Day 331 (strange relations) / Open Video / Picnic Mingle
[Have Euphie's smiling face on the screen. Kanji and I would like to invite you all to a picnic today! Of course we want to see all our family there, but friends and soon-to-be friends too. [That means strangers.]

You don't have to worry about bringing anything, but if you'd like to bring something extra to share or a game that would be fun or even just an extra blanket just in case that would always be welcome.

We'll be in Trois Park near the koi pond and fountain at noon today.

[There will already be some blankets laid out and pink picnic baskets with a variety of food—many of which have been prepared in extra cute ways like rice balls shaped like cats. You probably think this was mostly Euphie's doing, but it was mostly that boyfriend of hers, Kanji.]

(OOC: Mingle! Tag yourself in or hit up Euphie on video here or at the picnic here. Want to be a relation of Euphie's? Just let me know!)

[Good news, everyone! Kanji likes a girl today! Almost as much as he likes making adorable picnic things. He's camped out on a blanket and still putting the finishing touches on a picnic basket for him and Ruphie and keeps glancing nervously up to keep track of her so she doesn't see it before he's finished. Interrupt him if you like, especially if you are his awesome girlfriend that he totally has today.]

The picnic is certainly an impressive effort, and Jack feels proud of his son as he heads along to the Trois Park a few minutes before noon, just in case Kanji's panicking or anything. Fortunately, panicking doesn't seem to be a thing, but he does detect the odd hint of nerves beneath those glances Kanji keeps darting towards Euphie and he's glad he's here to help smooth things along. Whatever the hell there is that needs to be smoothed. He's a little confused. The last he was aware, Kanji was into boys, even if he was having trouble admitting it, so he's not sure how his obvious interest in Euphie today fits into that.

He flops down onto Kanji's blanket with the basket between them, an easy grin on his lips. "Anything your old dad can help with?" he asks casually, with a gesture that includes the basket but could also be taken to include anything else Kanji might want help with.

Kanji has to scramble to save his intricately frosted bunny cupcakes from the flopping, frantically scooping them out of Jack's way and into his picnic basket for protection. At the same time he's got to deal with that question, a question that can only be answered with a puzzled head scratch, blank stare and resounding, "Huh?"

Okay, well, fair enough, the kid did look kind of distracted.

He rolls slightly to face Kanji and say more slowly, taking care to enunciate clearly, "Anything I can help with?"

"Oh, uh," He still looks confused but it's fading. Maybe he misheard the guy or something. "No, it's good. I'm just makin' bunnie cupcakes." Totally normal day in Kanji land over here, everything is under control. Also no offense but you probably aren't up to his cupcake frosting standards.

No, Jack really isn't. He's learned a lot of skills in his long life, but cake-decorating is not one of them. Or anything-decorating, really. He has big hands. Not good for delicate work. Or at least, not that kind.

"They look fantastic," he says proudly, leaning over to look but being careful not to touch. "You're so good at this sort of thing." He grins. "I guess you must get that from your mother!"

That comment is weird as fuck and gets a look that says as much. He's starting to get a little creeped out here and shows it by protectively putting away his cupcakes, as if he doesn't trust Jack not to mess with them or do something weird. "Uhh, I guess?"

He catches that look, and the possessive packing of the cupcakes, and he backs off a little in order to study Kanji, confused.

"What's up? You seem a bit tense? Nervous about this thing with Euphie?"

"What? No, you just keep sayin' weird stuff. Anyway why would I be nervous? She's my girlfriend, right?" Yeah he gets nervous around people he likes but she knows that and she's okay with it and he likes that about her.

"Don't yell at me, Kanji," Jack says sternly, heat rising in his own voice too. He knows he's not the best father in the world, but he's damned if he's going to let Kanji get away with shouting at him when he's just showing a bit of fatherly concern.

"You know I'd never judge you for your choices. I just want to make sure you know what you're doing, that's all."

"Judge me? You don't even know me!" Seriously what is happening right now? This guy has no business yelling at him. They've only met once and it was super awkward to the point where he doesn't even want to think about it. And sure he confessed a lot of private stuff then which for the record he is super regretting right now but that doesn't mean Jack knows him enough to give him relationship advice or whatever the hell he's trying to do right now.

[After speaking with his sister, Euphie, over her relationship with Kanji and having been asked not to tease him too much, Conrad will be hovering over the younger lad with keen interest.]

If you'd like, I can help stand guard until you are done with your current project. [And with a polite smile.] That gift is intended for Euphie, isn't it?

[Way to make him self-conscious. He looks down awkwardly at the bear cupcake he's decorating, blushing furiously.]

Umm, yeah. It is. Do you think she'll like it?

[He'll consider the reaction a mission accomplished on his part because he didn't promise he wouldn't lightly tease the younger man. Watch as he leans down, making it seem as though he was talking to Kanji while keeping a look out for Euphie.]

Of course. As long as the gift is created from the bottom of your heart, she will be thrill with anything you give her.

[Especially when the cupcake looked so adorable.]

[It's not that hard to fluster him, especially if you're his sister's big brother. He shyly offers one of his extra cupcakes.]

Thanks man, that's good advice. I really want her to like it.

[He'll gratefully accept the extra cupcake with a nod of his head.]

Don't worry. You have my vote of confidence over the matter. A man who knows how to cook or bake are qualities anyone can greatly appreciate in a partner.

[Taking a bite out of the cupcake, he will definitely ask.] Did you bake these yourself?

Thanks. [He's still blushing but he smiles anyway, looking happy to have made a good impression.]

Yeah. I did it this morning while she was planning the picnic. I wanted it to be a surprise, you know? To make her happy.

And it's very well done. Euphie will not only appreciate your efforts, but absolutely love it as well.

[His gaze will turn to Euphie once more.]

How do you plan on presenting her gift to her?

There is no harm in simply giving them to her.

[However, he will point out.]

But it might be a good idea to make the occasion much more private. You're giving her one of many gifts. The first few should always be given to her away from prying eyes. Take her somewhere nice and quiet before opening your heart to her, it'll make a beautiful memory by doing so than having other people involved.

[He looks like he's taking serious mental notes on this. Because he wants this to be special and he's not good at romance. He wants to make everything perfect for her.] So maybe like a picnic blanket over there? Would that be a good idea?
