a type of wrestling that requires skill as well as no sense of shame. Not tough enough for you? There are also friendly foam weapons and armor available for those who want to engage in a chivalrous bout of hand to hand combat, test your archery skills — or maybe convince another prisoner to give you a piggyback ride and go jousting!

Competitors that do well enough and show outstanding bravery may be rewarded with a handful of rehab points, or a personalized pennant — or maybe a kiss from the lord or lady of your choosing!

Less violent activities: Not into skewering your neighbors on spears? Maybe you'd rather relax with a game of knucklebones, pick up sticks or Nine Men's Morris. Boards and instructions are readily available in several areas. If you're more creatively inclined there's also activity tables on offer where you can create your own coat of arms, bind yourself a flower crown or learn the art of illumination.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. Whole roasted pigs and poultry, wild rabbit in plum sauce, thick beef stews smelling of rich saffron, roasted vegetables (no potatoes here, no sir!) and cream-stewed cabbage for the vegetarians among us. If you're still hungry there's saffron pancake, ginger and clove cookies or bread pudding with raisins for dessert. There's plenty of mulled wine, honey mead, foaming beer, honeyd applewater and lingonberry juice to wash it down with. Enjoy!

Dance: As is custom, there will be a dance at the beach at the end of the day. Great fires will roar and a band of robots will strike up music suitable for dancing! Dress up in your finest satin and velvet, brush the extrement off your shoes and grab a partner!

Enjoy!

[Party? What? How did there always end up being so many of these?

These were the thoughts of someone who was not particularly social, but he still decided to go to the party. He had his normal clothes on, which were no where near fitting for a Ren Faire, but somewhere along the way he had ended up with a hat. Apparently the odd had was okay, but the clothes were not.

Trowa could pretty much be found wandering. For a while he was over at the more physical feats provided, given his own abilities, before wandering back over the other activities.

Would someone be able to get him to dance? We'll see]

[Well, someone who wasn't dressed up stood out in his own way. While Victor had decided to just put on the clothes scholars wore during the Renaissance - after all, he didn't intend to stick out too much himself - he could kinda relate why one wouldn't want to do so.]

Not feeling like dressing up?

[He probably stood out more for the fact that the only thing period appropriate he had on was a hat. He glanced over as the other walked over]

I'm not sure. I wouldn't even really know where to start.

[Excuses, excuses]

Ah, well, there is a wide variety of costumes to chose from. [And some looked really strange for the more modern eye.]

Perhaps I could help you pick one?

There are definitely a lot. [He says this as he glances around at the different costumes that people were wearing. He really had no idea how to chose something and didn't even know if he wanted to.

Until the question was asked]

If you want. I don't know much about this.

[Well, he didn't seem entirely unwilling, so that was definitely a start.]

Is there some kind of profession you feel attached to? That's how I chose my clothes.

[Nope, not entirely. He could have been much more unwilling]

I'm an acrobat at the circus.

[Not telling someone he was Gundam pilot. How would that even translate into this time period? Was there even a fashion for that?]

An acrobat? Hmm, I don't think circus did exist like that back then...

[This was a bit trickier than his own profession, that much was sure.] If we stretch the meaning into one f an entertainer, though, perhaps a knight, a taunter or a jester might be fitting?

I'm not sure. I don't know how long circuses have been going on.

A jester? A possibility, but I don't really tell jokes.

I guess it really depends on how road you accept the definition of "circus".

Un, I don't think anyone really expects you to. It's just for show.

[He's a little too literal sometimes]

What kind of things would a jester wear?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[Apparently so.]

They usually wear colorful clothes, kind of a tunic, often with two dominating colors and a horned hat matching it.

[Trowa was quite for a long moment as he considered what Victor had said about the clothing. It sounded very similiar to what he wore when he was performing: shirt being white and blue and pants being green with yellow stars]

I could do that I think. I wonder what options there are with that.

[Success!]

We could look around a little, to see if any of the jester costumes strikes your fancy.

[Trowa nods, agreeing that yes, they would go around and look for an appropriate jester costume]

My name is Trowa.

[Since they were going to be spending some time together]

Leia.

[It has been a while]

You look very nice... Beautiful.

[Definitely a little awkward with saying that, but he was trying]

There were plenty of options at the stores, but those options aren't for everyone. I wouldn't have bothered if I hadn't found something I liked.

[ which, on the flip side, was an excuse to dress up when she didn't always have the opportunity (or resources, in all honestly) to do so back home. ]

I looked at the stores, but I didn't know what to make of the costumes.

[Except for his hat... the hat is fine]

It does look nice. I suppose though you wouldn't be wearing it if you didn't like it.

Some of them are a little on the odd side.

[ she imagines they make a lot more sense in context, but she's missing a lot of that knowledge that makes earth culture seem less bizarre. ]

I don't know about that. I've worn plenty of dresses I hated for the sheer sake of having to.

They are. Especially since those costumes are no longer considered fashion, at least where I am from.

Uniforms then? [That was the first thing that came to mind when thinking of an outfit someone would not want to wear]

They're hardly fashion on any of the known worlds I've been to. [ some of them, anyway. like whatever ton insists on wearing. ]

Ah, no. I'm a Princess of Alderaan. Dress requirement is part of the station.

Princess? Yes, that is a position where you would need to wear outfits out of tradition.

[He speaks like he has some knowledge. Can't be because he's met at a princess in his own world...]
