250 - Fear Itself Mingle
[ Today is a day where most would be at risk of oversleeping.The dome lies dark like in the dead of night. The sun hasn’t risen today, streetlights casting a dull yellow glow and occasionally flickering out into nothing, only to spark back to life a moment later. There is no electric flicker from the kiosk. The Wardens are still. The wardens are silent.

The dome isn’t silent. There is a rustling of leaves, a snapping of twigs. Claws, scraping against concrete. The inhuman screech of an animal in peril, an animal hunting, an animal hunted. A screech that promises sharp claws and sharper teeth and blood.

The dome isn’t still either. There is something moving, thick as a shadow, tangible as a chill down your spine. Something that doesn’t belong here, something that snuck in when no one was looking. A boogeyman under the bed. A ghost in the closet. A will o’ the wisp, blinking in and out of existence under the flickering streetlights. Whatever it is it’s moving, leaving a trail of cold, dead fear wherever it passes. Something dark. A shadow so pitch black that it blots out the very lights in your heart, dragging your fears out screaming and kicking, reducing even the strongest, toughest man to a blubbering baby.

Perhaps best to stay in bed today, Marina. ]

[ He hesitates for a moment before grabbing the pitchfork. Pointy damage is better than blunt force trauma — his previous scuffles with these overgrown geckos proved that much to be true. Maybe it was a good thing that Helix forced bloodshed on his hands. Maybe all this is just preparation for bigger and nastier things.

Keeping low he breaks into a steady run, pulling away from Mal and the horse in a wide circle. When he deems the distance to be safe enough, he gives a loud whistle in the general direction of the raptor. ]

Hey! Big ugly! Over here!

[Mal wonders if it's a good idea to let Aiden go on his own, but Serenity's getting tired and the kid had already dispatched at least one with a baseball bat. He guided the horse back to the barn, thankfully without mishap and locked her up in a stall.]

I'll be back soon. Jus' gotta take care of business.

[He grabbed the other pitchfork, sadly smaller than the previous one, and ran out to find Aiden.]

[ This isn't the first time Aidan's fighting raptors. It wasn't that long ago that Helix goaded him into it back in Sector 6 and there he didn't even have a baseball bat at his disposal — of course, that was just the one and he was damn lucky to get out of it with nothing but a sprained wrist. It's different now. Not as many trees to dodge around or hide in and that also means that the raptors can travel faster, stay in a group.

By the time Mal comes back, Aidan isn't so cocky any more. Oh no, he's too busy running for his life to manage that, one arm curled across his chest. ]

	[Well this isn't helpful. Mal sees Aidan quite quickly and the raptors coming behind him. He takes quick stock of the situation and grabs Aidan by the collar of the shirt as he starts running for the rec center. If they can get in the gym, maybe they can find something there. Almost, yeah... [ Drawing a few deep breaths to steady his breathing and then he swallows in a futile attempt to get the metallic taste out of his mouth. Oh wow. That was close. ]

Sorry 'f I scared ya. [ Straightening out some, he turns his attention towards the gash on his upper arm. Not particularly deep but still bleeding enough to slowly color the torn fabric of his shirt a deep crimson. ]

Soap? I, uh... I ain't too sure soap's a good idea. [ Got some field medic experience himself. ] Figured I'd just wash it out with water for now, get some alcohol to clean it properly once this mess is over. Ain't gonna have much of a chance to get infected... even if it does, there's a hospital right here.

Ain't like it's gonna kill me. [ Not here. Back home? Oh yeah. Very possible. ]
