250 - Fear Itself Mingle
[ Today is a day where most would be at risk of oversleeping. The dome lies dark like in the dead of night. The sun hasn’t risen today, streetlights casting a dull yellow glow and occasionally flickering out into nothing, only to spark back to life a moment later. There is no electric flicker from the kiosk. The Wardens are still. The wardens are silent.

The dome isn’t silent. There is a rustling of leaves, a snapping of twigs. Claws, scraping against concrete. The inhuman screech of an animal in peril, an animal hunting, an animal hunted. A screech that promises sharp claws and sharper teeth and blood.

The dome isn’t still either. There is something moving, thick as a shadow, tangible as a chill down your spine. Something that doesn’t belong here, something that snuck in when no one was looking. A boogeyman under the bed. A ghost in the closet. A will o’ the wisp, blinking in and out of existence under the flickering streetlights. Whatever it is it’s moving, leaving a trail of cold, dead fear wherever it passes. Something dark. A shadow so pitch black that it blots out the very lights in your heart, dragging your fears out screaming and kicking, reducing even the strongest, toughest man to a blubbering baby.

Perhaps best to stay in bed today, Marina. ]

'Course. [ Nonchalantly, like his swagger. ] It's been bloody dull around here... about time something fun happened.

Fun, [he echoes, rather flatly. Not with the sort of disbelief you might expect, but hey, the man's covered in blood; shock is a thing, right?] I kind of liked Jurassic Park better when it stayed on the big screen.

But I guess anyone who hasn't gotten eaten yet shouldn't complain, right?

[Seriously, though, the face thing is bugging him a bit. He'd ask about it but then he'd have to admit to seeing it and if he's not really seeing it, that would be awkward. He's never really suffered from hallucinations-- unless this whole Asylum counts-- but there's a first for everything.]

[ He grins — toothily — feral yellow eyes locked on the man. With all this commotion... who would know? Could be a raptor. Probably was. ]

Well... that can be arranged, you know. Not just dinosaurs that get hungry.

[One thing Brian has always had a knack for is spotting predators... but Spike doesn't really make it difficult. He's well aware that this is a dangerous situation; he isn't frightened, simply conscious of the danger, alert to his surroundings. It's a relief, since he's spent so much of the day trying to avoid aimless terror.]

I think I'll pass,

[he says flatly. He's got enough to deal with right now, he'd prefer not to fight, given a choice.

But he's not backing down, either.]

You sure about that? It'll be fun. [ He takes a swaggering step closer, muscles tingling with anticipation. A spot of intimidation always made the meal that much sweeter. ]

[If he's hoping for a chase-- and in his place, Brian thinks, he would be, so it's a safe enough bet-- he isn't going to get one. Not so much as a shudder.]

Today's so much fun already. [He shifts his weight very slightly; readiness, not nerves.] I'm not in the mood for any more excitement.

[Test him if you like, Spike. He's not going to make it easy.]

[ It makes him think of Buffy and that's not always a good thing, even less so now when she's not around to knock about. A fight is almost as good as a meal and he's been itching for both lately. ]

No such thing as too much fun. Who knows when we'll get this opportunity again?

[If that's the way it's going to be, that's the way it's going to be. A tight smile, fleeting and obviously disingenuous, twists his lips.]

Who knows,

[he agrees, waiting for the vampire to make the first move. He's not much of one for brawling-- he'd rather have a sure kill, a calm studio for his work, something that will satisfy his compulsion-- but it's obvious from his stance that this isn't his first knife fight.]

[ That's about all the invitation he needs, hand balled into a fist and pulled back to swing with a maniacal grin on his face. Always did like a good rumble, especially one that did not exclude dinner at the end. ]

[He's waiting for it, his expression oddly calm. Brian throws his weight to one side to dodge, and closer to slash at the oncoming arm. It's not even an attempt at serious injury, for now-- only an attempt to make himself annoying enough to be a bit less appetizing.]

[ It's been a while since he had a good fight. Too long, if you ask him and without Sam to play-fight with and Buffy to real-fight with, he's grown restless. Eager to feel something, whiteknuckled fists against ribs whether it's his own or his opponents — and he does enjoy being hit as much as he enjoys the hitting. It's part of the game. There's no fun in an easy and simple win.

So although his vampiric strength and reflexes would allow him to do better he holds back for now, letting the slash barely pass by its target. Weapons always makes it that much more dangerous, but it'd take a damn good hit to stake him. He turns, aiming another wide punch. ]

You can do better than that, can't you?

