Day 331 (strange relations) / Open Video / Picnic Mingle
[Have Euphie's smiling face on the screen. Kanji and I would like to invite you all to a picnic today! Of course we want to see all our family there, but friends and soon-to-be friends too. [That means strangers.]

You don't have to worry about bringing anything, but if you'd like to bring something extra to share or a game that would be fun or even just an extra blanket just in case that would always be welcome.

We'll be in Trois Park near the koi pond and fountain at noon today.

[There will already be some blankets laid out and pink picnic baskets with a variety of food—many of which have been prepared in extra cute ways like rice balls shaped like cats. You probably think this was mostly Euphie's doing, but it was mostly that boyfriend of hers, Kanji.]

"Judge me? You don't even know me!" Seriously what is happening right now? This guy has no business yelling at him. They've only met once and it was super awkward to the point where he doesn't even want to think about it. And sure he confessed a lot of private stuff then which for the record he is super regretting right now but that doesn't mean Jack knows him enough to give him relationship advice or whatever the hell he's trying to do right now.

	Jack winces. Okay, he knows Kanji's a teenager and teenagers frequently feel like their parents don't know them, but it still hurts when Kanji flings it in his face like that. For a moment Kanji just gapes at him, feeling like he's just taken a hard punch to the chest. He doesn't even know what to do with that comment, just that it hurts. His dad has been dead for a couple of years - an anuyerism, fast, unexpected. He wasn't even there - now but that still really hurts. And now to have some strange say shit like that? That is a low fucking blow and he doesn't even understand why it would happen.

"Why would you say that?" Its all he can manage, not even the usual shouting that he hides pain and fear behind. Just unhappy confusion.

There's something that's not quite right here. Sure Kanji's no detective but it makes no sense for Jack to be saying any of this. Think, Kanji, think hard. Use all of your limited brain power to try and solve this. Oh! Hold up. Euphie said that thing earlier about her friend Nathan and how he thought they were dating. And they know the wardens do weird stuff right? What if they're making some people believe things that aren't true? Not him, obviously, but some people. Is that it?

"You're my dad?" Very slow, very skeptical, working very hard to puzzle out what is going on in your brain right now Jack.

	Jack tries really hard not to roll his eyes, but it comes out anyway. "Yes!" he says rather explosively, still extremely confused about why Kanji's acting so weird about this, but also relieved that at last he seems to be coming round. "I'm your dad. 	Uhhh, mystery solved? Man, this is weird and uncomfortable and he doesn't like it and it crosses a lot of lines. But he doesn't know how to make Jack leave, especially since he's apparently crazy today, that's cool. This blows. "Uhhh. Okay?" What do you want and how can he make you leave? 	Well, frankly, it's likely to go on until Jack's satisfied that this thing with Euphie isn't just some weird rebound, trying-to-be-normal-in-denial-of-being-gay stunt of Kanji's... 	That's an easy question to answer even when he's weirded out by the conversation. The short answer would be everything but he can't help but give a longer list. "She's really kind. She always sees the best in people, you know? She always makes me smile when we're together. She's cute and sweet and she's got pink hair." The hair is cute. He likes it. 	Jack smiles fondly, his affection both for Euphie as seen through Kanji's eyes and for his son. It's evident he really cares for this girl. He's a teenage boy and she's got boobs, Jack, how do you think it makes him feel? He is all about that situation. But, again, he's a teenage boy and that means he doesn't always know how to express himself. He hasn't told her he loves her yet since that's a really big deal but it also means he's not about to tell a stranger he loves her, either. So he just goes pink and smiles a little sheepishly. "Good. She makes me feel really good."

	Well, until recently, Jack really had got the impression that Kanji didn't go for boobs. Hence the confusion. However, the extremely endearing blush that spreads over his cheeks is pretty convincing. Jack can't help but smile, happy to see his son happy. "Good," he says warmly. "Uh, yeah. Are we done here?" Because this is weird and he doesn't like it. And today he does like it and her but if Jack were to call him tomorrow he'll have a very good chance at getting a real conversation out of him while he tries to come to terms with how he feels today compared to every other day of the year. Its hard to get him to open up at the best of times, but tomorrow at the worst of times? That should be different.

Okay, so that's all he gets, is it?

"What, can't be bothered to spend any more time with your old dad than you absolutely have to?" he asks dryly, and then realises, loosening up a little: "Though I guess you're looking forward to time with your girlfriend." He grins, starting to shift. "Far be it for me to get between the two of you! Not when she's making you so happy!"

But yeah, he might well be giving Kanji a call tomorrow, when all's done and dusted.