[He lets that one connect, shifting so it will glance off his shoulder, though when it hits it's harder than he was hoping. Enough to shake an otherwise smooth moment, as he follows through on the turn for better reach. Going high would be a better way to end this quickly, but it leaves him too open. Instead he thrusts, hard, at Spike's stomach.]

[ Later, he may claim that he let it land to be a good sport, to keep some fun in it, but truth be told he didn't see it coming. Not enough to dodge at least and so the knife sinks into his gut solidly. ]

Hngrh-! Sonnova-! [ He snarls, pained and feral, lashing out for the others arm so he can wrench the knife out of himself. ]

[That's a satisfying blow, not that he shows it. This isn't about fun for Brian. Though, if he's honest, it is good to have a little bit of release, a moment of not keeping up appearances. Pretending becomes tiresome swiftly.

If he loses the knife, he doesn't have much going for him. Rather than pulling, he tries to twist his arms out of Spike's grasp. (If that means twisting the knife, too, so be it.)]

[ He may be dead and so used to pain that his threshold has grown inhumanly high, but that doesn't mean he doesn't feel anything at all. The twisting forces out a few more bitten back grunts but he refuses to succumb, instead taking the opportunity of closeness to swing another blow at the others head. ]

[In so close, he can't do much to avoid that. Fortunately (or not,) he doesn't have enough space to lose his balance.

He kicks, hard, at Spike's ankle.]

[ This is starting to piss him off and the problem with getting pissed off is that it's so easy to become sloppy and reckless, judgment clouded effectively by emotion. The kick forces a roar out of him and he pushes back at the other with some force, wanting to gain some space so he can regain his footing. ]

[Space is one thing Brian's happy to give, particularly since he's kept his weapon. The force of the shove makes him stumble back, too off-balance to look for an opportunity to use his knife. Possibly he should run; but running asks for chasing. He hasn't got much in the way of high ground, he won't sacrifice it so easily.

He finds his balance and waits, again, knife at the ready. And, okay, maybe now he's got the trace of a smile. He likes to get a reaction.]

Having fun yet?

Not as much as I'm going to have when I rip your bloody throat out. [ But he's grinning, enjoying the chance for a proper brawl — even if he's the only one bleeding right now. That should change, really.

Still solidly stuck in gameface Spike lunges again, fainting a wide punch for the others face while his other fist lies in wait to sink into his stomach, should the tactic work. ]

[He's half expecting the feint but dodges the wrong way, doubling as Spike's fist strikes his gut. Sloppy, that. He loses his breath in an abrupt huff, slashing wildly (but rather weakly) in the other's direction to cover his moment of vulnerability.]

[ With the other doubled over, Spike reaches with his free hand to nab him by the collar in an effort to hold him up close and still. Nothing like getting in someone's face with all those sharp fangs to get the message home. ]

[Despite all evidence to the contrary, Brian can't shake the assumption that the whole vampire thing is bullshit. It's hard to be a skeptic under these circumstances, though. He reacts automatically, swinging his fist in return, aiming for anything he can reach. Preferably the face.

He's not afraid; anyone would be, but that's never been the way his mind works. The clarity isn't worth much, but it's kept him alive so far.]

[ If Spike knew that the other wasn't so sure about his actual existence, there would be a whole lot more laughter in his face in place of fangs. The fangs would surely come later, but with how open the vampires of this place are and the Blood Shack being right there, non-believers always come across as a bit daft to him.

The punches hit, but doesn't do too much. He's used to getting punched in the face and although the way they make his head jerk to the side keeps him from actually biting, it doesn't really deter him from his goal of nom. ]

[That people would like to believe they are vampires isn't so hard to swallow; he's at least considering the possibility that this is legitimate. On the other hand, the likeliest possibility is that none of this is real, and rather than subscribing to a slightly alternate sort of sanity he's gone off the proverbial deep end.

Either way, he doesn't want to find out like this. He twists and pulls, trying to loosen that grasp-- he'd wriggle out of his shirt if he had more space to do it in-- stabbing blindly at Spike's side as he does. For good measure he manages to stomp his heel soundly on the vampire's foot. Breaking a couple of toes would please him inordinately.]

[ It's only fun when they fight back for so long and Brian has effectively stepped over the line of "a chase" and straight into "a bloody nuisance". Spike grunts against the stabs, eventually becoming fed up enough to give up on his prey — too much work. The bloke isn't even a young cheerleader.

With another shove, he increases the distance between them. ]
You sure took the fun out of this game quickly.
